Singapore: Where Rules Rule
Singapore is a small island country and it’s famous for its strict (严格的) rules. Visitors are often surprised to see many signs. They tell visitors what they mustn’t do. But these rules also mean that Singapore is a very clean and safe place. Here are some of Singapore’s most famous rules.
Don’t Litter
Singapore tries hard to keep the country clean. Everyone must throw litter in a bin, not on the ground. If someone litters, they might have to pay a fine.
Don’t Take Durians on Public Transportation
Another interesting rule in Singapore is about a fruit called durian (榴莲). Durians have a very strong smell, and many people don’t like them. Also, the smell can stay for a long time even when the durian is gone. Because of this, people must not take durians on buses or trains.
Don’t chew Gum (嚼口香糖)
In Singapore, people can’t buy or sell chewing gum. This is because chewing gum is very sticky (黏的) when people throw it on the ground. To stop this problem, Singapore decided to make a new law that said people mustn’t chew gum in 1992.
Cross the Road Safely
If you visit Singapore, be careful where you cross the road. Look for a pedestrian crossing—a safe place to cross. If you cross the road in any other place, you will get a $50 fine.
All in all, Singapore’s rules make it a clean and safe place. When everyone follows the rules, it makes the country a better place for everyone. Maybe Singapore can be a good example for other places around the world.

7.What’s the main reason (原因) that people mustn’t take durians on public transport
8.When did Singapore decide to make a law against chewing gum
9.What should you do if you want to cross the road in Singapore
10.Are strict rules good for a country Why
Wherever we go, no matter how old we are, we must follow safety rules. Though many people might not see the purpose of stopping at a stop sign or driving at the speed limit, rules keep us safe.
People start to learn about the importance of rules when they are children. There are many rules that teach children how to keep themselves and their friends safe. For example, children learn safety rules when they walk in the hallway at school. They are told not to run because they may hurt themselves or run into another student. In the lunch room, children are taught to sit nicely while they are eating to avoid being choked (噎住). In the playground, they are told to use the equipment (设备) properly. For example, they should not go down the slide backward or climb up the slide when someone is going down because there can be an accident.
High school students will also be given safety rules but at a different level than younger children. High school students may be taught, for example, safety rules in the science lab. Lab safety is very important because if one thing is done wrong, it can result in a fire or a bad accident.
11.Why must we follow the safety rules
12.What is told when the children walk in the hallway at school
13.What should the children do in the playground
14.Are there safety rules for high school students
15.What safety rules do you know in your school (至少回答两条)
Family rules help children to learn what is and isn’t OK in the family. Following them can help children learn to follow rules in other places, so it’s not good for you to make rules too late.
◆As parents, when you make family rules, talk about them with your children. They will be happy.
◆Good family rules are easy for children to understand (理解). For example (例如), “Go to bed before nine o’clock!” is good. “It’s important to go to bed early!” isn’t. And good family rules tell children what to do, not what not to do. For example, “Keep your room tidy!” is good. “Don’t put your things everywhere!” isn’t.
◆People forget things easily, so it’s good to write down the rules and put them somewhere everyone can see.
◆There are times when family rules need to change (改变). For example, when your child gets older, you can make rules about helping with housework. Just like making rules, it’s good to let your children make changes to the rules with you.
Family rulesYou should (应该) make family rules 16 .
◆Children feel happy when you talk about family rules 17 them. ◆Good family rules are not 18 for children to understand and tell children what to do. ◆ 19 everyone forgets things easily, you should write down the rules and put them up. ◆When you make 20 to rules, ask your children to join you.
Nowadays, a new way is used to decide who are the top students in school. The best students are those who not only get high grades, but also follow the rules and the behavior standards (标准) for middle school students. Here are some of the new rules and standards.
Tell the truth. Have you ever copied someone else’s work on an exam If you have, don’t do it again. That’s not something an honest student should do. If you have played computer games for two hours in your room, don’t tell your parents you were doing your homework.
Learn to work together with others. It would be more fun when more people work together.
Did you fight with your teammates when your basketball team lost Only working together can make your team stronger. Be friendly to the people you are with. Try to think of others, instead of only yourself.
Be open to new ideas. Have you ever thought that people could live on the moon Perhaps you’ll discover Earth II someday. Don’t look down on new ideas. Everyone’s ideas are important. You should welcome them, because new ideas make life better for everyone.
Use the Internet carefully. Some websites on the Internet aren’t for kids, so make sure to visit the web pages that are good for you. You can visit the websites for fun or homework. Can’t you find any good websites for children

