Ladies and gentlemen,
Today, I’d like to introduce one of the historic sites in our city---the Zhenguo Temple.
The Zhenguo Temple sits on the central island of the Grand Canal running through the city of Gaoyou. It is the only temple towering over the river in China.
The story behind the temple is unique and attractive. It dates back to about 874AD. The emperor of Xizong in the Tang Dynasty built it in honor of his brother, who was so unattached to the world that he practiced Buddhism here and then died.
Today, the Zhenguo Temple complex is centred around the Zhenguo Pagoda, which is shaped like a square. The pagoda, constructed of black bricks, is a 7-storey tower with a height of 32.8 metres. In terms of architecture, it is apparently influenced by the architectural style of the Tang Dynasty.
In 1957, the temple was listed among the key units of provincial cultural relics conservation. It reflects the history and culture of the Tang Dynasty. Besides, protecting the temple may promote local tourism and preserve its natural beauty.
It’s our responsibility to treasure and protect the historic religious site. (170words)
It was then that I realized the importance of learning a foreign language.
Discussions were centred around developments in developing countries.
I have instructed them to keep the room locked.

I would like to express my warm welcome to all of you on behalf of my school.
