From the age of 6,Samirah Horton was bullied by her classmates for the things that made her different — her size and her sharp voice.Rather than giving up,Horton decided to pick up a microphone and make sure other children knew they weren’t alone.“I didn’t want other kids to go through that experience,” says Horton,“especially at a very young age.” Now,alongside attending eighth grade classes, she’s also building an anti-bullying platform to reach students across the country.
For as long as Horton can remember, she’s felt a special connection with music. She remembers her mother always having the radio on,and her father teaching her how to deejay(主持音乐节目).Music gives her unlimited power to do the duty.“It’s music that fuels my mission, allowing me to spread this important message,” she says. Now as the Kid DJ for her hometown team, you can hear anything from the hip-hop classics to songs of her own, including the anti-bullying song “No You Won’t Bully Me”.
Her message has reached beyond the DJ set.At 8,Horton turned one of her songs into a 26-page picture book, which has reached thousands of people across America. In the book, she references the over 160,000 students who miss school daily for fear of being bullied.
Horton isn’t sure exactly what the future holds, but for now, she’s positive about leading her school’s student government.“I don’t know exactly what I’ll be doing, but I know I’ll be making a positive influence on the world,” she says. She’s already on her way,but her biggest achievement in her own eyes is persuading others not to doubt themselves along the way.“Don’t care what anybody tells you,” she says.“You are never too young to make a change.”

Scientists have discovered a new and renewable source of water on the moon for future explorers in lunar samples from a Chinese mission.
Water was stored in tiny glass beads(珠子) in the lunar dirt where meteorite(陨石) impacts occur. These shiny, multicolored glass beads were in samples returned from the moon by China in 2020.The beads range in size from the width of one hair to several hairs;the water content was just a very small part of that, according to Hui Hejiu of Nanjing University, who took part in the study.
Since there are billions if not trillions of these impact beads, that could amount to substantial amounts of water, but mining it would be tough, according to the team.“Yes,it will require lots and lots of glass beads. There are lots and lots of beads on the moon,” said Hui in an email.
“These beads could continually yield water thanks to the constant bombardment by hydrogen in the solar wind. The findings are based on 32 glass beads randomly selected from lunar dirt returned from the Chang’e 5 moon mission. Therefore, more samples will be studied,” said Hui.
These impact beads are everywhere, the result of the cooling of melted material pushed out by incoming space rocks.Water could be got by heating the beads, possibly by future robotic missions.“More studies are needed to determine whether this would be feasible and,if so,whether the water would be safe to drink. This shows water can be recharged on the moon’s surface...a new water reservoir on the moon,” said Hui.
Previous studies found water in glass beads formed by lunar volcanic activities, based on samples returned by the Apollo moonwalkers more than a half-century ago. These, too, could provide water not only for use by future crews, but for rocket fuel.
8.Why is it tough to collect water from the glass beads on the moon
A.The temperature of the beads is high.
B.The beads are extremely tough to break.
C.The beads are so tiny that they are invisible.
D.The beads contain only a tiny amount of water.
9.Why are glass beads constantly producing water
A.Because of the continuous bombardment by hydrogen from the solar wind.
B.Because of the huge number of glass beads on the moon.
C.Because of the influence of meteorite.
D.Because of glass beads getting hot.
10.What does Hui intend to express in paragraph 5
A.Researchers must conduct further investigations about water on the moon.
B.The moon’s water resources should be used to create electrical energy.
C.The water on the moon could be accessible to explorers someday.
D.The moon’s water is collected in a reservoir.
11.Which title fits the passage best
A.Scientists Carried out an Investigation about Water on the Moon
B.China Achieved Lunar Sample Collection Successfully
C.Glass Beads Could Serve as Water Storage Containers
D.Scientists Has Found Water in Lunar Glass Beads

In recent years, scientists have become aware of new problems associated with the mass production of microplastics, which can now be found on every part of the earth, including inside almost every person on the planet.Part of the problem is the difficulty and expense involved in recycling plastics, which makes it easier to throw them in the trash or the ocean. In a new study, the researchers in Switzerland have developed a way to break down plastics into their monomer(单体) substances, allowing for much easier and cheaper recycling.
Plastics are substances made up of large molecules(分子),which consist of smaller subunits called monomers. They are formed using a process called polymerization, which in essence combines the monomers into a single substance, namely plastic.Pulling them apart again has proven to be difficult and expensive, until now.
The new process involves placing the plastic substances in a chemical liquid and then shining a violet light on it as reactions in the liquid take place — no substance that promotes reactions is needed. The only caveats are that conditions in the container must be kept above 90℃,and the light must remain on the whole time.Once finished, the result is a container filled with monomers and other chemicals, which can be easily separated and recycled.
The technique was discovered by accident,so the team sought to explain why it worked so well. They found that the chemical, when exposed to the plastic substance, produced chlorine radicals(氯自由基) under the light. The radicals then pulled hydrogen atoms from seemingly random parts of the plastic substance backbone, causing it to break.Even better, when it broke,a new radical was formed, kicking off more reactions.
The researchers acknowledge that the reaction is slow, but also note that it has high output and that it is simple, easy and inexpensive to conduct. They suggest it could transform the recycling of plastics around the world.
12.What is the function of paragraph 2
A.To compare old and new recycling methods.
B.To stress the urgency of preventing plastic pollution.
C.To show the complexity of the new plastic-recycling tech.
D.To provide plastic knowledge for the new recycling method.
13.What does the underlined word “caveats” in paragraph 3 probably mean
A.Results.
B.Requirements.
C.Advantages.
D.Barriers.
14.What might the follow-up study focus on
A.Speeding the reactions in the liquid.
B.Reducing operating costs in the process.
C.Raising people’s awareness of recycling.
D.Increasing the temperatures in the container.
15.Which of the following serves as the best title for the text

B.Microplastics:Bad to Worse
C.Plastic Recycling’s Old Problems
D.Breakthrough:Plastic to Monomers

Birthdays are a major occasion to celebrate. 16 Research shows celebrating small moments boosts self-confidence,fosters gratitude, and increases your sense of well-being.Here’s how to get started.
First, think about what you’d like to celebrate. It can be a recent milestone,or you can start planning to celebrate a special moment that’s coming up in the future. 17 For example, maybe you did better than you expected on a difficult test.Perhaps you tried something brand-new,like participating in the county spelling bee.
18 Was it a parent, coach,or teacher Who cheered you on and encouraged you You could send them a note to thank them or share a photo of your recent success to make them smile. If you decide to have a celebration, talk to your family about inviting close relatives to share in the festivities with you.
Your celebration can be as simple as doing something together with your family, like having a favorite dinner at home. 19 You could have a special cake with writing in icing on top that recognizes your milestone, whatever it may be.Something simple — like “Way to go!” — covers almost any achievement.Be sure to take plenty of pictures to remember this day.
One of the best ways to appreciate what you’ve accomplished is to give back.If you have achieved a personal goal or completed a big project, you can use the knowledge you’ve gained to help others. For example,if you worked up the courage to audition for the school play, you could help a nervous friend understand what the audition process is like and help them prepare better. 20
A.Reflect on any achievements in and out of school.
B.But there’s also joy in recognizing life’s smaller moments.
C.Celebrate the highlights of your school life with these ideas.
D.If they live far away, you can set up a video call with them to catch up.
E.If you’d like to have a small party, talk to your family about the date and a guest list.
F.You could also use skills you learned to support a community project like a food drive.
G.Think about who helped you achieve your milestone or supported you all along the way.
