Comic strip and Welcome to the unit
I. Teaching aims and learning objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
1. master the important words, phrases and sentences;
2. learn to name the different parts of a computer;
3. learn to talk about the basic uses of computers;
4. know how to make good use of computers.
II. Teaching contents
1. New words and phrases: programme, keyboard, unit, main unit, mouse, screen, receive, online, remote control, ah, channel, word processing, search for information, send and receive emails
2. New structures: It looks like a TV.
Let’s change the channel.
What do you usually use your computer for?
III. Focus of the lesson and predicted area of difficulty
1. Name the different parts of a computer.
2. Talk about the different uses of computers.
3. Know how to make good use of computers.

Step 1 Lead-in
1. Free talk
T: Hello, boys and girls. As we all know, the spring break is coming. Do you want to travel to these places?
T: I want to travel to these places too. How can we travel there for free?
T: Yes, we can watch TV. Besides, we can also use computers to go travelling for free.

Step 2 Presentation
1. Watch and answer
T: Do Eddie and Hobo know well about computers? Let’s watch the flash and then try to answer the following questions:
(1) What do Eddie and Hobo think the computer looks like?
(2) What do they think the mouse is?
【设计意图:通过观看动画,让学生了解对话大意,知道对话主题。】
2. Read the conversation
T: Read the conversation after the tape. Pay attention to your pronunciation.
T: Work in pairs. One will play the role of Hobo and the other Eddie.

Act it out
T: Now it’s your turn to act out the conversation.
4. Fill in the blanks
T: Look at the screen and fill in the blanks. And then we will check the answers together.

Welcome to the unit
Step 1 Presentation
1. Brainstorming
T: How much do you know about a computer? Write down the words you know about computers.
Show students some pictures about computers: Email, games, blog, keyboard, click, Internet.

2. Learn different parts of computers
T: Most of you must have a computer, right? And I am sure you know the names of different parts of a computer. Do you know how to say these in English?
T: Now please open your books and turn to page 35. Write the correct answers in the boxes in Part A.
3. Test your memory
T: Who has the best memory in our class? Let’s complete the sentences on the screen.

Step 2 Practice
1. Listen and answer
T: Computers are very useful in our daily lives. Simon and Daniel are talking about the different uses of computers. Let’s listen to their conversation, and answer the question: What does Simon usually use computer for?

3. Learn about different uses of computers
T: Simon uses the computer to search for information. What can you use a computer for? You can use the pictures and phrases on the screen to help you.
T: What else can you use a computer for? Work in groups and have a discussion from the following three aspects: For fun/For study/For life

1. Make up new conversations
T: Let’s work in pairs and make up your new conversations. You can use the conversation on the screen as a model.

2. Make a report
T: Work in groups of four and make a report about computers. You can divide your report intro three parts:
Introduction to computers
Different parts of computers
Uses of computers
