教学目标 1.Students will understand the path of being a living legend based on the text, get familiar with worlds related to sports and fitness and wield advantages learnt from the athletes. 2.Students can practice and drill the reading techniques like prediction, scanning and inference. 3.Students will be able to discuss on the topic of their role models and give evidence.
教学重难点 1.Students will grind the passage carefully and finally have a panoramic view of the structure, the storyline and the figures of speech. 2.Students will form their own understandings and draw on keys to pursuing dreams and get spiritual inspirations.
学情分析 As freshmen, students have just learnt about ways to describe a person and how to develop a letter smoothly. They have their own favorites and preferences and know how to give supporting details. However, they still lack knowledge in vivid description of athletes’ sports career.
教学准备 Prepare stories of different athletes, videos of athletes’ lifetime and famous clips of athletes’ act. A handout of exercises, passage analysis and behind-scenes stories related to the athletes. Phrase cards for explanations and matching games.

Lead in: Teachers play pictures and videos to arose the topic about sports. For example, who won the first tennis medal for China When and where did that happen If you can be the world champion for one day, who would you choose Let students find out who did what, so as to help students stay informed. Give students chances to open up and show their support, either in terms of fans or national citizens. In the lead in section, the main purpose is to get students started to feel like chasing their admired ones. Then, they will become curious about their life, which will encourage them to know that the way to big dreams equals a bumpy road. Use AI to get to know some unrevealed knowledge like “Who is the first Chinese NBA member ”
Presentation: The teacher asks students to form into groups and find Lang Ping’s career path. What did the two celebrities bring to their country or the game They have to find the connections the athletes build in their career. Lang Ping is a good player, coach and person. She lost two teammates in preparation for a vital game. She not only collected herself, but also boosted team spirit with strong willingness. Jordan is a magic himself who used to fail countless times. He is just like us. When clearing up the storyline, students will see a path unfolding in front of them. It is not a path decorated with roses and peonies, but a road full of footprint with dirt and sweat. They are wonders because they are worth it, and people love them because they are people surpassing the definition of human beings. Students can summon AI to help solve the difficulty in reading, like where to put the right slash when trying to divide a passage.
Practice: Students can pick their favorite sentences and read it out loud with abundant emotions. Then, they should tell others what personality does the sentence tell about the character. Students should finish exercise 2 to practice text classification. The first text catches readers’ eyes by using parallelism. In this text, Lang Ping’s achievements, faith and fame are either described with certain lines or given in a not very direct way. The second text used exaggeration to emphasize on the proficiency of Air Jordan, thus adding halo to him. There are various types of texts, writing techniques and genres. In this text, people are compared in different ways. Their strengths get amplified and their charm seems to double. Students have to know which parts are necessary content carriers while which parts are descriptive. Students will write similar sentences to describe a figure, and they can vote for their favorite sentence while the teacher lets AI rate and choose the highest score of the class.
Production: It’s time for students to learn and summarize what it takes to be a positive influencer-a living legend. Try to conjecture words to elevate the main idea of the passage to a spiritual level. Ask students to vote for the best role model in their mind. Students have to summarize the whole passage into five sections and name them with words like success, faith, skills, mental strength and generous heart. Tell the way the author develops the passage, whether it is deduction or induction. It can also be separate divisions. At the end of the passage, we want students to find a common equation to success. There is no shortcut. Find other examples of top-tier professionals. They must be athletes who aims high and stay down to the ground. Besides, they have their specialty when dealing with people. Let AI do quick PK rounds based on the descriptions given by students. 作业设计 1.Design a poster about an athlete you admire. 2.Give your poster to your classmates and collect votes. 3.The person who won the most votes will be the star among the fans. He or she will be able to put up the outstanding poster in the classroom and get a photo and a signature printed by the athlete.
板书设计/课堂小结 In this class, we covered the main idea, the purpose, the structure and the shining points of this passage, from which students learnt about the real definition of success. It is a combination of both winnings and losses, givings and takings as well as tears and smiles. As teachers, we hope to lead students to a fulfilling life instead of a void one so that they can learn to talk about who they admire, communicate with people around them and have mental connections. In this class, students will also find sports more meaningful, cherish every minute and make their appearances count.
教学反思 Although I tried to cover as many aspects as possible, some students’ needs related to language barriers, sentence patterns and lack of knowledge in sports may be neglected due to time limit. I plan to clarify vague expressions more after class and give students more time to focus on ideas instead of language proficiency to boost communication. The highlights lie in sentence imitation and the equation for ordinary people to aim higher and achieve more. What we can also add here is the evaluation of students’ work according to a self-evaluation chart, or athletes’ present life to help students rethink success and how is life after success.
