April 20 Chinese Language Day Chinese is one of the six official working languages of the United Nations(UN). Chinese Language Day has been celebrated since 2010. The UN holds colorful activities on this day. This helps spread Chinese. In a school, you may hear a student saying, “I’m quite interested in Chinese,” but you are not in China. You are in a foreign country. Like the student, many foreigners are learning Chinese. But it’s not easy. People have to memorize about 6,000 Chinese characters before they can do basic(基础的) reading and writing. So, for foreigners, it’s hard to memorize them. However, Chinese is more popular around the world today. The long history and colorful culture of China attract(吸引) many foreigners to learn Chinese. With the rapid development, China is staying ahead in many fields and is playing its role in the world. Chinese is becoming a global(全球的) language and its popularity has risen around the world. Many countries set up Chinese courses in their schools. For example, in the UK, schools encourage their students to study Chinese. The increase in popularity of Chinese has been surprising. Just like the foreigners do, we also learn foreign languages. Different languages carry different cultures. So exchanges are necessary. By learning a foreign language, we can have a useful tool of communication. More importantly, it will help us experience a new culture.
1.When is Chinese Language Day
2.How does the UN celebrate Chinese Language Day
3.Why is it difficult for foreigners to learn Chinese
4.Which country encourages students to study Chinese according to the passage
5.What are the advantages(优点) of learning a foreign language

To be successful at school matters a lot for students. However, some students have trouble in getting good grades. Are you one of them If so, here are some tips for you.
Manage your time in a wise way.
Make sure you finish the work that needs to be done in time. Leaving it till the next morning can make things chaotic(混乱的). When I was a student at River School, my English teacher Mr. Brown never allowed us to leave our homework till the next morning.
Be successful in the classroom.
This means many e to class every day on time. Listen to your teachers carefully in class and take part in class activities actively. If you have any questions, be sure to ask your teachers for help.
Take good notes.
While you are taking notes, you need to learn to recognize(辨别)important information.
For example, if the teacher has taken the time to repeat something, or write it on the blackboard, it will probably be important later, perhaps on a test of some kind. However, you don’t need to write down everything the teacher says.
7.What’s the result of leaving the work till the next morning
8.Who was Tony’s English teacher

Here are some tips on listening. We hope they can help you in one way or other.
Relax yourself.
Before you start to listen to something, you need to relax. Don’t get nervous or excited.
Listen carefully to the first sentence.
The first sentence tells you a lot about the whole passage. For example, if at the very beginning you hear “many shops in many parts of China have decided to take all kinds of Japanese goods (商品) off their shelves, but some people say it’s not a good idea. Our reporter says...”, you will know what you are hearing is a piece of news, not a children’s story, or a science report.
Think when you are listening.
When you are listening, try to do some thinking. For example, you can think about the following questions: What happened When, where and how What was the result and what does the speaker want to tell us You may understand the passage better this way.
Pay attention to important facts.
It’s important for you to remember some important facts. For example, if the passage is a science report, you should try to remember its findings and how scientists got their results.
Don’t think about one or two words for too long.
You may hear some words that you don’t know, but don’t spend too much time on them. Very often, you’ll find out what they mean later when you go on with the listening. But you can write down some words of sentences that you think are important, and maybe you can use them when you’re answering the questions.
根据短文内容回答下列问题。
13.What do you need to do before you start to do listening
14.Why do you have to listen carefully to the first sentence
15.When should you try to do some thinking
16.What is important for you while listening
17.What’s the passage about

Have you ever heard of the cars without drivers Don’t be too surprised if you see a car like this going down the road in Beijing these days. It might be one of Baidu company’s driverless cars. Last month, Baidu company began to test its driverless cars on open roads in Beijing. Let’s learn something about the driverless cars. Driverless cars began to be developed in 2010. Since then, companies like Tesla, Uber and Baidu have been working to produce and test their own driverless cars. Driverless cars are safer than common cars. And they are more environmental-friendly than common cars. They are more convenient and allow disabled or blind people to get around more easily. But driverless cars have their own problems as well. In one test, researchers pointed a laser pointer at the car’s sensors(传感器) while it was moving. The car mistakenly thought that the laser beam(激光束) was in its way and slowed down or changed its direction. The software(软件) that is used to direct the cars may not be perfect enough. That’s because sometimes it may break down. When we use our computers or smart phones, they sometimes don’t work without any reason. And if this happened while driving, the results could be terrible. Improving the software could be the best way to deal with this problem.

I am very sorry to hear that you have some trouble in learning Chinese. But it doesn’t matter. I think I can help you.
First, it’s difficult for you to understand what the teachers say in class. In my opinion, it’s a good idea to tell your teachers about that so that they can speak more slowly. And I think you should talk more often with your classmates in Chinese after class. That can help a lot. What’s more, you can improve your listening by watching news reports on TV.
In my view, the best way to learn Chinese is by using it. It’s one of the secrets of becoming a successful Chinese learner. Try to use Chinese as often as possible.

Growing Up with Good Books
Reading is very important. We can get knowledge through reading. It can not only open our minds, but also make us cleverer and happier. Reading can improve our study. The more we read, the more we will learn. And our future will become brighter.
However, some students spend much time in listening to music, watching TV or going online to play games. It takes much of their spare time. So I would like to suggest that everyone should read more books, especially classical books.
Let’s start reading now. And let it become a part of our life.
