I love my job in Paris. I work at the Eiffel Tower. Every day, I lead guests and visitors to take the elevator to viewing platforms (观景台). There, I will point out the attractions and help people find the best places for taking photos.
Millions of visitors come to Paris every year from all around the world. Most visitors stay here for three or four days. As for me, I visited Paris 35 years ago — and never left. At the time, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. But I found my job in this city.
I suffered from Asperger syndrome (阿斯伯格综合征) when I was six years old. I was shy and loved to read and memorize facts. One of the biggest problems I faced was communicating with others. I couldn’t understand what others were talking about.
I arrived in Paris when I was in my 20s. I happened to get a job here. At first, I had a problem with change in everyday life, especially when communicating with people. But I like to memorize facts, and that really helps in my job because people love to learn all of the interesting things about Paris.
I was afraid to talk with people before. Now, I’ve discovered that I talk a lot! I love coming to work. Every day when I come to work, I feel it’s time for me to provide the best service for visitors. I love to learn something new because I can’t wait to share the information with others. I don’t really know what the future holds for me, as tomorrow is not promised to anyone, but I will continue to work here.
24. What is the author’s job in Paris
A. A cameraman. B. A teacher. C. A doctor. D. A guide.
25. What do people with Asperger syndrome have problems in
A. Social skills. B. Writing skills. C. Reading skills. D. Management skills.
26. What can we learn about the author from the last paragraph
A. He has a gift for talking. B. He lives a busy life every day.
C. He enjoys his job very much now. D. He is worried about the future of his job.

A. I Took a Special Trip in Paris. B. I Found My Dream Job in Paris.
C. I Found My Biggest Advantages. D. I Suffered from Asperger Syndrome.

A category of bats, called fruit bats, like fruit that is rich in sugar. Wei Gordon, a biologist at Menlo College, wonders whether these fruit bats might hold information on treating diabetes (糖尿病) in people, because when fruit bats eat lots of fruit, it raises their blood sugar, but within half an hour, the bats can pretty much bring their sugar levels back to where they started. These bats control sugar like it was nothing, which isn’t the case for humans, who have to be careful about how much sugar they consume (吃,喝,消耗) to avoid diseases like diabetes.
Gordon wants to know how these bats control their sugar without health problems. She thinks the answer may lie, at least in part, in all the flying the bats do. “When you exercise,” says Gordon, “you use more energy.” So maybe these bats don’t take in all the sugar to store it away in their bodies. Rather, they keep it flowing in their bloodstream to power their flight to their next fruit meal. In that way, energy is always available.
To further study how fruit bats manage their sugar, Gordon set out to compare the cells and genes (基因) of fruit bats with those of the bats that eat insects. “And what was really exciting is that in fruit bats,” she says, “we did see a lot more cells that are responsible for maintaining (维持) their blood sugar.” Plus, the fruit bats had genetic differences that seemed to allow them to act quickly to control the blood sugar flowing through their bloodstream.
Over the last two decades, a combination of factors, including a decrease in exercise and changes in our diets, have caused diabetes to increase worldwide. “Maybe the study on fruit bats can teach us some things about how to be healthier in our lives,” explains Gordon, “including-perhaps-how to treat or even prevent the development of obesity and diabetes. There’s a lot that we can learn from how they’ve come to survive on the sugary diet.”
28. What made Wei Gordon interested in studying fruit bats
A. Their preference for long flight. B. Their habit of eating rare fruit.
C. Their ability to manage blood sugar. D. Their skill in avoiding serious diseases.
29. What is indicated about fruit bats’ energy strategy according to Gordon
A. They eat many different kinds of food. B. They have long breaks between meals.
C. They store most of their sugar intake. D. They balance intake with consumption.
30. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about
A. Comparison of different bat diets. B. Biologic advantages of fruit bats.
C. Cells’ function in sugar storage. D. Genetic variety of fruit bats.
31. What can be inferred about fruit bats from the last paragraph
A. They offer useful health knowledge. B. They are healthier than expected.
C. They are a danger to food safety. D. They prefer food similar to humans.
D
It’s easy to keep your aging brain as quick as it was in college. Use a website full of brain games or download the right apps, and within 20 minutes you’ll be doing your part to sharpen your memory and slow the decline of your mental functions. At least that’s what the companies behind this booming industry would have you believe. But is it true
Concrete proof about the benefits of brain games is hard to come by, experts say, when it comes to measurably improving aspects of mental fitness, like having a good memory. “People would really love to believe they could do something like this and make their brain better, but there’s just no solid evidence,” says Randall W. Engle, a primary investigator at the Attention & Working Memory Lab at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
That’s not to say brain games are without benefits. Experts say these kinds of mental exercises can change your brain. The brain changes with just about everything you do, including mental training exercises. But numerous studies have shown that brain games lack what researchers call “transfer”. In other words, repeating a game over and over again teaches you how to play the game and get better at it but your brain aging won’t necessarily come to a stop.
“It’s like, you walk through fresh snow, and you leave a trace. If you walk the same route again, the trace gets deeper and deeper,” says Ursula Staudinger, director of the Butler Columbia Aging Center at Columbia University. The fact that structural changes occur does not imply that in general this brain has become more capable. It has become more capable of doing exactly the tasks it was practicing.
32. What does the writer intend to do in the first paragraph
A. To introduce a new theory. B. To promote a new app.
C. To question an idea. D. To correct a mistake.
33. What does Engle think of the functions of brain games
A. Their effects still need proving. B. They have little practical effects.
C. They really make some difference. D. They are bound to benefit brain health.
34. The underlined word in paragraph 3 most probably refers to “the ability to ________”.
A. stop the brain aging B. keep the brain functioning
C. speed up the brain aging D. improve gaming skills
35. Which can be the best title of the passage
A. Games Prevent Brain from Turning Slow B. How to Slow the Decline of Brain Functions
C. Stop Brain aging Games’ Roles Need Proving D. Brain Games A Boost to Your Mental Fitness

