【答案】A Famous Figure in Chinese History
The river of history keeps flowing, leaving the giants shining like diamonds. Among all the famous figures in Chinese history, the one that attracts me most is Su Shi.
Su Shi, also known as Su Dongpo, is a writer, poet, and politician in Song Dynasty. Born to a family with an extreme talent in literature, he wrote thousands of delicate poems, and even started a new genre. However, his political career wasn’t smooth, and kept wandering farther and farther in his later part of life. Nonetheless, whatever hardship he was faced with, he managed to overcome it, leaving us with the legendary pieces.
In my childhood, he showed me the beauty of poems, and enhanced my interest in literature. But as time goes, I start to realize that his influence on me is beyond literature. In the face of frustrations, he never compromised. Instead, he always kept his cool and optimistic attitude. I shall never lower my head, and will shout in the rain, just like him.
【答案】One possible version:
They decided to pick up Hazel on weekend. That was a dream which came true for Sutter, who has been asking for a cat since he was really little. On Saturday morning, Sutter got up very early, earlier than he does in weekdays. The family had breakfast quickly and they drove to the local animal shelter. When Sutter saw Hazel, it was a little shy and looked weak. Sutter touched the head of Hazel softly and it looked as if Hazel had accepted the new kind owner completely.
Since adopting Hazel,Sutter has made a lot to improve her condition. He prepared many kinds of nutritious foods for Hazel carefully. What’s more, he helped Hazel walk little by little and accompanied it as much as possible to make sure it enjoyed itself. After weeks of careful care, it recovered much from her injuries. The BC SPCA thanked Sutter for the “sweet” fundraiser idea and helping Hazel recover. “We hope she will regain full jumping and running abilities within the next months,” said Sutter’s mum.2025-2026学年黑龙江省哈尔滨市第十二中学校高二上学期10月月考英语试题

One day about eight years ago in the departure lounge (休息室) of a flight from New York's LaGuardia airport to O'Hare in Chicago, I found a young boy in tears and his mother at his side also appeared upset, I walked to them and invited them to our VIP lounge.
As it turned out, the boy, Miles and his mom were returning to their home in Kansas City. Miles has had some health problems. Though he had received more than thirty operations in a Jewish Hospital in New York, he would be back for more.
Miles enjoyed spending his time in our VIP lounge looking at the entire wall filled with the pictures of many celebrities (名人) who often came to our office. We soon added Miles' picture to the wall among those celebrities.
Among the celebrities, Miles like the country singer Garth Brooks best. Miles would just sit and stare at Garth's picture,
One day, Mr. Brooks was waiting in the lounge for his flight. As he looked at the collection of photographs, Garth asked about the youngster with the big smile. We told him about Miles. We also told him how much Miles loved and respected (尊重) him. He nodded and left.
About six months later, Garth was going to be performing in Kansas City and he asked our workers to help him get in touch with the family. He wanted Miles to be his guest. That evening, not only did Miles sit in the front row, but he and Garth also had a private meeting after the performance.
Although Miles would receive many more treatments after that special evening, his smile greeted us with every following visit. The face of a sick boy was changed by the joy of a stranger.

