As a small boy, Jim Corbett was amazed by wildlife. He taught himself how to seek animals and birds by the sounds they made.Later, Jim became a tracker and hunter. The authorities asked him to track and shoot man-eating tigers to protect people.
Between 1907 and 1938, Jim shot and killed nineteen tigers and fourteen leopards (豹).He did this on foot, sometimes accompanied by his dogs, and he took many risks to save people’s lives. The first tiger he shot was a Champawat Tiger, a tiger that killed more than 436 people.Jim was regarded as a hero by the locals.
Jim wondered why the tigers and leopards were killing people. When he examined many cats that he had shot, eventually he made an important discovery that shocked him. They all had injuries. Some had gunshot wounds from poachers (偷猎者).Poaching was common because people could sell tiger skins for decoration and tiger bones for medicine. One tiger had a gunshot wound in its mouth, and its teeth were damaged.Other tigers had injuries and then became sick. The reason why they were eating people was that they couldn’t hunt other creatures to feed on.
After his discoveries, Jim became interested in conservation. He concentrated on his new mission: saving tigers. He gave lectures and inspired people to respect wildlife — especially the big cats, which he loved and respected. Two years after he died in 1955, the oldest national park in India got a new name: Corbett National Park. It’s a shelter for tigers, leopards, and other endangered animals. There’s even a species of tiger named after Jim called Corbett’s Tiger, of which there may only be 350 worldwide.

Rohan Chakravarty, a cartoonist from Nagpur, is the creator of Green Humour — a series of cartoon books focused on wildlife and nature protection. His works bring to life a world where tigers worry about their future and whales throw ocean plastic waste back to humans.
Chakravarty was drawn to cartoons, like many children when he was young.Although he would get punished for often drawing on school desks and his textbooks, it didn’t stop him from creating cartoon books based on the cartoons he saw on TV.
His turning point came during his first wildlife trip as a volunteer for a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), where he saw a tiger and was inspired to draw cartoons on wildlife.Originally aiming for a job in medicine, Chakravarty realized it wasn’t his interest.Soon, Chakravarty started working as an animation (动画) designer in a Bengaluru company, and chose cartoons as his medium to communicate serious problems like environmental protection in a more attractive manner.
In 2013, Chakravarty started Green Humour, which was published on GoComics, becoming the first Indian cartoon series to reach the world. So far, Chakravarty has published nine books, including Making Friends with Snakes, which has been translated into 14 foreign languages and won a prize at the Green Literature Festival in 2021.
As a cartoonist, Chakravarty’s work is not simply saying or drawing something funny, but it relates to a lot of understanding and research. He explained that working with scientists helped him deepen his understanding of wildlife protection and balance humour and hard science.Faced with challenges like losing popularity among young readers and difficulty gaining acceptance from publishers, Chakravarty still continues to create a space for environmental protection through his art, aiming to attract people of all ages to care for the environment.
8.What does Green Humour center on?( )
A.Wildlife service. B.Wildlife research.
C.Wildlife protection. D.Wildlife organization.
9.What can we learn about Chakravarty from paragraph 2?( )
A.He preferred TV to cartoon books. B.He disliked going to school.
C.He was attracted to cartoon games. D.He was crazy about drawing.
10.What motivated Chakravarty to draw cartoons on wildlife?( )
A.His first wildlife trip. B.His job in medicine.
C.His school requirement. D.His interest in volunteering.
11.Which of the following can be used to describe Chakravarty’s works?( )
A.Difficult but inspiring. B.Boring but informative.

Many people are eager to take a trip to Africa to observe wild animals there.12.( ) However, your experiences won’t go smoothly if you make mistakes. Here are some of the biggest mistakes visitors often make when they head into the wild in Africa.
They fail to do proper research. Not all parks are created equal. You should understand exactly what you’re booking. It’s important to do your homework on the quality of service provided by the park and the guiding team.13.( ) Otherwise, you may end up regretting it.“The general rule is that you get what you pay for,” one expert suggests.
14.( ) While the impression is that the trip usually takes place in warm climates, the temperatures do drop from day to night, so layers (层) are key.Besides, the right colors can help you blend into (融入) the surroundings so that you don’t attract wild animals’ attention. For example, if your trip includes a bush walk, it’s important to avoid black and white.
They refuse to listen to the guides. The biggest mistake that people can make is assuming they know everything instead of listening to their professional guides. These guides have undergone necessary training that enables them to be experts in all situations that can come up in the wild.Their job is to keep visitors safe and offer them an amazing experience.15.( )
They expect to see animals at every turn.Keep in mind that this is the home of wild animals — not a theme park attraction. The animals’ jobs are far from trying to entertain guests. They won’t come out to welcome you.16.( ) Most of the adventures of viewing wildlife will take place in the early morning and late afternoon when you can watch the animals at their most active.
A.They pack the wrong clothes.
B.They should consider weather conditions.
C.And remember to learn about your park’s standard.
D.Such a journey can be extremely wonderful and exciting.
E.So you need to wait patiently to enjoy a breathtaking view.
F.All the visitors need do is sit back and follow the guides’ directions.
G.Some even try to make noises to get the attention of animals for a photo.

