He told a story: when I was young, I had many 2 , such as painting, swimming and playing basketball. I spent lots of time 3 every day. I was so busy and tired. In one final exam, I was 7 to find that I fell far behind other students. When my father knew this, he touched my head and said, “Don’t worry. I 8 you.”
After dinner, he told me, “Tonight, I want to give you an experiment (实验).” My father put a small funnel (漏斗) on the table and asked me to put my hand 9 it. And then he took out some corn seeds and 10 one and threw it into the funnel. The seed fell from the funnel into my hand. 11 my father threw like this a few more times, I had a few more corn seeds in my hand. Then my father put all the corn seeds into the funnel. There were so 12 corn seeds that none of them fell.
My father said to me 13 , “You are a clever boy. This funnel stands for you. If you can do one thing well every day, every day you will have the 14 of having a seed. However, when you want to do all the things together, even one seed can’t you 15 .”
For more than 20 years now, I have always remembered these words: do one thing every day and face life calmly with a smile.

Once upon a time, in a faraway forest, there lived a little bird who was not as skillful as the other birds. While the other birds could fly 91 through the air, this little bird struggled (挣扎) just to keep its balance. Few birds wanted to play with it. Its name was Tony, and he often felt lonely and unhappy about this.
Tony’s mother, a wise old bird noticed his sadness and talked to him. She said “Tony, each bird has its own speed. You may not be as 92 as them now, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be great. Remember, the early bird catches the worm (虫子), but it’s also true that the bird who 93 early and practices hard will catch even more.”
Tony was 94 by his mother’s words. He decided to start practicing flying every day 95 the other birds were still asleep. He didn’t stop even when he felt 96 or his wings were painful.
Day after day, Tony’s 97 paid off. His wings became stronger, and his flight became smoother. The other birds began to notice his progress and were 98 by his strong will (意志), so his circle of friends began to grow.
One sunny morning, when a great 99 started, Tony was ready. As the signal was given, Tony took off with all his strength. He flew higher and faster than he had ever flown. His heart was filled with joy as he crossed the finish line, winning the competition. The other birds cheered and congratulated Tony on his 100 . Tony smiled and said “It was my mother’s words that gave me the courage to 101 . She taught me that it was ok to be 102 at the start, but as long as I kept trying and never gave up, I could achieve anything.
From that day on, Tony’s story was a 103 of hard work, teaching the other birds that it was not about being the fastest or the most skilled but about the courage to 104 and the will to succeed.