67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was the first day at my new school, and I couldn’t shake the nervous feeling that stayed with me as I walked through the halls. The classrooms were larger, the faces were unfamiliar, and everything felt foreign. When I finally reached my seat, I noticed that the students behind me kept giggling (咯咯笑) and whispering. A wave of discomfort washed over me, and I naturally thought the worst — that they were making fun of me.
I tried my best to brush them off, but my curiosity got the better of me. I turned around, and sitting directly behind me was a boy I didn’t know. His name, I later learned, was Sameer. His face was unreadable, but I thought he was the one making fun of me, though I couldn’t be sure. I looked around the classroom but didn’t talk to anyone. I felt like an outsider, alone in a sea of strangers.
Days went by, and I kept to myself, watching from the sidelines as friendships formed around me. My misunderstanding about Sameer grew into a quiet hate. Every time I saw him, I couldn’t help but recall those whispers and laughs from the first day, which made me keep my distance.
Then one afternoon, after the final bell rang, I headed to the bicycle stand to go home. To my disappointment, I found my bicycle’s tire (轮胎) completely flat (瘪了) . I had spent my money during the break, and there wasn’t a single rupee left in my pocket to fix the tire or take the bus. I stood there helplessly.
Just then, I noticed someone approaching out of the corner of my eye. It was Sameer. My first reaction was defensive, thinking he would laugh at me. But to my surprise, he offered me a warm smile. “Hey, what’s wrong ” he asked. I hesitated, but the sincerity in his voice encouraged me to share my problem.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
“My bike’s tire is flat, and I don’t have any money with me, ” I said.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
After we became friends, I mentioned the awkward first day, and Sameer said that it wasn’t him.

注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
“My bike’s tire is flat, and I don’t have any money with me, ” I said.

After we became friends, I mentioned the awkward first day, and Sameer said that it wasn’t him.

【答案】范文参考一:
“My bike’s tire is flat, and I don’t have any money with me,” I said. Without hesitation, Sameer took out a wallet and handed me some cash. “Here, use this to fix your tire or take a bus. Pay me back whenever you can,” he said warmly. I was shocked by his kindness, as the boy I had resented was now helping me. I thanked him and promised to return the money the next day. This act broke the ice between us.
After we became friends, I mentioned the awkward first day, and Sameer said that it wasn’t him. “The students behind me were talking about a funny video, not you. I didn’t realize it made you uncomfortable,” he explained. I apologized sincerely for misjudging him. If Sameer hadn’t helped me that day, I might have never known the truth. This experience taught me not to jump to conclusions and to appreciate the kindness in others.
范文参考二:
“My bike’s tire is flat, and I don’t have any money with me,” I said. Without a moment’s hesitation, Sameer handed thirty yuan to me. I was taken aback by his kindness. “You can pay me back whenever,” he said, as if helping me was the most natural thing in the world. I promised him I’d return the money the next day. That simple act changed everything. The boy I had disliked turned out to be the first person to offer me help when I needed it the most. From that day forward, we became good friends.
After we became friends, I mentioned the awkward first day, and Sameer said that it wasn’t him. “The kids sitting behind me were the ones fooling around, but I didn’t know it made you feel uncomfortable,” he added. After hearing his words, I realized that he had been misunderstood all this time. I said “sorry” to him sincerely. If Sameer hadn’t approached me that day at the bicycle stand, I might have held on to that false belief. I appreciate that he taught me the value of not jumping to conclusions and the importance of kindness.
