After 1986, Lang Ping played and coached abroad. In 2013, she came back to coach China's women's volleyball team. With her help, the team won the 2015 World Cup, 2016 Rio Olympics and 2019 World Cup. In 2021, after the Tokyo Olympics, she stepped down.

According to the results, 60% of my classmates like ball games, such as basketball and badminton. 25% prefer running or swimming, and only 15% don't like any sports. About 70% exercise 1-2 hours a week, while 20% exercise more than 3 hours. All students who often exercise said they feel more energetic in class.
In my opinion, sports are really good for us. They not only keep our bodies healthy but also help us focus better on studies. We should all keep doing sports regularly.

Lee is a top student and a well-known football star in his school. He started playing football when he was 4, after watching a World Cup game with his dad. At 8, his parents noticed his talent and decided to send him to a local football school. Now, as a middle school student, he trains 2 hours every day after school—practicing passing, shooting, and team strategies. He also does 30 minutes of strength exercises each morning to keep fit, like push-ups and squats.
When Lee first joined the football school, he faced a small challenge: he was shorter than most of his teammates. But he never felt discouraged. Instead, he practiced dribbling an extra 30 minutes every evening to improve his agility, making up for his height with better skills. His coach often says, “Lee’s best quality is his focus—when he’s on the field, he’s fully into football.”
Lee also knows how to balance his studies and sports perfectly. “When I’m in class, I put my phone away and focus only on schoolwork,” he says. “When I train, I forget about homework and think about how to play better. Lang Ping was born in Beijing in 1960. As a child, she wanted to play basketball like her older sister. But in middle school, her PE teacher noticed her strong arms and quick reactions, so he asked her to try volleyball. Lang Ping took the advice—she trained the hardest in the team, even wearing out a pair of sports shoes every month from running and jumping.
At 18, Lang Ping joined China’s women’s national volleyball team. She was soon nicknamed the “Iron Hammer” for her powerful spikes (扣球) that were hard for opponents to block. From 1981 to 1986, she helped the team win five world championships, including the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic gold medal. After retiring as a player in 1986, she went abroad to coach, learning new training methods.
In 2013, Lang Ping came back to coach China’s women’s volleyball team. At that time, the team was not in its best form. She changed the training plan, focused on team cooperation, and encouraged players not to give up. Her efforts worked: she led the team to win the 2016 Rio Olympic gold medal and the 2019 World Cup. In 2021, after the Tokyo Olympics, she stepped down as coach, but she still visits young players to share her experience.

Jenny is a 14-year-old student with medium height and a clever mind—she often helps her classmates with math homework. But for a long time, she worried a lot about her appearance. She thought her hair was too thin, her legs were too short, and she often compared herself to her classmates. When she saw models on TV—with perfect skin and long legs—she even wished she could look like them.
To look “perfect” like TV models, Jenny once tried using her mom’s lipstick and foundation, but the make-up made her face feel sticky and uncomfortable. She also borrowed high-heeled shoes from her cousin to make her legs seem longer, but the shoes hurt her feet so much she could barely walk. She even refused to join the school photo club because she was afraid her photos would look bad.
Everything changed when Jenny joined the school drama club. One day, the club needed someone to play a funny, kind character—and her classmates all recommended her. During rehearsals, everyone praised her acting skills and said they liked her because she was humorous and easy to work with. Jenny’s best friend told her, “Your personality is what makes you special, not your looks.”
Slowly, Jenny stopped worrying about her appearance. She realized TV models’ “perfection” was fake—they used make-up and computer edits. Now, she enjoys taking photos with friends and even posts short videos of her drama performances online. She finally learned to love herself for who she is.

Annie joined the middle school volleyball team last year. She thought it would be fun, but it was hard. Other players were better than her. She felt the coach was picking on her because she had to practise serving alone while others played games.
One day, Annie threw the ball and shouted, "I give up!" She ran outside. Coach Ken followed her and said, "People who give up never win. You're getting better, and we believe in you."
Annie was surprised by his words. She went back and her teammates cheered. They helped her practise. That summer, the team won the City Championship. Annie got the Player of the Year Award. On it was a note: "Don't be afraid of growing slowly. Be afraid of standing still."
