There are many colours in nature. But do you know if a colour has weight I think you’ll say “no”. But I am afraid you are wrong. If you don’t believe, you may do a small experiment (实验).
First, put two objects with the same weight into two boxes. Then cover one box with a red piece of paper, the other with a white piece of paper. OK. Now hold the boxes with your hand one by one. It is certain that you will think the red one is a little heavier.
Why do you think so A scientist found different colours have different weight in people’s minds. So he did many tests and at last he got the result. That’s to say, every colour has its own weight in our minds and the order is the same. The heaviest colour is red, then blue, green, orange, yellow and white.
The scientist told us that colours also have smell. Can you smell the colour Of course not. Then why did the scientist say so That is because every colour stands for a kind of light with a certain wavelength (波长). It comes to our brain through our sense-organs (感觉器官).
According to this discovery, scientists say that people choose the colours they like, and refuse the colours they hate. So your body and mind will be healthy by using the colours you like. Or you’ll be nervous or even get ill. That’s really amazing!
1.In people’s minds, different colours have different weight. Orange is heavier than _______.
A.blue B.red C.yellow D.green
2.The purpose of the second paragraph is to tell us _______.
A.a colour has weight in one’s mind B.white paper is lighter than red paper
C.a red box is heavier than a white one D.you can know the weight of a colour by holding it
3.Why did the scientist say colours have smell
A.Because we can smell colours with our nose.
B.Because every colour has its own sweet smell.
C.Because people can sense the light from colours.
D.Because every colour has the light of the same length.

Very often, when we see young people sitting there, looking at the screen of a mobile phone and smiling, we may think nothing is wrong. But when we come to the question “How much time do they actually spend on media (传播媒介) daily ”, the answer is surprising: young people spend about nine hours every day using media, and this only includes media used for enjoyment.
Today’s young people seem to have become crazy multi-taskers. They often use media when doing other activities. Some watch TV when doing homework, some text (发短信), and some others listen to music. But what do young people think of this A research showed that two thirds of them believed watching TV or texting had no influence on their schoolwork. Half of them thought using social media made no difference. However, researches have given a different answer: “media multi-taskers” did worse in tests.
Scientists did a research among more than 400 students. It shows that those who text a lot have more trouble sleeping and do worse in their study. In another research, students who didn’t text during a lesson took down a lot more notes than those who were texting. A similar research also found that students who texted when doing schoolwork had lower grades. According to a research, if a kid uses social media a lot, especially at night, he or she will sleep worse and feel more nervous and depressed (消沉的). On the one hand, young people stay up late to check messages and information. They may also be woken up by messages they receive. On the other hand, even the light from a screen could influence their sleep. Some other researches also show that children who use media at night go to bed later, get fewer hours of sleep each week, and become sleepy more easily during the daytime.
5.According to the article, young people use media for about ___________ every week.
A.55 hours B.65 hours C.75 hours D.85 hours
6.The underlined word “multi-taskers” in Paragraph 2 refers to people who __________.
A.ask a lot of questions B.use different media for learning
C.have several mobile phones D.do several tasks at the same time
7.Which of the following statements about using media is TRUE
A.People only use media for enjoyment.
B.Most multi-taskers believed it had a bad influence on them.
C.The results of researches on it are different from young people’s thoughts.
D.Students like to use media to help take more notes during a lesson.
8.What is the article mainly about
A.Social media is very popular among young people.
B.Using media too much has a bad influence on young people.
C.The use of social media has both advantages and disadvantages.
D.Mobile phones are the main tools students use for school learning.
Nobody likes to fail, even though it’s said that failure is the best teacher. However, some studies have shown that failure is not a bad thing.
Being wrong 15 percent of the time is the secret to learning new things, according to researchers at the University of Arizona, US.
In a series of experiments, they taught computers to do simple tasks, such as picking an odd or even number (奇偶数). They found that when the error rate was 15 percent, the computers learned faster.
In education, teachers believe that when students are faced with things they don’t know yet, they learn better. Making tasks too hard will cause students to give up easily. But if they are too easy, students will not pick up anything useful.
However, the “sweet spot” is unknown. This experiment found that the answer is 15 percent, which researchers hope will help teachers in their work. Students can keep in mind that they don’t have to be frustrated (沮丧的) if they aren’t 100% right all the time.
If failure is normal, then how do we learn from it and succeed Another study by Northwestern University, US, can tell us.
You’ve probably heard the saying “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again”. However, the study found that persistence (坚持) works only if you learn from your failures. “You have to figure out what worked and what did not, and then focus on what needs to be improved,” a researcher said.
How quickly you try again after failing affects your chances of success. If you try again quickly, you have a better chance of succeeding in the future. But if you wait too long between tries, you are more likely to fail again.
9.What happens when tasks are too hard for students
A.The students never try to solve them.
B.The students will easily give them up.
C.The students will cheat to complete them.
D.The students will learn knowledge quickly.
10.What is the “sweet spot” for learning mentioned in the passage
A.5 percent. B.10 percent. C.15 percent. D.20 percent.
11.How does persistence work according to the study by Northwestern University
A.Persistence always leads to success.
B.Persistence works only if you learn from your success.
C.Persistence works only if you learn from your failures.
D.Persistence works only if you never fail.
12.What can be the best title for the passage
A.Think about Your Future B.Learn from Your Loss
C.Look for Your Partner D.Put Down Your Stress

