文档简介

山东省济南市2025-2026学年高二下学期期末检测英语试题
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My Dad, Matt, lost his job and when Christmas came, we had no money at all. On Christmas Eve, Dad took me into our yard. I was five that year and I sat next to Dad and we looked up at the sky, “Pick out your favorite star,” Dad said. He told me I could have one star for keeps. He said it was my Christmas present.
“You can’t give me a star! No one owns the stars.” “That’s right, Betty. No one else owns them. You just have to claim it before anyone else does.”
I looked up to the stars and tried to figure out which was the best one. I could see hundreds, maybe thousands or even millions, hanging in the clear sky. There was one in particular, in the west above the mountains but low in the sky, which shone more brightly than all the rest. I pointed and claimed it. Dad smiled, telling me I chose Venus. It looked bigger and brighter because it was much closer than other stars. It reflected the light of the sun. “I like it anyway,” I said. “Alright,” Dad agreed. “It’s Christmas. You can have a planet if you want.”
From then on, Venus got a new name in our family, Betty’s Planet. After Christmas, Dad found another job in the mine and he worked like mad. Gradually, we could make ends meet and there were presents under the Christmas tree and cakes when it was my birthday. But deep down, no present could match Betty’s Planet.
Years later, I entered university, majoring in engineering, but I stuck to my passion for astronomy in my spare time. In my junior year, I became the first undergraduate ever to discover an asteroid (小行星) when examining images of thousands of asteroids on my computer, due to which I was given the right to name this asteroid according to the tradition of International Astronomical Union.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Paragraph 1:This time, I decided to give Dad a present.
Paragraph 2:Dad said he owed me an apology for that Christmas.

I looked up to the stars and tried to figure out which was the best one. I could see hundreds, maybe thousands or even millions, hanging in the clear sky(现在分词做伴随动作). There was one in particular, in the west above the mountains but low in the sky, which shone more brightly than all the rest. I pointed and claimed it. Dad smiled, telling me(现在分词做伴随动作) I chose Venus.
But deep down, no present could match Betty’s Planet(重要的伏笔).
Years later, I entered university, majoring in engineering(现在分词做伴随动作), but I stuck to my passion for astronomy in my spare time. Possible Versions(4)
Version 1
Paragraph 1: This time, I decided to give Dad a present. A real star, one that could forever carry our memory. Sitting alone in the lab(现在分词做伴随动作), I recalled the Christmas Eve sky and the warmth in his voice. After submitting the asteroid data to the International Astronomical Union, I was told I could name it. Without hesitation, I typed “Matt’s Star.” I imagined his face lighting up, just as mine had(省略句) when I was five. That year, he gave me Venus; now, it was my turn to return the light. I printed the certificate, framed it, and brought it home(动作串并列) during winter break. My hands trembled as I wrapped it up, realizing(现在分词短语做伴随动作)no present under our tree could ever match this moment. It wasn’t about the rock in the sky—it was about the love that once gave me a planet.
Paragraph 2: Dad said he owed me an apology for that Christmas. The life burden pressed on our family, so then and there, all he could give me was the sky. “I felt like I failed you,” he whispered, eyes fixed on the framed name(独立主格). I shook my head, placing a hand on his(现在分词做伴随动作). “You didn’t give me less,” I said, voice firm but a little emotional(独立主格), “You gave me everything—dreams, hobbies, and the stars(名词并列).” His eyes glistened, and he pulled me into a tight hug. The room was silent except for the ticking clock and the crackling fire, but I felt the weight of years melting away. That star, floating in distant space(现在分词短语做后置定语), was now our shared legacy—proof that even in darkness, love can shine(同位语从句). We sat by the window, watching Venus rise again(现在分词短语做伴随动作), just as it had all those years ago.

Version 2
Paragraph 1: This time, I decided to give Dad a present. It was not just any gift, but something that belonged to both of us. Staring at the blinking cursor, I typed “Betty’s Planet,” the very name Dad had once given to Venus, the night he brought magic to our cold yard. I smiled, remembering his grin(现在分词做伴随动作) as he pointed to the sky, pretending(现在分词做伴随动作) we could claim a planet. But this time, it was real. That night, I called him and asked him to come to campus, without revealing the reason. When he arrived, I handed him a tiny box with the name certificate inside. Watching his eyes move across the letters(现在分词短语做伴随动作), I saw confusion turn to awe, then pride. “You really did it,” he whispered. “We did,” I replied.
Paragraph 2: Dad said he owed me an apology for that Christmas. The financial status then was terrible, all he could give me was a made-up gift, a dream or a white lie(名词并列). “I didn’t know you’d remember it all these years.” “I never forgot,” I smiled. “That night, you gave me the sky when we had nothing.” His hands trembled slightly as he held the certificate tighter. “You turned a pretend planet into a real one,” he murmured, eyes misty(独立主格刻画人物). I nodded, heart full(独立主格). To me, this wasn’t just about science or astronomy. It was about turning love into legacy, and turning a little girl’s memory into a forever star. That night, we stepped outside. The sky looked just as it had years ago, but this time, a small part of it truly belonged to us.

My heart pounded as I entered “Matt 1995,” combining his name and the year(现在分词做后置定语) he gave me Venus. To me, that was when the stars first became reachable(表语从句). I enclosed the official document in a velvet folder, along with a note: For the man who gave me the sky. Returning home for winter break(现在分词短语做伴随动作), I waited till Christmas Eve. The moment mirrored our past(无灵主语句)—I led him to the yard, handed him the folder, and looked up(动作串). The cold wind carried whispers of the past, as starlight danced on our faces. This time, he was the one speechless(adj做补语).
Paragraph 2: Dad said he owed me an apology for that Christmas. He had always regretted not being able to buy me a real gift. “But I didn’t realize that moment meant so much to you.” “It did,” I said, “and it always will.” He unfolded the certificate again, then looked up at the stars. “Matt 1995,” he murmured, voice cracking(独立主格刻画人物情绪). “That’s mine.” “It always was,” I nodded. The cold breeze wrapped around us, but our silence was warm. We stood in the yard like we had years ago, side by side, hearts full(独立主格刻画人物心理). Though time had passed, the stars remained. And in one of them, a daughter’s love quietly shone.

【官方答案】
This time, I decided to give Dad a present. I named the asteroid “Matt’s Star” to honor him. When I told Dad about it on the phone, he fell silent for a while. Then he said, “Betty, that’s the best gift I’ve ever received.” I explained that the asteroid was small but special, just like the star he gave me years ago(金星很小吗?). I also told him that whenever he looked up at the sky, he could think of it as a symbol of our love, which would never fade.
Dad said he owed me an apology for that Christmas. “I was so poor then that I couldn’t give you a real present,” he said with a sigh. I told him that Betty’s Planet was the most precious gift because it taught me to find joy in simple things. I added that if there was no that Christmas, I might not have developed a love for astronomy(虚拟语气), which led me to discover the asteroid. Dad laughed and said he was proud of me, and from that day on, we often talked about “our stars” on the phone.
