It started that first day in the kindergarten choir. Just as the session ended, its director, drawing me aside, asked, “Ian, will you stay for a few moments ”
“Did I do something bad, Miss ”
“Not in the least,” she replied, touching my cheek. “I would like to hear your voice alone; it sounded so lovely.”
Then, sitting at the piano, she said, “Sing this note for me. Good, now this one; now this one, will you ” And so I did, each note high, then ever higher, until my voice cracked(破音) a little. At that point, she smiled, and said, “Well done, Ian!”
The next day, I began to sing in front of a good many teachers. Each one liked me and my voice. A few cried, telling me how much they missed their work in the opera. Soon, I attended lessons once each week. Though at times feeling tired, I learned, in order to continue to obtain the praise which made me glow inside, I had to earn it.
I edged towards age thirteen. I heard alto(中音的) notes appear more and more often. Although I knew this change would come, I ached to stop it. The admirable beauty of my voice could not remain. Thus far, the tiny change remained detectable only to myself. Still, that change, which for some years I'd known would come, was now invading. In all likelihood, my boy soprano's voice(童音) would change into a common one.
This evening I had my solo. I still couldn't get rid of the fear. Might this performance be the final time of such significance If so, what then Singing is my wellspring. However, no matter what would happen in the future, I had to cherish every moment to sing. As I sang on, it echoed(回响) through the walls, bringing a silence of suspended breath. When I had finished, thunderous applause exploded. I could begin to let my voice evolve, not as a sacrifice, but as a step towards what was surely bound to be my next stage.

In 2022, the Food and Drug Administration(FDA) announced it would let some hearing aids be sold over the counter for the first time, a move that will make the devices much more widely available and, in all likelihood, significantly cheaper.
It's a move that has been increasingly important, as hearing loss is expected to rise sharply in the coming ten years. The World Health Organization warns that by 2030, nearly 630 million people worldwide will suffer from hearing loss. By 2050, that could jump to 900 million.
The act comes with some limitations. Devices for severe(重度的) hearing loss and those intended for use on children under the age of 18 will still require a prescription(处方). But for the millions who suffer from mild to moderate(轻度到中度的) hearing loss, picking up a hearing aid could be about as easy as picking up a pair of reading glasses at the drugstore.
They won't be quite that cheap, of course, but they will likely cost less than today's hearing aids. The FDA estimated the price of those devices could be cut in half once the rule takes effect.
“I seriously believe that we will see a significant reduction in prices for consumers with mild to moderate hearing loss,” said Blake Cadwell, founder and CEO of Soundly, a site that allows people to compare and buy hearing aids online. “Expect simple products like the Bose B1 hearing aid to go on sale for $899 and more expensive devices to sell for $1,500. In the long term, we may see even lower prices.”
“Hearing loss is an important public health issue that affects the ability of millions of Americans to effectively communicate in their daily life,” said FDA Commissioner Robert M. Califf, MD.“Establishing this new rule will allow people with mild to moderate hearing loss to have convenient access to safe, effective, and affordable hearing aids from their neighborhood store or online.”
28.How does the author support his idea in paragraph 2
A.By providing data.
B.By giving examples.
C.By stating arguments.
D.By making comparisons.
29.What can be inferred about the new rule
A.It limits online sales of hearing aids.
B.It requires no prescription for all types of devices.
C.It primarily aims to discourage people from using hearing aids.
D.It directly benefits people over 18 with mild to moderate hearing loss.
30.What is Blake Cadwell's attitude toward the future price reduction of hearing aids
A.Conservative. B.Confident. C.Uncertain. D.Concerned.
31.Which can be the most suitable title for the text

