Go to Cooking School with a Michelin-Starred
Chef in These 3 Destinations
For the food-driven travelers planning their next trip based on what and where to eat, two of the most popular paths include booking a table at a Michelin-starred restaurant and experiencing a hands-on cooking class. Now, those two can be combined into a cooking class led by a Michelin-starred chef.
Switzerland:Castello del Sole
Chef Mattias Robock leads guests through a 90-minute risotto masterclass on Saturdays in the kitchen of Castello del Sole, which has one Michelin-starred.Robock says that the kitchen attracts a lot of curiosity because it's not often that you get to go inside since many chefs do not want to tell the secrets behind their signature recipes. He offers more of an open-door policy for guests, welcoming visitors of all ages and experiences.
United Kingdom:Le Manoir aux Quat' Saisions, A Belmond Hotel
Guests of Le Manoir aux Quat' Saisions can sign up for half-and full-day culinary experiences.“ Our courses are suitable for all experience levels,” Peregrine says.“Guests love to experience the buzz of being among two Michelin-starred chefs, and they often leave the classes feeling highly inspired by Raymond Blanc's passion for cooking.” For a more personalized experience, private four-day courses can be arranged with Blanc.
France: Fleur de Loire
The Fleur de Loire is a must-visit in Loire Valley. Here, perhaps it shouldn't be a surprise that you can enroll for some hands-on instruction from Michelin-starred chef Christophe Hay.He leads a monthly cooking class series with different themes throughout the year.“Today we offer cooking classes for a very wide audience,” Hay says.“No matter what, the effect is always the same: cooking brings people together, and these moments of sharing unite us.”

At the age of 16, Lasse Stolley from Germany went out for a change after graduation from junior high school.Little did he know that this change would take him farther than 500,000 kilometers — all on trains.
Inspired by a movie he had watched online, Stolley bought a Bahncard 100, a ticket that allows unlimited travel on all Deutsche Bahn trains in Germany for a year. But Stolley didn't just travel on those trains. He made his home on trains, living there full-time.During the day, he took trips and at night, he slept across the seats on high-speed trains.
“I can decide every day where I want to go, whether to the Alps, to a big city or to the sea,” Stolley said.
Each morning, Stolley would check the train connections for the day, and decide what journeys he would take based on the weather and his mood.He might stop off at a swimming pool for a shower, or enjoy the views with a hike between train rides.
While he didn't pay rent, Stolley said that he had spent around $10,000 a year on living expenses, including his $6,400 train pass and entry cost to things like swimming pools. But since Stolley was a “Platinum” Deutsche Bahn customer, he could eat from Deutsche Bahn for free.
To cover his extra cost, he made a_buck on the move by working as a programmer from his laptop. In 2023 alone, Stolley spent over 3,700 hours on trains. He also took trains across Europe with an Interrail pass, and travelled as far as Ankara in Turkey. All of his adventures were recorded on his online blog, named “Life on the Train”.

Ⅰ.阅读理解
Tourist industry has advantages and disadvantages. While it makes money for the local economy and creates jobs for locals, it also causes problems.
One growing problem is tourists who want to show that they have visited a destination.Tourists have used paint, rocks, or keys to write on the Luxor Temple in Egypt, the Colosseum in Rome, Stonehenge in the UK, and many other places.Thousands of tourist sites are being destroyed by tourists.I have three words for people like this:Please stop it.If you want to leave a mark, do it by changing someone's life with kindness and love.Pass kindness along to future generations, not destruction.
Another big problem in some places has been tourists disturbing the local people and life. Some tourists wander around and take pictures of locals without asking for their permission. For example, Chiang Mai University in Thailand and Yonsei University in South Korea have great numbers of tourists visiting their campuses and walking through their libraries and other public areas, taking pictures of students, and disturbing their studies.Another example is Sanlitun, a neighbourhood in Beijing, China. Some tourists love to party there late into the night, making it difficult for locals to sleep.I have three words for tourists like this:Please be considerate.Have fun in a way that does not disturb others.
The number of problems from tourists is endless: walking in large groups without considering others, crossing roads without thinking of local traffic laws ... The only solution is to make sure that you are not a terrible tourist! Be the best, kindest, most polite tourist! Remember, whenever you step outside your country's borders, you are standing for your country to the rest of the world.

