IV. Teaching procedures
Step 1 Lead-in
1. Enjoy some pictures
T: What are they doing in the pictures? Have you ever had a birthday party? What was it like?
2. Plan a party
T: What should you consider when planning a birthday party?
What shall we prepare for the party?
3. Write an invitation letter
T: If you want to invite people to your birthday party, you can write an invitation letter. It’s a polite and formal way.

Step 2 Presentation
1. Listen to Suzy’s invitation letter
2. Find out the answers to the questions
(1) When will Suzy hold the party?
(2) Where will Suzy hold the party?
(3) Who will Suzy invite to the party?
(4) What will they do at the party?
3. Find out the basic structure of an invitation letter
4. Learn useful expressions.

Step 3 Practice
A farewell party for our Canadian teacher
T: Our Canadian teacher, Ms Charper is going back home. You are going to hold a farewell party for her.
1. Complete the table with your own ideas
2. Write an invitation letter to Ms Charper

Step 4 Presentation
1. How to give directions
T: You invite your friends to the farewell party for Ms Charper. But if they don’t know the way to the place where the party will be held, what should you do?
T: You may have many ways. One of the best ways is a map. You can put a map in your invitation. It’s easy and will help your friends find the place.
2. How to get to Suzy’s home
(1) Work in pairs and talk about how to get to Suzy’s home according to the map in the invitation letter.
(2) Help Suzy complete the directions.

Step 5 Practice
1. Draw a map showing the way to the place where the farewell party will be held
2. Show your friend how to get to the place according to your map
3. Show Time

V. Homework
Finish writing your invitation letter to your friends and give them directions.
