Do you have anything you want to share with others Starting a high school club can help you build a community and connect with like-minded students. Here is a step-by-step guide to get started.
Step 1: Choose Your Club and Set Goals
First, decide the type of club you want to create. Consider whether you are starting a new club, bringing back an old one, or making a current one bigger. Set clear and achievable goals. For example, if you want to start a chess club, you may need at least eight members to hold competitions. Knowing your goal will help you plan well.
Step 2: Know Who You Want to Join
Think about who might be interested in joining the club. For a math club, students who are good at STEM subjects are a natural choice, but don’t limit yourself. Students doing well in other subjects, such as history or arts, may also provide unique ideas. A clear target audience (目标群体) increases the chances of attracting members.
Step 3: Recruit (招募) Members
This is the most important step. You can use several methods:
·Posters: Make eye-catching posters and place them in classrooms, halls, and online.
·Announcements: Ask the school to include your club in daily announcements.
·Club Days: Set up a special place where you students can try things. Fun activities get more attention than a simple sign.
·Word of Mouth: Encourage members to invite friends. Your group can grow fast in this way.
Step 4: Welcome New Members
Once members join, make them feel included. Plan activities that allow everyone to join in, even beginners. Involved (参与) members are more likely to stay and help the club do well.
Starting a club needs planning, creativity, and teamwork. Follow these steps, and you can build an active and growing group in your school and finally enjoy your school life.

When a hurricane hit her hometown, Karen Lauder chose to stay at home because she didn’t know how strong the storm would be. Karen was 84 years old and depended on a wheelchair to get around because she was missing a leg. Her son, Johnny Lauder, tried repeatedly to get her to leave, but she refused.
Johnny and his whole family live within a few blocks of one another. They kept in touch with Karen as the storm continued violently (猛烈地) outside, watching the water rising dangerously all around them. When Karen reported that the water in her house had reached her bottom, Johnny knew he had to take action.
First, Johnny ensured his sons and their pets were taken care of. Then, he jumped out of a window and began to swim. Johnny used to work as a rescue swimmer. He is obviously a strong swimmer, but the flood water was filled with dangerous materials. There was also a strong current (水流), and he had to swim against it for most of his trip to Karen’s. As he made his way through the water, Johnny stopped periodically to snap selfies (自拍) to show his worried family that he was okay.
Johnny was racing against the clock. He knew he only had a short period of time to get there before the water rose above Karen’s head. It took him 40 minutes to swim four blocks. The sound of Karen shouting inside was music to his ears!
“If it would’ve been 20 minutes later, she wouldn’t be here,” Johnny said. “She’s never been happier to see me.”

When you think back on your school days, what’s the first thing that comes to mind The school building itself A memorable teacher The friends you made Chances are that the actual lessons of reading, writing, math and science are not at the top of your list, although they do serve as the basic skills of an education.
We may have taken in a lot of information, and know how to access it. But is there something else we should have learned in school
Albert Einstein said, “Education is not the learning of facts but the training of the mind to think.”
Learning how to think is more than just memorizing a list of facts and figures. Learning how to think for yourself includes forming opinions and making decisions based on your own understanding. Be curious and question everything. Re-examine your views and values often and be open to opposing(反对) viewpoints. By using critical thinking skills, you can base your decisions on gathered facts, and know that things can change if new information is presented.
From the wisdom of Ancient Greece come the words, “know thyself.” By understanding your feelings and discovering your strengths and weaknesses, you develop self-awareness. That will help you make decisions and pursue(追逐) goals in your best interest. Philosopher Aristotle said, “Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom,” which is the basic quality of having experience, knowledge and good judgment.
Combined with the lessons we learned from a formal education, thinking for yourself allows you to find your place in the world. Once equipped, you can move forward to discover your own destiny(命运).

Math is everywhere in our life, from working out the bill after dinner to your personal costs. While some people enjoy solving math problems, many others are afraid of the moment when they have to deal with numbers and feel really anxious. It might seem discouraging, but this “math anxiety” is quite common, and you’re far from being the only one who feels this way. Besides, our worries and fears don’t always show how able we are.
The reason for this problem often begins to appear in our childhood at school. Studies have shown that math teachers who feel nervous about teaching the subject can pass their anxiety to their students, and girls might be more affected by this anxiety. According to the Program for International Student Assessment, around 31% of 15 and 16-year-olds in 34 countries said that they felt very nervous when solving math problems, 33% said they got nervous doing math homework, and nearly 60% worried that math classes would be difficult. Shulamit Kahn, from Boston University’s Questrom School of Business, told the BBC that providing students, especially girls, with good role models “is important, especially at a young age.” She believes the key is to have people, especially women who love teaching math, educate younger kids.
David Robson, writing for BBC Future, mentioned, “It’s unclear why math causes so much fear compared to other subjects like geography. But knowing there’s a right or wrong answer might make you more anxious about not doing well.”
And if we believe that we’re not “math people”, we may question about ourselves and avoid solving problems that we could deal with.
Researchers have been trying to work out why mental math can make us nervous. This fear might come from all kinds of sources, but some suggest that openly expressing your fears can weaken their control on you and encourage children to see math tests as challenges rather than threat (威胁). We need to have a positive view on math and give it another try.
What’s the main idea of paragraph 2
A.Girls are better at math than boys.
B.Math classes are difficult for everyone.
C.Students’ anxiety only comes from teachers.
D.Math anxiety in childhood affect students’ confidence.
33. What might happen if someone believes they’re not a “math person”
A.They will study math harder. B.They will doubt their abilities.

A.Find the reasons of math fear positively.