I am seeing him off this afternoon.
今天下午我去给他送行。
We are leaving for Shanghai this afternoon.
今天下午我们将动身去上海。
2.用非位移动词
现在进行时表示将来除使用位移动词外,也可使用某些非位移动词,如do、buy、meet、have、play、finish、stay、publish等,此时句中一般要有表示将来的时间状语。
The young man is meeting his girlfriend this afternoon.

看这些乌云!天要下雨了。

The bus leaves at 9:00 p.m.
汽车将于晚上9点离开。

The preparation for this trip started a few months ago.I tried to prepare in the best way possible as this is unexplored area for most. Also it will be my first hike really off_the_beaten_path.I will not go into details until I get back and actually know what I am talking about.
There are a few things to keep in mind when you plan to hike in Sarek National Park.First of all, there are no huts or any accommodation. If you are at the heart of Sarek you will be at least a 4-5 days hike away from the next mountain hut.So this means I will have to carry everything I need for 8-10 days. The biggest part of the load will be food. There are no paths or way marks.I will have to make my own route with maps.In addition, the weather can be very challenging.Sarek is the area in Sweden with the heaviest rainfall. It is also known for strong wind and there're not many places to shelter from it because there are hardly any trees. It is important to bring professional hiking clothing.Finding and choosing a good campsite might take some time as well.

Ⅰ.阅读理解
Are you attracted to faraway places?Do you prefer a vacation away from other tourists? Are you careful to take only memories and to leave only footprints? If you answered yes to more than one of these questions, you just might be an ecotourist.
Ecotourists are people who want to experience the natural world without damage and leave it that way when they return home. This started in the 1990s and ecotourism is now growing three times faster than the tourism industry at large. The Ecuador's remote Amazon Basin is leading to that enlarging, and it gives tourists a snapshot of what ecotourism looks like.
At the Ecolodge,a small group of small houses sit Kapawi Ecolodge in the middle of the Achuar people's reserve and are only accessible by air. From here, visitors can explore parts of the Amazon rainforest seen by few outsiders. As they do,local Achuar guides explain how the forest is like their supermarket, where they find food, clothing, medicine and tools. As a result, tourists learn to enjoy the local culture as well as the natural environment.
The owners of Kapawi pay monthly rent to the Achuar people, but they also train the community to run and manage the lodge. They have agreed on a plan to turn the operation over to the Achuar completely. The owners are working to make ecotourism benefit and empower the local people.
You probably won't start your own ecolodge, but you can be an ecotourist if you follow these guidelines:Protect the environment;Support local businesses;Respect the local customs and traditions.
The world is full of fascinating places to visit. As an ecotourist, you can enjoy them yourself and make sure that they remain beautiful for future generations as well.

The Arctic trip with Quark Expeditions is an amazing experience, and I am thankful for it.However, it also makes me realize our presence here sounds pointless in this great setting, like we are visitors from another world.
Our 10-day journey explored the Svalbard islands in northern Norway. At our farthest point, the North Pole was still 600 miles away, but I had never been so far north. It felt like we were at the top of the world.
The story of humans in the Norwegian Arctic is all about looting the natural world for fur, coal and other resources. The first recorded visit was by Dutch sailor Willem Barentsz in June 1596, searching for a northeast passage to China.History presenter Federico Gargiulo explained that this discovery put the Arctic on the map. That attracted people to come and try to take those resources.
Today, there are environmental controls on visiting this area.On our first day, we watched videos that laid down the law: Do not touch or take anything, and stay with your armed guide for protection from polar bears. We also washed our shoes and feet before boarding or leaving the ship to make the land free of pollution.
Tourists pay a lot and travel far to see Arctic wildlife. On our last night, we finally got a close-up of a polar bear.Everyone rushed to the decks with cameras. We saw the bear swimming towards us, and as it got closer, we could make out its black eyes and rounded ears.
Quark Expeditions' guides are experienced in different fields.I learned a lot from them. The guide Austin Hart's words impressed me: “It's not much of a human planet.Dinosaurs were around for 180 million years.I don't know if humans have that long.” As I stood among ice and snowy mountains, this made me feel unbelievably small.

