In 2014, I was looking through a Facebook group when I saw a post about $200 roundtrip tickets to Dubai. It was so cheap that I booked it right away. It was my first solo (独自) trip, and I had no idea it would be so hard especially for a girl with little experience travelling abroad.
When I landed in Dubai, my suitcase was gone. I felt scared at the baggage claim (行李提取处) as the belt for bags emptied. I could hardly speak Arabic, and the airport workers didn’t know much English. After an hour of using hand signs, I got a number to check on it and a “we’ll try” to find it. With only my backpack, I went to my hotel, feeling lost and alone. That night, I almost booked a flight home. But I thought: This is why I came — to get through hard times.
The next day, I still went out to look around. I wanted to see the Burj Khalifa but got lost on the subway. I got off at the wrong stop. I walked for 45 minutes, my phone dying and the sun hot, until I found a cafe with free Wi-Fi. I planned a new way and finally got to the Burj Khalifa. I was sweaty and tired, but I felt proud — I fixed the problem alone.
Later that week, I joined travel group members for a boat ride on the Persian Gulf. It was outside my comfort zone, but that’s what I needed! I made great friends. On day three, my hotel called — they found my suitcase. It was a small win, but it meant everything.
Dubai changed me. I learned to trust my skills. I saw that strangers are just friends you haven’t met. Most of all, I found my suitcase felt lighter without fear — and I’d already lived without it.
This year, I took a solo trip to Thailand. It was the best. I’ll plan more solo trips to keep testing myself.
24.What can we infer about the author before the Dubai trip
A.She never traveled alone. B.She was an expert in Arabic.
C.She had no travel experience. D.She planned to live in Dubai.
25.Why did the author refuse to go home immediately
A.The hotel promised to help her. B.Her suitcase was found quickly.
C.She wanted to challenge herself. D.She failed to book a return flight.
26.What does the author’s experience of finding the Burj Khalifa suggest
A.She was good at asking for help. B.She gave up easily when in trouble.
C.She could solve problems independently. D.She relied on others to overcome difficulties.
27.Why did the author say her suitcase “felt lighter without fear”
A.She hid her worry. B.She beat her inner fear.
C.The suitcase was empty. D.Others carried it for her.
Machu Picchu, often called “The Lost City of the Incas,” is one of the world’s most famous ancient places. It lies high in the Andes Mountains of Peru, at about 2,430 meters above sea level. The air is thin here, but the views of nearby mountain tops and cloud forests are amazing. That’s why it’s a top destination for travelers and history lovers.
The Inca Empire built this famous city around the 15th century, when Emperor Pachacuti ruled. They chose its location on purpose: it fitted well with nature. The mountains helped keep enemies away. For hundreds of years, Machu Picchu stayed hidden from the rest of the world. It was in a remote area with thick plants, so most maps didn’t show it. This kept its mystery (神秘) alive.
Everything changed in 1911. American explorer Hiram Bingham found Machu Picchu by chance. He was originally (起初) looking for another Inca site, but with help from local Quechua guides, he found this “Lost City” instead. This discovery made Machu Picchu famous worldwide. People saw how great Inca engineering and culture were.
Machu Picchu’s architecture is very impressive. It shows the Incas’ advanced building skills. Unlike many old structures, it had no mortar (泥浆). Inca builders cut stones so carefully that they fit together perfectly. Historians think it might have been a royal home or a religious center, but no one knows for sure. Today, its beauty and rich history bring over a million visitors each year.
But this popularity also brings problems. Too many tourists harm the old structures. Natural disasters — made worse by climate change — also put the place in danger. To protect Machu Picchu, Peruvian leaders have taken actions. They limit daily visitors to about 2,500, set fixed paths, and run projects to keep it in good shape. Local communities also help by doing environmentally-friendly tourism work. Their goal is to keep this treasure safe for future people.
28.Why is Machu Picchu popular with travelers
A.It’s easy to reach. B.The air is thin there. C.It’s a new destination. D.It has wonderful views.
29.What shows the Incas’ advanced building skills in Machu Picchu
A.Using little mortar. B.Stones fitting perfectly.
C.High building position. D.Having light structures.
30.What is the author’s attitude towards Machu Picchu’s popularity
A.Interested but doubtful. B.Fully supportive.
C.Completely negative. D.Positive but worried.
31.What is the main purpose of the Peruvian leaders’ actions
A.To earn more money from tourism. B.To make Machu Picchu more popular.
C.To reduce harm to the ancient structures. D.To change the location of Machu Picchu.
Today, teens live in a world with lots of social time and online connections. But many face a hidden challenge: social anxiety. According to a recent survey from the American Psychological Association, nearly 30% of teens have big social anxiety problems. This number is 15% higher than 10 years ago. Psychologists (心理学家) and teachers are worried because it hurts teens’ mental (心理的) health.
To see how serious this is, we need to know how it shows up. Teens with anxiety may get very nervous talking to friends, joining groups, or speaking in class. Far more common than most parents and teachers realize, social anxiety can break teens’ daily lives, from skipping lunch with classmates to avoiding out-of-class clubs. This can influence their feelings and stop them from making friends.
One big reason for teen social anxiety is the stress from social media. Teens often look at others’ perfect online posts — good grades, fun parties, or nice moments. They compare their own lives to these and worry, “Am I good enough ” They fear others will look down on them. This makes them feel unsure, even in real-life talks.
Social anxiety harms teens in many ways. They might not join activities they like, limiting (限制) their social growth. Over time, they feel bad about themselves. They might avoid asking questions in class, which makes it harder for them to learn and finally influences their school performance.
However, there are ways to help. Parents and teachers can make a kind environment. They should let teens talk about their feelings and praise small tries like saying hi to a classmate. Teens can also take small steps — like a short chat with someone or going to one club meeting-to feel more confident.
It’s a fact that social anxiety is a big problem for many teens, but it’s not impossible to handle. With care and help, teens can learn to manage it and grow into confident teens who enjoy social time.
32.What can we learn about teen social anxiety from the survey
A.It’s getting more common. B.It affects 15% of teens now.
C.It only harms mental health. D.It’s ignored by psychologists.
33.What does the underlined word “skipping”in paragraph 2 probably mean
A.Having. B.Missing. C.Preparing. D.Sharing.
34.What is paragraph 4 mainly about
A.Teens’ ways to grow socially. B.Teens’ self-doubt in daily life.
C.The bad effects of social anxiety. D.The way to improve school grades.
35.What does the text suggest parents do to help teens with social anxiety
A.Encourage teens’ small social efforts. B.Push teens to join in many social events.
C.Ask teachers to provide professional help. D.Advise teens to face social challenges alone.

