In the UK, children can do part-time work only when they reach the age of 13. Many children do part-time jobs before or after school and at the weekend. The most common jobs are babysitting (taking care of babies) and paper rounds (sending newspapers to people’s homes). Cleaning and working in a shop are also popular jobs.
Students can work for less than two hours every weekday and on Sunday. If they want to work on Saturday or during school holidays, the number of working hours depends on their ages. And they cannot work before 7 a.m. or after 7 p.m. (but babysitters can work later).
Properly regulated (规范的) part-time work is a good way to help students learn skills and teach them how to work with other people and manage their money.

I am Paula White. I want to tell you a story about beautiful paintings. My dad is an archaeologist (考古学家). Last year, he visited Spain. There is a lot of work for an archaeologist in Spain because it has many examples of how people lived in the past. My dad went to the Altamira Caves. The caves are famous because archaeologists discovered the first cave paintings there in 1895. My dad says that in the past, people used art to tell stories. They didn’t write like we do.
The paintings are over 14,000 years old. Many of the paintings on the cave walls show animals and people hunting. In one cave, a really big painting showed a bison (a type of animal). We think the paintings tell the story of how people hunted.
There were no paintbrushes then so the cavemen painted by using sticks, leaves or animal hair!
When I grow up, I want to be an archaeologist like my father. Because he has a very special and interesting job!

Dear Mr. Lincoln,
I would like to get the job of Study Abroad Advisor at University of Oxford.
First of all, I have some personal experience in this field. When I was twenty, I set out to join a six-month study abroad programme and it changed my life. I can speak German very well besides English and French. And I love to encourage others to travel and learn about other cultures.
What’s more, I work hard and I have spent the past two years working in a small company helping high school students to study abroad, so I think that I can do this job well. At my last job, I came up with some useful ideas for the team. That made us win the first prize. For another, I also helped find host families for students in my free time.
All in all, I’m looking forward to working with you and improving myself in the future. Please consider me for the job.
Yours sincerely,
Joe Smith

13-year-old Chen Yu lives in Xiushan, Chongqing. Her grandma is a master (行家) of Xiushan Miao Embroidery (苗绣), a traditional craft of the Miao people. Every evening, Yu sees grandma sit by the lamp, stitching (绣) patterns of flowers and birds on cloth with colorful threads (线).
Yu once thought the embroidery was old-fashioned. But last month, her school held a “Chongqing Intangible Cultural Heritage” fair (展会). Grandma took her to the fair and showed her Miao embroidery works—some made into small purses, others into beautiful wall hangings. When you travel in Chengdu, don’t forget to watch the wonderful face-changing at the local tea houses. How much do you know about this traditional skill Let’s learn something about it.
Face-changing is a special skill in Sichuan Opera. There are different characters in the play. It is also a wonderful way to show their feelings and thoughts.
It is believed that the skill of face-changing started from ancient times. To scare away the dangerous animals, people made themselves look scary. Later, during the Qing Dynasty (清朝), it became a famous art form and popular in Sichuan, Chongqing, and some parts of Yunnan and Guizhou. Now it is still well-liked by local people in the southwest of China. Especially, many foreigners come to enjoy it.
Most people just know three kinds of skills of face-changing: wiping the face (抹脸), blowing the face and pulling the face (扯脸). However, few people know breathing (呼吸).
The skill pulling the face is very difficult. Under the cover of the dancing movements, the actor pulls each piece of the facial makeups which is tied with a thin thread (线). The actor must do the performance with much care and finish them in a very short time. This skill master Peng Denghuai changed 14 masks in 25 seconds. Chinese people like the red colour a lot. Even now, Chinese people like to call ourselves Chizi, meaning the red descendant (子孙).
Red represents the motherland and authority (权威). Official uniforms of the Tang dynasty were red. In the Qing dynasty, red was used on official caps to show different rankings (等级). As we know, the Five-starred Red Flag was first raised on October 1st, 1949. Even nowadays, headlines of official documents (文件) are painted in red. This is why they are called red-head documents.
For ordinary people, red stands for happiness. For example, “double happiness” used for weddings is red. The bride (新娘) wears red clothes which are different from the white gowns of the West. During the Chinese Spring Festival, people will give red packets to the children to express good wishes. Couplets (对联) hanging on both sides of the doors are written in red. The word red equals beauty. The expression hongyan, meaning red colour, is a synonym (代名词) of a beautiful girl. Red is also one of the most popular words used in the names of Chinese women. But in traffic lights, red means stop driving.