If you could time travel, would you visit the past or the future You could find your ancestors, descendants, or experience life when dinosaurs wandered your back garden. It sounds otherworldly, but scientists have looked into whether time travel is actually possible.
Albert Einstein's theory of relativity changed the understanding of space, time, mass and gravity. The key element of this theory is that time and space are linked together, and time doesn't flow at a constant rate, meaning it speeds up or slows down, depending on where you are.For example, when you travel at high speeds, time decreases, which means, according to NASA, astronauts in space moving at high speeds age more slowly than those on Earth! So, if you wanted to travel to the future, you would need to move close to the speed of light. Then, while centuries pass on Earth, you'd experience a relatively short amount of time and could hypothetically return home, where it would be the future!
Travelling backwards in time seems much more difficult.Theoretically, one way of going back is via a wormhole. That means, if space and time can be folded like paper, we could create a tunnel — a shortcut between points in time. The problem is that there is no evidence that wormholes exist.“It's been shown mathematically that they can exist, but whether they exist physically is something else,” says Emma Osborne, an astrophysicist at the University of York. Also, theories show that wormholes would be so small that a person definitely couldn't fit through one, and they would have such an intense gravitational field that they would collapse very quickly.
For now, it seems we'll have to be content with science fiction and using telescopes to look back in time rather than travelling through it.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
In a small town, there lay a garden nourished by sunlight and rain, full of life. Here lived a hardworking gardener famous near and far — Daniel. His hands seemed to have magic, able to make the most ordinary seeds bloom into the most beautiful flowers, keeping the garden spring-like all the year round and making it a beautiful scenic spot in the town.
Eric grew up in his father's garden and was curious about everything in the garden. However, in his school, most of his classmates came from wealthy families, discussing the latest video games, fashionable clothing, and upcoming holiday travels.Whenever Eric excitedly shared his new discoveries from the garden, he often received laughter and indifferent looks from his classmates.“Your father is just a gardener! You are a bumpkin!” Such words, like sharp knives, stabbed his heart time and time again. He always cried secretly.
One day, Daniel found that his 11-year-old son was crying silently and asked him, “What's the matter, son?” Eric replied, “My rich classmates laughed at me and called me son of a gardener. They said that my father lives only on the money that he earns from watering and feeding plants for people.” Daniel paused for a moment and then said, “Come with me, my son.Let us plant some flowers and it might cheer you up.”
Daniel held Eric's hand and walked him to the garden. Then he took out some flower seeds and said, “Let's carry out an experiment. We'll plant two flowers separately.I will care for one and you will care for the other.I will water mine with clean water from the lake, but you will water yours with dirty water from the pond.We shall see the outcome in the weeks to come.”
Although Eric was confused about why his father asked him to water the flower with dirty water, he was still delighted to join his father in planting the flowers. It took them some days to finally germinate(使发芽)the flower seeds. They cared for them separately and watched them grow.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;

Later on Daniel brought his son to the garden and said to him, “Look at the two flowers and tell me your observation.” Eric gazed at the blooms, noticing a stark difference. His father's flower, watered with clean lake water, stood tall and vibrant, its petals gleaming with health. In contrast, his own flower, nourished by the murky pond water, appeared weak and withered, its colors dull.“Dad, why is my flower so much worse?” Eric asked, his voice tinged with disappointment.
Daniel smiled and replied to his son gently. “Son, just as these flowers need clean water to thrive, people need positive environments and kind words to grow strong.Your classmates' words are like the dirty water, trying to dull your spirit. But remember, it's not their words that define you; it's your own actions and beliefs. You have a gift for seeing beauty in nature, a gift I've seen in few others.Hold onto that, and let it shine brighter than any material wealth.Be proud of who you are and what you come from.A gardener's son has a heart full of life and love, and that's something no one can ever take away from you.” Eric nodded, feeling a newfound sense of pride and determination welling up inside him.开篇·把握单元目标