A Memorable Trip in Chiang Mai
Last summer vacation, my family and I went to Chiang Mai, Thailand. The city’s colorful temples and busy night markets surprised us. On the third day, I wanted to visit a small village by myself. I took a tuk-tuk to get there, but after walking around the rice fields, I found I was lost. The sun was going down, and I couldn’t see any signs I knew. I felt worried and a little scared, because I didn’t speak much Thai.
Just when I was almost crying, an old woman with a big smile came to me. She had a basket of fresh mangoes. We could only talk with simple English words and hand movements, but she understood my problem. She took my hand and led me to her small wooden house nearby. Her family was nice to me. They gave me sweet mango sticky rice and cold coconut water. I learned they grew fruits and vegetables in their garden, and they told me stories about their daily life.
Time passed quickly, and it got dark. The old woman’s son said he could drive me back to my hotel. On the way, I looked at the bright stars and the quiet countryside. I felt very warm in my heart. This unexpected thing made my trip more special than any famous places.
When we got to the hotel, I tried to give them some money to say thanks, but they said no politely. The old woman patted my shoulder and said, “Friendship is more valuable than money.” I nodded, too moved to speak. I hugged her softly and said I would visit them again someday.

Today, I will tell you about a very talented author called Janice. She wrote her first book when she was 22. A year later, she wrote two more books. She is now 25 and she has just finished her seventh book!
Yesterday afternoon, I interviewed her at the Regent’s Cafe near her hotel. I asked Janice what she was like as a student. She said she was good at history and English. She also liked writing stories. When she finished school, she got a job as a computer salesgirl, but she didn’t enjoy it. Then she got a job as a tour guide. After that, she worked in an architect’s office, but she was bored there. She wrote short stories in the evenings, for fun. She read the stories to her little cousins and they loved them. Then she wrote her first book, The Lonely Tree. Children loved this wonderful adventure novel, and adults loved it too. Her second book was a novel about science. Now Janice wants to write a historical novel about Spain in 1492.

Dear Peter,
I’m so excited to learn that you’re coming to China next month! I strongly recommend you visit Xi’an, one of China’s most historic cities.
Xi’an is well worth visiting for several reasons. First, it’s home to the Terracotta Army, a world-famous cultural relic that shows ancient China’s great civilization. Second, the city has a long history of over 3,000 years, and you can walk on the ancient city wall to feel its past glory. Besides, Xi’an’s local food like noodles and dumplings is delicious and not to be missed.
Here are some useful tips: book tickets for the Terracotta Army online in advance, as it’s always crowded. Also, remember to respect local customs when visiting temples.
Looking forward to hearing about your trip plans!
Yours,
Li Hua
67.例文
The next morning, I went to the village with a box of Chinese tea as a gift. I had prepared it the night before, thinking it could show my true thanks. When the old woman saw me, her eyes lit up with joy. We sat in her garden, drinking tea slowly and talking happily. She taught me how to make traditional Thai flower rings, and I taught her some easy Chinese words like “hello” and “thank you”. It felt like we had known each other for a long time, not just two people from different countries.
When it was getting dark, I left her home with great satisfaction. This trip to Chiang Mai taught me a valuable lesson. Not only do the beautiful views make the trip unforgettable, but also the kind people we meet and the small, warm moments we share. No matter how different our languages or cultures are, kindness can always connect us like a bridge. I will keep this memory in my heart forever, and I hope to be kind to others in my life, just like the old woman and her family were to me.