A Norwegian company has created what it calls the world’s first zero-emission(排放), autonomous cargo ship(货船). Developed by chemical company Yara International, the ship was designed to reduce emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases, and move goods away from roads to the sea.
The shipping industry accounts for between 2.5% and 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions, according to the International Maritime Organization. Nearly all of Norway’s electricity is generated by hydroelectric power, which is generally considered to have much lower carbon emissions than burning fossil fuels, despite the fact that it still produces greenhouse gases.
Capable of carrying 103 containers and with a top speed of 13 knots, it will use a 7 MWh battery, with about a thousand times the capacity of one electrical car. The ship will be charged near the port before sailing to container harbors along the coast and then back again, replacing 40,000 truck journeys a year.
As well as providing a greener option compared to conventional cargo ships, there is no crewman, which means it will be more cost-effective to operate. Initially, loading and unloading the ship will require humans, but gradually, all loading, discharging, and some other operations will also be eventually operated using autonomous technology. That will involve developing autonomous cranes(起重机) and carriers, which are the vehicles that place containers onto ships.
According to researchers, fully autonomous ships are the future. But there are many challenges to overcome before autonomous ships can be used for commercial long sea journeys. Navigating traffic in large ports could be a major barrier.
Without a crew aboard to carry out maintenance checks, autonomous ships would need built-in self-diagnosing systems with the ability to detect and fix problems, or call for human assistance.
Although Yara International has no plans to add more autonomous ships to its operations, we may see more elements of AI technology used on commercial ships in the future. Elements are already being used in shipping today when it comes to the voyage and we’ll see more partly autonomous elements added.
8. What’s the good news about the new ship
A. It’s conventionally designed. B. It has been fully marketed.
C. It’s environmentally friendly. D. It is luxuriously equipped.
9. What plays a critical role in the ship’s successful operation
A. The autonomous carriers. B. The latest navigating traffic.
C. The burning of fossil fuels. D. The massive battery capacity.
10. What can we learn from paragraphs 4-6
A. Researchers are pessimistic about its future.
B. The new ship isn’t completely autonomous yet.
C. A lot more such ships will be in operation soon.
D. No human labor is needed to maintain the ship.
11. What is the author’s attitude to technology being applied to shipping
A. Favorable. B. Reserved. C. Suspicious. D. Disapproving.
D
It’s reported that the number of monarch butterflies (帝王斑蝶) or monarchs spending the winter in the western United States has dropped to its second-lowest mark in nearly 30 years.
Monarch butterflies are known for their clear orange-and-black markings, living across North America. Monarchs in the eastern United States spend the winter in Mexico. Monarchs in the west of the Rocky Mountains usually spend the winter along the California coast.
The Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation has been counting western overwinter populations in the western United States for the last 28 years. The highest number recorded was 1.2 million in 1997. It counted just 9,119 monarchs in 2024, a decrease of 96 percent from 233,394 in 2023. The total was the second lowest since the survey began in 1997. The record-low count was 1,901 monarchs in 2020. The survey noted that a place in Santa Barbara that saw 33,200 monarchs last winter had only 198 this year.
It remains unknown what caused such a change in the western population in just one year. Biologist Emma Pelton said, “Monarchs suffer when the temperature rises to 37.7℃ and any temperatures above 42.2℃ will kill them. The western states’ temperatures in many areas well past 37.7℃, some reportedly reaching a record 51.1℃.” Another threat is the supply of milkweed, a plant monarchs feed on. Milkweed has been disappearing in recent years because of dry weather, wildfires, urban development, and pesticides (杀虫剂) on the remaining plants.
According to Pelton it was too early to tell what long-term effect the great change might have on the overall western monarchs population. “This is bad news,” Pelton said of the 2024 population drop. “But we have seen incredible recovery. This doesn’t mean we’re not going to have western monarchs.” After a low point of 1,901 monarchs in 2020, the population recovered to 247,246 monarchs the following year, an increase of nearly 13,000 percent. The year after that the survey recorded 335,479 monarchs.
The US plans to list monarchs as threatened to call for conservation

“I just couldn’t stop thinking about her.” That’s what a nine-year-old cat lover Sutter Rowse said after he saw a story about a stray cat (流浪猫) in his community of Williams Lake, British Columbia, which was in need of surgery (外科手术). He decided to do something about it and raise funds to help the cat. Now, that cat is much better and has a brand new owner, all thanks to Sutter’s hard work and clever thinking.
Online, Sutter came across a story posted by his local animal shelter. The BC SPCA explained that the cat — which was named Hazel by shelter staff — had been found at the transfer station in Anahim Lake, about fourhours west of Sutter’s home. A transfer station is a place where garbage and other waste are sorted. Shelter staff said Hazel was looking for food there.
They later discovered that the back part of it was injured. The head of her femur (股骨) was broken and died — meaning the death of cells in some part of the body — had set in, so Hazel would need surgery to get better. SPCA staff put out a call to the community to raise funds for it, and that’s when Sutter got to work. Sutter thought up a good idea: making use of the power of cinnamon buns (肉桂面包). He knew if there was anything that could get community members to empty their pockets, it would be this sweet treat: cinnamon buns.
He and his mum, Leslie Rowse, got to workbaking, and his mum posted about Sutter’s efforts on a social media page for his local community. Around 15 dozen (or 180) cinnamon buns later, Sutter had raised $850. His mum dropped off the money at the shelter, and Hazel was able to start her surgeries.
Following Hazel’s surgeries and several days of recovery, Sutter’s mum was ready to share some good news. Sutter’s mum told Sutter that Hazel had a new owner. She asked him to guess who that owner was. “I guessed us! And I was right,” said Sutter.