Many of the technologies we use today were first presented in science fiction. In Star Trek, the folks regularly send themselves to and from distant sites. The process appears to break down people's bodies into their basic parts, and then stream them to some destination where they regroup perfectly. That type of teleportation(瞬间移动) is a long way off, scientists say. Fortunately, another type—virtual teleportation is already here.
Recently, NASA sent one of its doctors, Josef Schmid, to the International Space Station (ISS) to give an astronaut a virtual medical examination. The space agency used a technique which combines holography(全息摄影术) with extended reality (XR). The headset had an entire holographic computer inside. A motion-sensing camera used advanced sensors to get high-quality 3-D “models” of the team to be “transported”. Those data were then sent live to the ISS.
Schmid is a NASA flight doctor, taking care of astronauts and their families. But for his visit to the ISS, he never left Earth. NASA projected him and other members of the team up there as a 3-D hologram. The astronauts could see the virtual visitors and communicate with them in real time.
“We knew we were connected when the crew member wearing the headset said, ‘Whoa!’” recalls Schmid. “We were floating in front of him as if we were there.” But Schmid and the others remained at NASA's Mission Control Center in Houston. “It was like I were on the ISS,” Schmid recalls. The imagery wasn't flawless. There were pixelation(像素化) issues. And sometimes the linkup turned unreliable. But for Schmid, it felt like looking into the future.
While “on” the ISS, he showed how to do a knee medical examination on astronaut Thomas Pesquet. Then he virtually shook Thomas' hand. Schmid hopes NASA will use two motion-sensing cameras. That way, people in both places—on Earth and in space—can be “present” in each other's spaces as holograms, allowing them to feel closer and more interactive. He looks forward to such house calls. Or in this case, maybe they'd be “space calls”
32.What does the author intend to show with the example of Star Trek
A.Technology is growing at high rates.
B.Many scientists are science fiction fans.
C.Science fiction creates many classic characters.
D.Science fiction inspires technological advances.
33.How did Schmid carry out medical tests on the astronauts
A.By referring to their holographic data.
B.By talking with them as a 3-D hologram.
C.By checking the 3-D images of their body.
D.By making regular space trips.
34.What does the underlined word “flawless” in the fourth paragraph mean
A.Realistic. B.Timely. C.Detailed. D.Perfect.
35.Why did Schmid suggest using two motion-sensing cameras
A.To promote interactions.
B.To improve work efficiency.
C.To look after more astronauts.
D.To add fun to his work.

  阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Most people actually do not know how to do basic first aid on mild burns. It is normally taken for granted since most people think that soaking(浸泡) the burn in water is the way to go. 36
Once the burn appears, you will surely feel much pain in the actual burned skin. Technically, this is the time to stay calm. 37 Finding a source of running water is recommended. However, if there is none, any source will do. If there is running water, simply place the burned area under it and allow it to soak in the water for about 5 to 10 minutes. 38 If you have access to ice or a cold compress(冷敷布), you can use that as well. You can place the ice or cold compress on the affected area and leave it there for about 15 to 30 minutes. The ice will numb the pain and will also stop more injuries to the skin.
After soaking in water or cooling the area with ice, remove it from the water source and allow the moisture(水分) to dry naturally. You may also consider patting it dry with a towel or napkin; however, this could damage the burnt skin even more. 39
As soon as the area dries completely, get a bandage(绷带) or a strip of cloth. 40 This will protect that area from infection caused by outside dirt and dust getting into the open burn.
A.It is best to dry it naturally instead.
B.Calling a doctor may help in most burn cases.
C.Wrap it around the burn to cover the open area of skin.
D.The first thing you need to do is find a clean water source.
E.The truth is that soaking is the last thing to do to deal with mild burns.
F.This will relieve some of the pain, cool the skin, and stop the additional burn.
G.The thing is that treating a mild burn goes more than just soaking the affected part in water.

