My grandmother left me almost 18 years ago but I still miss her every day.She was such an important part of my life.My mom, dad, brothers and I lived in her old house for most of my childhood. When I close my eyes and open my heart, that is how I remember her.I can still see her in her flower print, cotton dress.I can hear her high voice say "HELLO" as I opened the door after school, while her arms opened to give me a big hug and kiss.I can even remember how she smelled. When she hugged me I could feel the love and joy coming from her heart into mine.
I thought I knew everything about my "Nana" but amazingly, I am still learning more about her even today.Just yesterday an old family friend stopped to talk to me at the post office. She told me what happened once she visited my Nana when I was still a little boy. They were sitting around the dining room table talking and our friend noticed the lovely earrings my Nana was wearing. She told Nana how much she liked them and asked if she could leave them to her in her will(遗嘱).Without a second thought,my sweet Nana took them off and gave them to her on the spot.
I decided then that I want to regard Nana as my role model.Be nice and care more about people and less about things.

五、短文填空
One of my high school classmates came into my mind again. He was a short and thin boy with a common look, but you may not believe that being his deskmate was most girls' dream in our class. We took turns to ask him for help with math or physics questions. Whenever we asked him for help, he 1 doing his homework and helped us first. Maybe you think he wasted much time and couldn't enter a good university, but you are 2 . He won in the College Entrance Exam( 高考)and entered Tsinghua University.
Why did he do so well only by explaining the knowledge to us I didn't know the reason 3 I became a teacher and read a book about learning skills. The skill the boy used is actually called Retrieval Practice(检索练习),a practice of retrieving(取回)information from memory.
Many of you think of "studying" as simply reading notes over and over again. Simply reading notes doesn't help you retrieve knowledge from your memory. 4 , it gives you an incorrect message that you really know what you' re learned well. That’s why you fail the exam though you've read your notes many times.
What should you do when you use Retrieval Practice 5 knowledge to people around you like the boy is one way, and there are another two ways to follow. If you have some exercises, make sure to do them 6 looking at your notes. Remember, having the notes in front of you doesn't help you retrieve knowledge. What's more, you can just take out a piece of paper and write down everything you know on a topic. By doing so, you're retrieving knowledge from your memory almost like you’re testing 7 .
Next time you want to prepare for a test, do not spend too much time reading your notes. Try using Retrieval Practice, and maybe you will also become the 8 of the coming Senior High School Entrance Exam.
1. 2. 3. 4. .
5. 6. 7. 8. .
