Activity 1: Look and answer
0,000 people reading my blog! b I love to photograph the rising sun, …
a Knowing where the ball would go wasn’t easy.
b Shooting with great accuracy was another thing he learnt.
1 What are the subjects in sentences (a) and (b)
“Knowing where the ball would go” is the subject in sentence (a);
“Shooting with great accuracy” is the subject in sentence (b).
Look at the sentences from the reading passage and answer the question.
Activity 1: Look and answer
Compare them with the following sentences and answer the questions.
0,000 people reading my blog! b I love to photograph the rising sun, …
c Stephen Curry knew where the ball would go. It wasn’t easy.
d Stephen Curry shot with great accuracy. It was another thing he learnt.
2 What does “it” refer to in sentences (c) and (d)
3 Why does the author choose to use sentences (a) and (b) in the reading passage
In sentence (c) “it” refers to “knew where the ball would go”;
In sentence (d) “it” refers to “shot with great accuracy”.
Considering the genre of the reading passage — a news report, it requires more concise and formal language. So the author chooses to use sentences (a) and (b) in the reading passage, which are suitable for a news report.

Swimming is a good sport in summer.
It is no good spending time on the Internet.
1) It’s no good doing sth. 2) It’s no use doing sth. 3) It’s a waste of time doing sth.
Their coming to help was a great encouragement to us.
His working hard all the time has improved his grades a lot.
Tom’s forgetting the meeting made the manager unhappy.
To make up for lost time is not possible.
1) It+is+名词+to do
It’s our duty to take good care of the old.
2) It takes sb+some time+to do
How long did it take you to finish the work
3) It+系动词+形容词+for sb+to do
It is difficult for us to finish writing the composition in a quarter of an hour.
4) It+系动词+形容词+of sb. to do
It is stupid of you to write down everything (that) the teacher says.
1) Swimming in this river is a great pleasure.
2) To swim in the river tomorrow makes him excited.
To see is to believe. = Seeing is believing.

Think about a sporting moment you have experienced and complete the table.
Write a passage
I once ran the first leg of 4x100-metre relay at our annual sports tournament. It was exciting and unforgettable.
Standing on the starting line, waiting for the starting gun, I could almost hear my own heart beating. Then the gun sounded and I almost had blocked out everything else. To this day, I don’t remember how I finished my leg of the race. Only when I passed the baton to the second runner did I hear the wild cheering and shouting. The whole race was over in just an instant. The crowd rose to their feet and their cheering became even louder. Our team had won the race, and the four of us hugged each other tight for quite a while. I felt really happy.
With the spirit in mind, you can make it !
Thank you ~~
