Step 1 Lead-in
Enjoy a piece of music.
T: First let’s enjoy a piece of music. Music has high notes, low notes and the notes in the middle. English is just like music. There are falling tones and rising tones when we speak.

Step 2 Presentation
1. Falling tone
T: When we speak, we drop our tone at the end of a statement.
Listen and repeat.
2. Rising tone
T: When we ask a yes/no question, our tone rises at the end of the question.
Listen and repeat.
3. Work out the rules
(1) When we ask a wh- question, our tone usually falls at the end of the question.
T: Listen and repeat.
(2) We make our tone rise at the end of a sentence to show surprise.
T: Listen and repeat.
【设计意图:介绍陈述句用降调,一般疑问句用升调,让学生模仿练习。观看外籍教师制作的关于语调的教学视频,然后让学生总结其中的规律,并练习模仿正确的语调。】
Step 3 Practice
1. A dialogue between Alice and Susan
(1) Read the conversation below. Put a falling arrow or a rising arrow at the end of each sentence.
(2) Listen to the conversation between Alice and Susan.
(3) Check answers with the students.
(4) Practice saying these sentences
2. Millie and Sandy’s conversation
(1) Put a falling arrow or a rising arrow at the end of each sentence.
(2) Listen to the dialogue.
(3) Check answers with the students.
3. Pair work
T: Work in pairs and talk about your weekend plan. Remember to use the right tones.
