When I was young, Dad brought home a dog one day, who was called “Brownie”. My brothers and I all loved Brownie and did different things with her. One of us would walk her, another would feed her, then there were baths, playing catch and many other games. Brownie, in return, loved each and every one of us. One thing that most touched my heart was that she would go to whoever was sick and just be with them. We always felt better when she was around.
One day, as I was getting her food, she chewed up (咬破) one of Dad’s shoes, which had to be thrown away in the end. I knew Dad would be mad and I had to let her know what she did was wrong. When I looked at her and said, “Bad girl,” she looked down at the ground and then went and hid. I saw a tear in her eyes.
Brownie turned out to be more than just our family pet, she went everywhere with us. People would stop and ask if they could pet her. Of course she’d let anyone pet her. She was just the most lovable dog. There were many times when we’d be out walking and a small child would come over and pull her hair. She never barked (吠) or tried to get away. Funny thing is she would smile. This frightened people because they thought she was showing her teeth. Far from the truth, she loved everyone.
Now many years have passed since Brownie died of old age. I still miss days when she was with us.

27.Which of the following best describes Brownie
A.Caring. B.Polite. C.Brave. D.Shy.
When I was 12 years old, I already knew that my teen years were going to be the worst years of my life. I was a total outsider, bullied (欺凌) at school. I felt completely alone in my small town.
But by starting to do volunteer work when I was 14, I turned my problem into a passion for helping others. The opportunity to practice kindness made me feel like my life had a greater purpose. The more positive energy I shared, the more kindness and appreciation I received. I realized that my purpose in life would be to reach out to people, specifically teenagers, and help them feel less alone.
Books were my true friends back then. I was so thankful that the authors wrote those books. The kindness they offered me with their books saved my life. One of my biggest dreams was to become an author so I could write books that would help other teenagers the way those books helped me.
After surviving terrible experiences at school and at home, I made a choice to take the optimistic, positive road in the next steps of my journey. My dream career, one I thought was only possible for the authors I loved, is what I am doing now. I have been a full-time author of teen novels since 2007 and am grateful for this amazing opportunity to reach out to readers every single day.
Kindness saved me when I needed help the most. Even small acts of kindness can change someone’s life. You never know what someone else is going through. But by practicing daily kindness, you become an architect of positive change.
28.What was the author’s life like when he was 12
A.Boring. B.Peaceful. C.Painful. D.Meaningful.
29.How did the volunteer work benefit the author
A.It made him popular in his town. B.It helped him find the meaning of life.
C.It helped him understand others’ lives better. D.It helped to shape his dream career.
30.Why did the author choose writing as his job
A.He was inspired by his teacher. B.He could pass positive energy to readers.
C.He wanted to share his school experiences. D.He found he had a talent for writing.
31.What does the author suggest readers do in the last paragraph
A.Say “no” to bullies bravely. B.Make positive changes in their lives.
C.Treat others with kindness in daily life. D.Learn to care more about others’ feelings.
Three minutes of looking at red light once a week may help our eyesight, new research suggests. The findings show that red light might be a cheap and easy treatment for declines (衰退) in color vision (视力) as we get older.
Last year, researchers from University College London did a study on red light therapy (疗法). 24 healthy volunteers, aged between 28 and 72, were asked to look at red light for three minutes every day for two weeks. Tests later found that the eyesight of people over the age of 40 improved.
