I. Teaching aims and learning objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
learn to use if-clause;
learn to use unless-clause.
II. Teaching contents

1. To use if-clause to talk about the result of a possible action.
2. To use unless to say that something can only happen or be true in a particular situation.

Step 1 Lead-in
Talk about pictures by using if-clause and unless-clause.
I will get up at noon if I don’t have to work.
I will get up at noon unless I have to work.
He will play computer games if he doesn’t have homework.
He will play computer games unless he has homework.
My mother will listen to music if she doesn’t have housework to do.
My mother will listen to music unless she has housework to do.
If she doesn’t look up the word in the dictionary, she won’t know its meaning.
She won’t know the word’s meaning unless she looks it up in the dictionary.

★The unless-clause can come first or after the main clause.
★We can use unless to say that something can only happen or be true in a particular situation.