①Does every dinner with your parents seem to turn into an argument (争吵) Have your once warm conversations become cold You are not alone. Heated arguments and cold silences are common between teenagers and their parents.
②Teenagers’ physical (身体的) changes may cause such family problems. You may feel worried that you are developing at a different speed to your friends, shooting up in height or getting left far behind. You might worry about your changing voice and weight problems. When it all gets too much, your parents are often the first goals of your anger.
③It can be a big headache to balance your developing mental (精神的) needs too. You enter a strange middle ground-no longer a small child but not quite an adult. You have both a new hope for independence and a continued need for your parents’ love and support. You feel ready to be more responsible and make decisions on your own. Unluckily, your parents do not always agree and that makes you feel unhappy. “Why can’t they just let me go ” You may wonder. On the other hand, when you are trying to control your feelings, you wish they could be more caring and patient—sometimes they forget that growing up is a hard ride. It can be difficult when your parents treat you like a child but expect you to act like an adult. All of this can lead to a breakdown in your relationship.
④ ▲ . The key to keeping the peace is regular (有规律的) and honest communication. When you disagree with your parents, take a minute to calm down and try to understand the situation from their point of view. Perhaps they have experienced something similar and do not want you to go through the same pain. After you have thought it through, explain your actions and feelings calmly, listen carefully, and address their concerns. Through this kind of healthy discussion, you will learn when to back down and when to ask your parents to relax their control.
⑤Just remember that it is normal to fight with the stress and that you and your parents can work together to improve your relationship. The good news is that this stormy time will not last. Everything will turn out all right in the end, and the changes and challenges of your teenage years will prepare you for adulthood.

In a small village there was a middle-aged postman, who just turned 40 years old and started delivering (投递) all kinds of happy or sad stories to each home day after day for 50 kilometers. 20 years flew by, and so many changes took place, but the road from the post office to the village always hadn’t had any trees and nothing but the flying dust (尘土) could be seen.
“How long shall I go along this lonely road ” As soon as he thought he must spend his life riding the bike on the dusty road with no flower or tree, he felt somewhat sorry.
One day when he finished delivering the letters and was ready to return, he happened to pass by a flower shop. “Right, that’s it!” He walked into the shop, bought a handful of wild flower seeds (种子), and from the next day on put these seeds along the roadside. Thus, after one day, two days, one month, two months… he always kept putting the wild flower seeds along the roadside.

Overthinking is natural but can cause problems. It means thinking about the same thing again and again, leading you to see things in the worst possible way. This is because our brains are always looking for dangers so that they can make plans to deal with those dangers and keep us safe.
Imagine you are going to give a speech the next day. The night before, you spend a lot of time thinking about the possible mistakes whether you’re prepared enough. Or maybe everyone will laugh at you if you lose. Well, you might be overthinking.
Some people believe that overthinking may be helpful because it helps us look at a problem from every possible direction and get ready for what might happen. However, research suggests that overthinking can make us stressed, worried and unhappy.
What’s more, overthinking might create problems with how you get along with others. As you think the worst, make incorrect guesses, or worry about every little thing others do and say, you might misunderstand what they mean.
So, instead of sitting and thinking about a problem again and again, you can pay attention to something else instead of the problem itself. Your brain might find better ways to solve the problem while you’re doing something fun, like gardening, watching a comedy or even sleeping.
Also, when you find yourself overthinking, challenge these thoughts. Ask yourself if they will be sure to happen and think about other possibilities. It can be hard at first, after some practice, you will behave better and better.
37.What does overthinking mean
A.Thinking about future things only.
B.Thinking about different things quickly.
C.Thinking about positive things all the time.
D.Thinking about the same thing over and over.