To test the possible weak points of their therapy, they did a new study this year. Instead of using the light every day, they used it once a week. The new study included 20 volunteers, aged between 34 and 70, all with healthy vision. Some received red light therapy in the morning, and others received it in the afternoon. They were then tested on their color vision up to a week later.
On the whole, those who got the treatment in the morning showed a 17% improvement in their color vision, even a week later. Those who got the treatment in the afternoon did not have any improvement.
“We’ve found that one single treatment in the morning can greatly improve declining vision.” said lead author Glen Jeffrey.
The findings do support their earlier work, and they might make the treatment more practicable, since a once-weekly treatment is easier to stick to than a daily one. But the team’s promising results are still drawn on small numbers of healthy volunteers Larger studies would be needed to show the help of red light therapy.
“In the near future, a once-a-week three-minute treatment could be done while making a coffee or listening to a song, and such a simple thing could change eye care and vision around the world,” Jeffrey said.
Given its low cost (as little as $15) per machine, and simplicity, the team is excited about the future of their therapy.
32.What plays a key role in red light treatment
A.The time of day for treatment B.The machine used in the treatment.
C.The time that one treatment lasts. D.The number of treatments received.
33.What makes it necessary to improve the study
A.The age of the volunteers. B.The number of the volunteers.
C.The sex of the volunteers. D.The poor vision of the volunteers.
34.What is Jeffrey’s attitude towards the future of the therapy
A.Unclear. B.Doubtful. C.Serious. D.Hopeful.
35.What is the purpose of this text
A.To state the importance of eye care.
B.To explain the value of deep red light.
C.To introduce a way to fight vision decline.
D.To encourage people to protect their eyesight.
We all know that fish tanks bring comfort and peace for adults—or at least, we are in a better mood after staring at our fish for a while. But what about kids 36
Taking care of something that depends on them teaches kids responsibility. It helps them realize that what they do is important and that sometimes things need to get done(like feeding the fish)even when they don't feel like doing it. You can have your child help with cleaning the fish tank. 37 A young child could simply watch and hand you the things you need. Kids in grade school could help clean the outside of the fish tank. Teens could help more with the actual cleaning process.
Keeping a fish tank also has a direct effect on kids' mental health. 38 One study has shown that people feel more relaxed and calmer after watching live fish in a tank for five minutes. Interestingly, studies have also shown that watching fish in a tank helps calm kids. So why not bring that experience to your home
39 One fun part of having a fish tank is choosing from a range of fascinating fish, plants and other decorations. If you can, get kids involved in this process by bringing them along to the fish store with you when you select fish or decorations. You can discuss with your kids about your choices. 40 It might not seem like you're teaching anything—but through these conversations, kids are learning to think creatively. They learn how to select fish for a community tank instead of just picking out a fish because "It's pretty!"
A.Let your kid helpers give their input, too!
B.To add to the benefits, it inspires creativity.
C.Keeping a fish tank brings lots of fun to kids.
D.Are kids able to take good care of a fish tank
E.Give them responsibilities that make sense for their age.
F.Good news is that owning a fish tank for them has many benefits.
G.If you feel better after watching fish, it's not just your imagination!