These days, doctors are using a new approach to healing, which is called tapping. This approach combines 56 (wise) from Chinese medicine with talk therapy(治疗).
By simply tapping points along the body while 57 (confirm) your emotional state, you can release cellular energy. By feeling the emotions, you process and clear them through 58 power of love and forgiveness.Tapping provides a healthy way to process difficult emotions, even from 59 you experienced in the distant past. The practice draws inspiration from acupuncture, a healing method from traditional Chinese medicine that 60 (date)from thousands of years ago.
Acupuncture opens energy highways in the body by sticking thin needles into the skin. Tapping takes a similar approach, but uses touch instead of needles 61 (promote) the flow of energy throughout the body.It may sound strange or impossible 62 first glance. But scientists believe that the method works because it stimulates(刺激) the 63 (center) nervous system, which causes the body to release helpful chemicals.
Everyone may have experienced some sort of emotional discomfort in their lives. 64 painful, it's important to develop healthy ways to ease their discomfort.Healing practices like tapping help release these emotions 65 (active), so you can process and heal from difficult emotions.

第二节(满分25分)
  阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Janiece Jenkins is a math teacher at East Orange Community Charter School, New Jersey. She had been certified in CPR(心肺复苏术) and first aid, 5 years before working here in the school. Because Janiece had never had a chance to put it to use, she almost forgot it after all those years. Recently, the school arranged for all the teachers to take a refresher course. As in the past, Janiece thought little of the first aid knowledge and she never thought she could put it into practice one day. But it happened that way.
On a hot summer afternoon, 9-year-old Robert Stonaker was preparing for his math class when he felt a rush of thirst. He reached for a bottle of water from his school bag. But the cap of the water bottle was too tight, so he struggled to remove it with his mouth. When the third-grader squeezed(挤压) the bottle, the water pushed the cap down his throat and blocked his airway.
Unable to breathe, Robert got out from his seat in panic and ran over to the sink to see if he could spit the cap out himself. When that didn't work, he ran across the room to ask Janiece for help, pointing to his throat.
The boy couldn't talk. His face was pale, and he was struggling to breathe. Janiece knew from the desperation on his face that he was choking and that he was in bad need of help. At the critical moment, timing is everything.Brain damage starts after approximately four minutes without oxygen.
Thanks to the refresher course, the first aid steps were fresh in Janiece's mind. She stood behind Robert and wrapped her arms around the boy's waist. With one hand made a fist, she pressed hard and quick into his stomach. She pulled inward and upward as she pressed as if she was trying to lift the boy off the ground. After several rounds of pulls and presses, the cap of the water bottle popped out of his mouth.Seeing the cap on the floor, Janiece breathed a big sigh of relief.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
Then Janiece took Robert to the nearest hospital and telephoned Robert's parents.

Janiece hoped her action would inspire others to get the training to help people in need.

第四部分 写作
第一节
One possible version:
Accidents can happen anywhere, and having the knowledge of responding effectively can make a difference in saving lives and reducing the severity of injuries. In this informative session of our Safety Awareness Leaflet, we highlight the crucial steps for treating burns, a common yet potentially serious injury.
If someone encounters a burn, act immediately and cool the affected area under cool running water for 10 minutes to mitigate pain and swelling. Avoid using ice, which can worsen the burn. After cooling, protect the burn with a sterile bandage or clean cloth—take care not to break any blisters. It's essential not to apply creams, oils, or butter, as these can cause infection. Timely and appropriate measures help ensure the best possible recovery.
第二节
One possible version:
Then Janiece took Robert to the nearest hospital and telephoned Robert's parents. Through the complete examination, the doctor told them everything was OK when Robert's parents arrived at the hospital. Robert's parents shook Janiece's hands and expressed their gratitude to Janiece. Without Janiece's calmness, quick thinking and timely help, things would have been unimaginable. Robert said that Ms. Jenkins was his new favorite superhero. Janiece felt incredibly thankful for her CPR and first aid training and for her ability to help a student in need.
Janiece hoped her action would inspire others to get the training to help people in need. She began teaching people about first aid, and created classes about it. She said that people were always thinking that there was somebody more responsible. For example, there was a nurse. But there were also cases where there was no one there. If she weren't certified, this could have gone the other way. Therefore, she hoped more people could take part in and get the training to help people in need.