You may think students are happy in the US because they don’t have to wear school uniforms.
Girls can’t wear tank tops (吊带背心), tight pants unless they’re under dresses or skirts. The schools think these clothes affect men teachers and students. If someone breaks this rule, she has to go home and change clothes.
But many students think this rule is unfair. At the Walsh Jesuit High School in Cleveland, Ohio, girls can’t wear skinny pants. Zheng Yishi doesn’t like this rule. “We have to spend at least 10 minutes changing clothes for a P. E. class,” she said. Many students agree with her.
Some students are trying to change this. In March, a group of students at Indian Trail High School in Wisconsin fought against the rule. After a year of hard work, their school agreed to change the rule starting this fall. The school now allows leggings and yoga pants with no dresses or skirts.

At the 2024 Junior Olympics, a gymnast was disqualified for ignoring safety rules during a vault. “Rules protect athletes from injuries,” said the judge.
Olympic Spirit
In 2016, triathlete Alistair Brownlee helped his brother Jonny, who collapsed from heatstroke, across the finish line. “Winning isn’t everything,” he said.
Why Rules Matter
Safety: Helmets in cycling reduce head injuries by 70%.
Fairness: Penalties like yellow cards in soccer maintain integrity.

In order to improve students’ health and reduce students’ pressure, our country made some rules. Here are some of them.
Firstly, homework for middle school students should take no more than 90 minutes. They can finish most of the written homework at school so that after school they only spend a little time finishing the rest. Some students can still go to sleep on time even though they don’t finish their homework until bedtime. Then they will have more time to relax. Secondly, mobile phones mustn’t be brought to class because students are easily absent-minded (心不在焉的) from the lesson. Students must control the time on electronic products to protect their eyesight. They shouldn’t lose themselves in the Internet. Thirdly, students should listen carefully and go over lessons in time so that they can master the right ways of learning. Fourthly, parents should often talk to their children, pay attention to their feelings and help them develop good learning and life habits.

According to the new standard (标准) for labor education (劳动教育), students in primary and middle school will have at least one class a week to try and experience different kinds of labor and learn different life skills and even job skills.
The main reason for adding labor education is that teenagers in our country do too little housework. According to a survey, teenagers in China only spend 0.2 hour a day on chores, compared to 1.2 hours in the US.
According to the new standard, middle school students need to learn the following skills. The skills are about everyday chores, productive (生产的) labor and volunteer services.
Tidy their rooms and classrooms. Pick clothes for travel and pack a bag. Make a healthy daily eating plan. Cook three or four dishes. Fix some things like TVs or lights.
Take part in activities such as planting and fishing Take part in one or two programs like paper making or car making.
Do one or two kinds of volunteer work like helping in old people’s home.

Schoolwork is becoming more and more difficult for students now. Recently, some new rules (规定) have been made to make them have a happy school life.
These new rules are made for schools in Jiangsu province. They include some parts. For example, teachers of primary and junior high schools can’t reveal(公布) students’ test scores. They should use letters like A and B to grade students’ test results.
Because of COVID-19, students spent a long holiday at home. After the new term started, some schools might give more homework or classes to students. But the new rules ask schools not to do that. At the same time, students should have music, sports and art classes as usual.
People have different ideas about the new rules. Yin Fei, a college professor, says some students are not good at studying, but they can do well in other things. So it is good to cancel(取消) scores. But Peng Ming, a teacher in Nanjing, worries about that. He thinks scores are still important. Students need to get high scores to enter good colleges and parents care about their children’s scores. So the new rules are not so good for them.

The students mustn’t be late for school. If they are late, they can’t get into the school gate because the school gate is closed. In Japan, students are not allowed to have part-time jobs because they may not concentrate on their study.
American schools have their own rules. For example, in Morton High School, students are not allowed to choose their own clothes. They must get to school and leave school on time.