D.Although I lost the game, I will treat myself to something delicious.
39.How does the writer support his idea in Paragraph 5
A.By listing numbers. B.By giving examples.
C.By raising questions. D.By showing pictures.
40.What can we do when we find ourselves overthinking
A.Keep thinking about it. B.Ignore it and do nothing.
C.Question the thoughts. D.Talk to everyone about it.
Is there someone you hate Well, maybe you don’t really hate them. But you get really angry every time you think of them. If you don’t let this anger go, it can turn into bitterness (痛苦).
Bitterness appears when we can’t forgive (原谅) someone who has hurt us or made us angry. Someone might say or do something that hurts us. But instead of controlling the anger, we keep it deep inside.
Before long, a bitter feeling begins to grow. We may think we’re hurting that person by criticizing (指责) him or her often, but we’re really only hurting ourselves.
Bitterness can not only cause serious health problems, such as heart disease, but also hurt our relationships with friends and family members. No one enjoys being around an angry person for very long.
If you see bitterness in your life, here are some ways to deal with it. Accept it. Instead of trying to deny your anger, make it clear to yourself and accept it. See your anger. Stop making excuses (借口) for it. You may feel you have a right to be angry. You may think you’re right and the other person is wrong. You may even secretly enjoy making the other person look bad. But in the end, bitterness hurts you much more than the other person. The bitterness will hold you back (阻碍你), and the other person will go on with his or her life.
Forgive and forget it. You probably can’t completely put the anger out of your mind. But you can decide to forgive the other person. Forget it and move on.
You’ll enjoy better health and peace of mind.

B.the anger that lives deep inside our mind
C.the person who says something that hurts us
D.our relationships with friends and family members
43.The underlined word “deny” in the passage means ________.
A.误解 B.否认 C.疏远 D.减轻
44.What can we learn from the passage
A.We should enjoy someone who hurts us.
B.We should pay more attention to our friends.
C.The peace of mind is more important than the hurt itself.
D.It’s better to let bitterness go along with the other person.
The Amazing World of Colors: More Than Meets the Eye
Have you ever wondered why the sky is blue or why a stop sign is red Colors are everywhere, and they play a much more important role in our lives than we might think. They are not just for making things look beautiful; they are a powerful form of communication and can even influence our feelings and actions.
Scientifically, color is how our eyes and brain work when we meet different wavelengths of light. When light hits an object, the object absorbs (吸收) some and reflects others. The reflected light is what we see as color. For example, a green leaf looks green because it reflects green light and absorbs other colors.
Colors can influence our moods. Studies have shown that blue often has a calming effect, which is why it is often used in bedrooms. However, red can make people feel more energetic or even hungry, which is why many fast-food restaurants use it in their logos. Yellow is usually associated with happiness and warmth.
What’s more, color is important for safety. Bright colors like orange and yellow are used for warning signs because they are easily seen, especially in low light. This helps prevent accidents.
Animals also use color for survival. Some butterflies have colorful wings to attract mates, while others have patterns that help them hide from enemies. The natural world is full of these amazing examples.
In a word, color is a fantastic part of our world. By paying more attention to colors, we can better understand the world around us.

C.Because they have a calming effect. D.Because they are cheap to produce.
48.According to the passage, why do some animals use color
A.For survival. B.To read warning signs.
C.To change their moods. D.To communicate with humans.
If you’re reading this, you were probably born in the 2000s. The oh-ohs. The 21st century. That would make you young, creative, connected, global, and no doubt smart. Maybe good-looking, too. Right But what do other people think about your generation
Some adults worry that you’re more interested in the screen in front of you than the world around you. They think of you as the “face-down generation” because you use your phone so much and they wonder how you will deal with school, friends, and family. Are today’s teenagers too busy texting and taking selfies to become successful in real life or “IRL”, as you would say
Other adults worry that today’s youth are spoilt and don’t want to face the challenges of adult life. Many children born in the 1990s and 2000s were raised by “helicopter parents” who were always there to guide and give a hand in their busy schedule filled with homework and extra-curricular activities such as dancing, drawing, or sports. With parents who do everything for them, today’s youth appear to prefer to live like teenagers even when they are in their 20s or 30s.
Does the face-down generation need a heads-up Well, probably not. The fact is that many of today’s teenagers are better educated and perhaps more creative than past generations. They also appear to be enthusiastic and willing to become leaders. More young people than ever volunteer to help their communities. There are also successful people such as Malala Yousafzai, the teenager who won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize for fighting for girls’ rights to go to school.
So if you’re one of the oh-ohs, there’s reason to be hopeful about the future. Things are looking up for the face-down generation. Chances are that you will do GR8 (great) and LOL (laugh out loud).

