For Teng Fei’s family, home is much more than just a place to live—it’s a warm haven filled with love, laughter, and shared responsibilities (责任). Every member plays an important part in making their home comfortable and happy.
Teng Fei’s father, a cook, prepares delicious meals for the family every evening. His mother, a teacher, keeps the house tidy and organizes weekly family meetings. Teng Fei, a hard-working eighth grader, always does dishes after dinner. Even his playful 10-year-old sister Mei can feed their pet dog and water the plants.
What makes their family truly special is how they balance work and fun. Weekdays are busy with school and jobs, but weekends are for a happy time together. They might visit the local library, have badminton matches at the park, or try out new kinds of food in their small but warm kitchen. Their favourite tradition is “Family Fun Night” every Saturday. Last week, Mei chose a very interesting karaoke session (环节). They all sang terribly but laughed until their stomachs hurt.
Teng Fei recently wrote in his diary: “Our home isn’t measured (测量) by its size or fancy furniture (家具), but by how we care for each other. For children, they have the same ideas as adults. Many children feel that the most important people in their lives are their friends. They believe that family members don’t know them as well as their friends. Many studies show that people always feel better when they are with friends.
In large families, it is quite common for brothers and sisters to fight with each other. Children may feel angry about their brothers or sisters. So they always go to their friends for some ideas.
However, most parents are nervous. They’re afraid that their children can’t make the right friends. They always think about their children’s safety. As a result, some parents like to choose friends for their children. Clearly, this isn’t right. Children should make friends with others naturally.
It is important for children to have one or more good friends. Even when they are not with their friends, they usually spend a lot of time talking on the phone with them. How do you feel when you have to make a speech in front of the class How do you feel when you go to a birthday party Do you get really shy It’s said that about eighty percent of the middle school students feel afraid to be the center of attention (关注). Some kids are born shy. Some become shy later because of their life experiences (生活经历).
It’s ok if you need some time to feel yourself again when you go to a new place or meet new people. In fact, everybody sometimes gets a little shy. Most people have red faces and talk in broken sentences when they get shy. But some are too shy. They won’t go to a restaurant because they are too nervous to order. Some are afraid to meet new people, so they don’t like to go outside. This kind of shyness can be bad for a person.
If shyness doesn’t stop you from doing anything you want to do, being shy isn’t a very big problem. Shy people are even cleverer because they think more and talk less. They are also good at working with others because they think more for other people. Some great people in history were shy, too.
You see, being shy isn’t all bad. But remember not to get good chances lost. If you have to sing a song at a birthday party or practice your spoken English in front of others, just do it! There’s nothing to be afraid of.

True friendship is a really important and beautiful thing in our lives. It’s not just about having fun together, going to the movies or eating delicious food. And it’s not just about giving each other expensive gifts, either.
True friends will always be there for you when you are in trouble. For example, if you don’t do well in a test and you feel sad, a true friend will come to you right away. They will sit beside you and say kind words. Then they might study with you, help you solve the difficult problems, and make a study plan for you.
Also, true friends will listen carefully when you share your happiness and sadness. When you tell them that you won a prize in a school competition, they will feel happy for you. When you talk about you argued with your parents and feel sad, they will listen carefully and give you good advice on it. They will always keep your secrets and never tell anyone else.
Even if you live far away from each other and you might not see each other often, when you meet again or talk on the phone, it will still feel like you are together all the time. Your friendship will stay strong because of understanding each other, trusting (信任) each other, and always being willing to help each other.

At the largest “milk bank” of animal milk in the world, scientists are using this milk to help baby animals. The large milk bank is at Smithsonian’s National Zoo in the US. ▲ . And it has more than 16,000 kinds of milk taken from more than 200 kinds of animals.
Milk can help young animals to develop and grow. The scientists at the milk bank study the milk to work out what it has in it. They use this information to create “false milk”. This “false milk” is used to feed baby animals when their mothers have died or stopped having milk.
Milk has all kinds of ingredients (成分) at different levels because different animals need different things. For example, some animals living in cold water only feed their babies milk for four days. Have you heard of a cloud forest Is it the same as a rainforest Actually, it’s a very special kind of forest in cloudy mountains. There, clouds brush through trees and wet their leaves. Rain falls almost every day. Hundreds of mosses (苔藓) grow and cover everything like a soft, green coat.
Plants in cloud forests live in an unusual way. They grow on the branches of trees instead of on the ground. The air is very damp, so plants can get all the water they need from the fog and rain. They live on the high parts of trees so that they can get more light to be stronger.

Some frogs have suckers (吸盘) on their toes so they can climb up trees and cross leaves easily. Many other special animals are waiting for us to discover, aren’t they
Cloud forests are important to people. They give us healthy food crops, such as wild beans, peppers, tomatoes, potatoes and strawberries. Furthermore, they offer new medicine to treat cancer. Unluckily, the beautiful forests are in danger now. Why Firstly, the climate is getting warmer, but plants and animals in cloud forests like to live where it’s cool.
