As he lay awake, Bebeto could hear his parents discussing his sister Anna’s birthday in two days. Although they were poor, their birthdays were always joyful and the gifts were always homemade.
Bebeto remembered how Anna’s eyes lit up when she saw the new doll at a gift store. How he longed for her to have it! Then he had an idea.
The following morning, Bebeto rode his bike to the outskirts (市郊) of the town. He joined some boys picking mangoes (芒果) among some smaller trees there. The smaller trees had few mangoes left, but he gathered some by noon.

I knew how to communicate with people around me, but I found there were many more things I needed to learn. I realised this when I was taking a pottery (陶艺) class.
In class, as the teacher asked us to shape the clay (黏土) into a flower, I happily started to do it.