In the first lesson, the coach said, “Rock climbing needs strength, speed, courage and persistence (坚持). All these are necessary.” But in Bob’s opinion, rock climbing was just a fun activity. It interested him.
During the following classes, the coach asked the students to run 1,000 metres first, and then climb with a rope. Recently, I started to use an app to keep a record of my running. Each run I wanted to go a little farther, run a little faster and burn more calories (卡路里). Last night I finished an 8.3 km run in 46 minutes and burnt 468 calories. In comparison, my run two days ago was 8.6 km in 46 minutes with 483 calories burnt. This inner self-comparison left me feeling disappointed. I became so focused (专注的) on the numbers that I forgot to consider what I achieved.
These tiny differences in numbers kept me away from the bigger picture: how did I actually feel after completing my most recent run Well, honestly, I was completely tired out. What good is running to beat your top score if you don’t feel on top
We should exercise for the purpose of building our confidence. And working out harder and faster may serve that purpose. But confidence building comes with being able to do more in our day-to-day life, experiencing less pain and more freedom in movement, and feeling good after a workout. Fitness should help us with our quality (质量) of life, the ability to sleep, good memory, among other things. Fitness should not just come with the eagerness for the success in numbers.
In our busy lives, we only have limited time for fitness. When we do physical exercise, we should value what feels good over what looks or sounds good. Sometimes what serves us and our health is coming home and doing a light workout, like going on a short bike ride. Sometimes what serves us is simply going to sleep at 9:30 p.m. instead of forcing ourselves into a workout. Apps of this kind are a great way for us to keep an eye on our health. But don’t read into the numbers to the point where you lose out on feeling proud that you are taking care of yourself. So my advice is: when you do physical exercise, make sure you feel good about yourself over feeling good about the numbers.
74.Why did the writer start to use the app
75.What did the writer forget to consider when he became too focused on the numbers
76.According to the writer, what should be our purpose of doing exercise
77.When you do physical exercise, which do you think is more important, feeling good about yourself or feeling good about the numbers Why Write 30 words or more.

Skateboarding is becoming a popular hobby now. All you need is a skateboard-a flat board with four small wheels under it. You can ride it in open spaces, on quiet streets or in special skate parks. It’s not just about moving fast; it’s also about using cool skills, like jumping a little or spinning (旋转) the board.
Learning to skateboard takes time and practice. At first, you might feel afraid and even fall a few times. But don’t worry—wearing a helmet (头盔) can keep you safe. You can start by learning to stand on the board, then slowly push with one foot to move. As you get better, you can try different skills with friends, which makes it even more fun.

If you walk through a park in the morning or evening, you might see people doing slow and beautiful movements—Carry the Tiger over the Mountain and White Crane Spreading Its Wings. In fact, they are practicing Taichi (太极).
Taichi is an ancient art and a common exercise in China. It started in Henan Province in the mid-17th century (世纪). Now it has spread (传播) to over 150 countries and more than 100 million people practice it.
Doing Taichi is good for health, because it makes us move more freely and become stronger. When doing slow movements, we focus on our hands and feet, controlling them better. Slow movements also help us take deep breaths.
Marleni Calcina, a doctor from Peru, thinks Taichi is good for health. She has practiced it for over 10 years, seeing it as a way of life. Taichi taught her the value of “going slowly”. When she felt stressed, she found peace through Taichi. “Practicing Taichi is like speaking with my soul,” she said.

In many Chinese cities, primary and middle schools have made class breaks longer from 10 to 15 minutes since the fall semester (学期) started. The governments (政府) want students and teachers to do more outdoor activities.
Before, Chinese schools usually had 10-minute breaks. But it was not enough time for students, especially those in tall buildings, to go outside and play. Sometimes, schools didn’t let students leave the classroom during breaks because they were worried about safety.
Now, local education departments (部门) are trying to make school schedules better. They want students to have at least 30 minutes of exercise every day.
In Beijing, primary schools’ morning and afternoon times haven’t changed. Middle schools end five minutes later.
In Wuxi, Jiangsu, schools have 15-minute breaks and one PE class every day. Students must do at least 100 minutes of exercise at school. The education officer said this helps students play outside and talk to each other. They want to give break time back to students.
A Qingdao primary school has many outdoor games like jump rope and hula hoop, and indoor puzzles during 15-minute breaks. In May, a fitness test showed that 47 percent of Qingdao students got “excellent” or “good” fitness grades, 10 percent more than before.