And you want all your guests to dance after dinner Then don’t book a noisy disco. Have a live band instead. We play all kinds of dance music, including songs that every age group, from teenagers to grandmothers, can dance to.
The band is made up of all sorts of different people. None of us full time musicians. We have a doctor, two English teachers, a retired journalist, and the bandleader owns a hotel. The band has been together for 10 years, but I only joined this year.
Now the number has been increased from 8 to 12. I was looking for a band to join and a friend of mine saw an advertisement in the local paper and persuaded me to apply. Before I joined, the band didn’t have a separate singer, but they realized they needed one. They chose me because I’ve always enjoyed getting up and singing in front of an audience, and people say I’ve got a good voice. I’ve been in bands before. I even played the guitar rather badly in one. But this band is easily the best. I even enjoy the practices. Now I’ll just play a little.

根据第三段“The new study included 20 volunteers, aged between 34 and 70, all with healthy vision. Some received red light therapy in the morning, and others received it in the afternoon. They were then tested on their color vision up to a week later.(这项新研究包括20名年龄在34岁到70岁之间的志愿者,他们都有健康的视力。一些人在早上接受红光治疗,另一些人在下午接受。然后在一周后测试他们的色觉)”以及第四段“On the whole, those who got the treatment in the morning showed a 17% improvement in their color vision, even a week later. Those who got the treatment in the afternoon did not have any improvement.(总的来说,那些在早上接受治疗的人,即使在一周后,他们的色觉也提高了17%。那些在下午接受治疗的人没有任何改善)”可知,研究表明在上午接受红光治疗的志愿者一周后色觉有明显改善,而在下午接受治疗的则没有任何改善。所以在红光疗法中起着关键作用是一天中治疗的时间段。故选A。
根据第六段“But the team’s promising results are still drawn on small numbers of healthy volunteers. Larger studies would be needed to show the benefits of red light therapy.(但该团队的研究结果仍依赖于小部分健康志愿者。需要更大规模的研究来证明红光疗法的好处)”可知,还需要更多的志愿者来证明红光疗法的好处。故选B。
34.推理判断题。根据倒数第二段““In the near future, a once-a-week three-minute exposure to deep red light could be done while making a coffee or listening to a song, and such a simple thing could change eye care and vision around the world,” Jeffrey said.(Jeffrey说道:“在不久的将来,每周一次三分钟的深红光治疗可以在煮咖啡或听歌曲时完成,这样简单的事情可以改变全世界的眼睛保健和视力。”)”
根据第一段“The findings show that red light might be a cheap and easy treatment for declines in color vision as we get older.(研究结果表明,随着年龄的增长,红光可能是一种廉价而简单的治疗色觉下降的方法。)”

But what about kids F项“Good news is that owning a fish tank for them has many benefits.(好消息是,对他们来说,拥有一个鱼缸有很多好处。)”

Kids in grade school could help clean the outside of the fish tank. Teens could help more with the actual cleaning process.(一个小孩子可以简单地看着你,然后把你需要的东西递给你。 可知,空格处的句子应该和给孩子们责任有关,所以,E项“Give them responsibilities that make sense for their age.(给他们一些适合他们年龄的责任。

Interestingly, studies have also shown that watching fish in a tank helps calm kids.(一项研究表明,人们在观看鱼缸里的活鱼五分钟后会感到更放松、更平静。 可知,空格处的句子应该说养鱼对孩子心理健康的作用,所以,G项“If you feel better after watching fish, it's not just your imagination!(如果你看完鱼后感觉好多了,这不仅仅是你的想象!
39.空格处是该段的主题句,根据下文的内容“One fun part of having a fish tank is choosing from a range of fascinating fish, plants and other decorations. If you can, get kids involved in this process by bringing them along to the fish store with you when you select fish or decorations. You can discuss with your kids about your choices.(拥有一个鱼缸的一个有趣的部分是从一系列迷人的鱼,植物和其他装饰品中选择。如果可以的话,让孩子们参与到这个过程中来,当你选择鱼或装饰品的时候,带他们一起去鱼店。你可以和你的孩子讨论你的选择。)”可知,此处是说,应该让孩子参与选择鱼或者装饰品的过程,所以,A项“Let your kid helpers give their input, too!(让你的孩子帮手也提供他们的意见!)” 故选A项。
40.根据空格后的句子“It might not seem like you're teaching anything—but through these conversations, kids are learning to think creatively.(这看起来好像你没有教什么,但是通过这些对话,孩子们正在学习创造性地思考。)”可知,空格处的句子应该涉及到“养鱼有助于培养孩子的创造性”,所以,B项“To add to the benefits, it inspires creativity.(除此之外,它还能激发创造力。)”

81.Dear Tom,
I understand that you’re feeling anxious about starting high school and worried about whether you'll fit in or not. Please don’t feel too stressed out; almost everyone feels the same way when going through such a transition.
To help you manage the pressure, here are some suggestions. Firstly, take the initiative to introduce yourself to new classmates and teachers. Being proactive can help you build friendships faster. Secondly, join clubs or sports teams that interest you, which not only enriches your life but also provides a platform where you can meet people who share similar interests. Lastly, remember that it’s okay to ask for help if you feel overwhelmed.
I truly believe that you will adapt quickly and enjoy your time in high school. Looking forward to hearing about your new experiences.
Yours,
Li Hua