A.The success of the past generations. B.The praise from the oh-ohs’ parents.
C.The example of successful young people. D.The steps of becoming a successful oh-oh.
52.What is the writing purpose of the passage
A.To suggest that the oh-ohs should raise their heads.
B.To express that the future of the oh-ohs is positive.
C.To complain that the oh-ohs care only about their phones.
D.To show that the oh-ohs are much better than past generations.
What’s your dream job How much do you know about it A group of students from Tianjin found a common (常见的) problem among teenagers: Most of them have little idea about their plans for jobs.
To guide teenagers to make job plans, the students started a project. “Our survey shows 72% of students want to know more about different jobs. Doctors are the top one followed by teachers, accountants, policemen and so on,” said Wang Xinran, the project leader.
The team interviewed 32 professionals (专业人士) in different fields and posted their interviews online. They shared true stories behind each job, allowing students to learn about the jobs fully.
A team member Lu Jinyan said his most unforgettable interview was with a photographer (摄影师). “I used to think being a photographer was cool and romantic (浪漫的). But now I know they have to solve lots of problems, such as a sudden change of weather or the hurt to the camera,” Lu said. “They also need to communicate with different people, which is not easy.”
But the project doesn’t mean to let the students down by telling them the truth. “We want to show the professionals’ love and hard work rather than the bad sides.” said a member Zhao Yajie. “Jobs can not only enrich (丰富) teenagers’ life experiences, but help them make progress (进步) quickly. They are the real meaning of working. We really hope our project can help students know that.”

C.To show the bad sides of jobs. D.To let students realize the meaning of jobs.
Though being a parent has always been difficult, the Internet hasn’t made the job any easier. In today’s digital age, parents face the challenge of monitoring their children’s online behavior.
A study from the Digital Future Project shows that 70% of parents watch over their kids on social media like Facebook. In contrast, 30% of parents don’t step in kids’ online life because they trust their kids, don’t know how to use media sites or have no time to do so. Such a great difference is due to the fact that parents bring up children in totally different styles across generations.
Many parents take action to oversee their teens’ online activities. Nearly six-in-ten parents say they often or sometimes check which websites their teen visits. 46% have a password to their children’s social media accounts. In order to combat unsafe website surfing, some parents even download software such as Spectorsoft, which blocks, records and warns parents by monitoring kids’ Internet use.
However, Gwenn Schurgin O’Keffe, a parenting expert, warns against using such tools unless it’s really necessary. “You do things because you love your kids and you want to protect them,” she says, “But kids aren’t these evil creatures. Not trusting the online world should not be your only choice.”
Global efforts are underway to make the Internet safe for youngsters. The US government updated COPPA (the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act) to better protect children’s private information. Europe has given people the right to erase their surfing history on the Internet. Only with permission, should companies there have the right to access personal data.
Although there are these measures, the number of new websites keeps popping up, making it harder for rules and laws to keep up with. Therefore, parents must keep an eye on their children’s media lives, balancing trust with oversight.

Italy, long celebrated for its food, art and clothes, has added a new cultural passion: tennis.
While once considered an average tennis nation, Italy now has seven male players ranked in the world’s top 60, a level of talent matched only by the US. France and Russia have five top-60 players each, according to Reuters. What sets the Italians apart is their youth: Among the nine men in the top 100, six are aged between 20 and 23, promising a strong talent stream for years to come.
At the front is Jannik Sinner, a four-time Grand Slam champion. His on-court success and modest (谦逊的) personality have turned him into a national figure (人物). “We never had the front page of Gazzetta dello Sport (a widely read daily newspaper in Italy) showing tennis, and now tennis is in all papers, no matter what Sinner does,” long-time journalist Ubaldo Scanagatta told CNN.
Italy’s tennis rise, however, is more than just one player. The Italian tennis federation (FITP) has spent over a decade reshaping player development. Angelo Binaghi, FITP president since 2001, told Reuters that in the last 10-15 years, they’ve expanded training and increased financial, technical and mental support for young athletes.
Promising athletes under 16 no longer leave home for national centers. Instead, they develop at home with private coaches, supported by regional training places and guided by federation “super-coaches”, Michelangelo dell’Edera, Davis Cup team manager and head of the under-16 field, told Reuters. “It’s been extraordinary (非凡的), and quite unusual for Italian people who are individualistic (个人主义的) by nature.”
International experts like Craig O’Shannessy, formerly with Novak Djokovic, have also helped change the game. Since 2016, O’Shannessy has worked for the federation and assisted (协助) the rise of Matteo Berrettini, a famous player from Italy into the top 10. He uses data analysis (数据分析) to develop strategic training made specifically for the players. “I wanted to... get them to play where the coaches could see strengths and weaknesses clearly. Then coaches could offer better guidance instead of a cookie-cutter approach (千篇一律的方法),” he told CNN.
Italy’s commitment includes major events. Turin has hosted the ATP Finals since 2021, originally scheduled through 2025. However, due to its success, the event will remain in Italy until 2030, AP News reported.