As a small boy, Jim Corbett was amazed by wildlife. He taught
himself how to seek animals and birds by the sounds they made.Later,
Jim became a tracker and hunter. The authorities asked him to track and
shoot man-eating tigers to protect people.
Between 1907 and 1938, Jim shot and killed nineteen tigers and
fourteen leopards (豹).He did this on foot, sometimes accompanied
by his dogs, and he took many risks to save people’s lives. The first
tiger he shot was a Champawat Tiger, a tiger that killed more than 436
people.Jim was regarded as a hero by the locals.
Jim wondered why the tigers and leopards were killing people. When
he examined many cats that he had shot, eventually he made an important
discovery that shocked him. They all had injuries. Some had gunshot
wounds from poachers (偷猎者).Poaching was common because
people could sell tiger skins for decoration and tiger bones for
medicine. One tiger had a gunshot wound in its mouth, and its teeth were
damaged.Other tigers had injuries and then became sick. The reason why
they were eating people was that they couldn’t hunt other creatures to
feed on.
After his discoveries, Jim became interested in conservation. He
concentrated on his new mission: saving tigers. He gave lectures and
inspired people to respect wildlife — especially the big cats, which he
loved and respected. Two years after he died in 1955, the oldest national
park in India got a new name: Corbett National Park. It’s a shelter for
tigers, leopards, and other endangered animals. There’s even a species
of tiger named after Jim called Corbett’s Tiger, of which there may only
be 350 worldwide.

Rohan Chakravarty, a cartoonist from Nagpur, is the creator of
Green Humour — a series of cartoon books focused on wildlife and nature
protection. His works bring to life a world where tigers worry about their
future and whales throw ocean plastic waste back to humans.
Chakravarty was drawn to cartoons, like many children when he was
young.Although he would get punished for often drawing on school desks
and his textbooks, it didn’t stop him from creating cartoon books based
on the cartoons he saw on TV.
His turning point came during his first wildlife trip as a volunteer for a
Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), where he saw a tiger and
was inspired to draw cartoons on wildlife.Originally aiming for a job in
medicine, Chakravarty realized it wasn’t his interest.Soon,
Chakravarty started working as an animation (动画) designer in a
Bengaluru company, and chose cartoons as his medium to communicate
serious problems like environmental protection in a more attractive
manner.
In 2013, Chakravarty started Green Humour, which was published
on GoComics, becoming the first Indian cartoon series to reach the
world. So far, Chakravarty has published nine books, including Making
Friends with Snakes, which has been translated into 14 foreign languages
and won a prize at the Green Literature Festival in 2021.
As a cartoonist, Chakravarty’s work is not simply saying or
drawing something funny, but it relates to a lot of understanding and
research. He explained that working with scientists helped him deepen his
understanding of wildlife protection and balance humour and hard
science.Faced with challenges like losing popularity among young readers
and difficulty gaining acceptance from publishers, Chakravarty still
continues to create a space for environmental protection through his art,
aiming to attract people of all ages to care for the environment.

Many people are eager to take a trip to Africa to observe wild animals
there.12.( ) However, your experiences won’t go smoothly if
you make mistakes. Here are some of the biggest mistakes visitors often
make when they head into the wild in Africa.
They fail to do proper research. Not all parks are created equal. You
should understand exactly what you’re booking. It’s important to do
your homework on the quality of service provided by the park and the
guiding team.13.( ) Otherwise, you may end up regretting
it.“The general rule is that you get what you pay for,” one expert
suggests.
  14. ( ) While the impression is that the trip usually takes place
in warm climates, the temperatures do drop from day to night, so layers
(层) are key.Besides, the right colors can help you blend into (融
入) the surroundings so that you don’t attract wild animals’
attention. For example, if your trip includes a bush walk, it’s
important to avoid black and white.
They refuse to listen to the guides. The biggest mistake that people
can make is assuming they know everything instead of listening to their
professional guides. These guides have undergone necessary training that
enables them to be experts in all situations that can come up in the
wild.Their job is to keep visitors safe and offer them an amazing
experience.15.( )
They expect to see animals at every turn.Keep in mind that this is the
home of wild animals — not a theme park attraction. The animals’ jobs
are far from trying to entertain guests. They won’t come out to welcome
you.16.( ) Most of the adventures of viewing wildlife will take
place in the early morning and late afternoon when you can watch the
animals at their most active.
A. They pack the wrong clothes.
B. They should consider weather conditions.
C. And remember to learn about your park’s standard.
D. Such a journey can be extremely wonderful and exciting.
E. So you need to wait patiently to enjoy a breathtaking view.
F. All the visitors need do is sit back and follow the guides’ directions.
G. Some even try to make noises to get the attention of animals for a
photo.
