The Great Wall explorer
William Lindesay is a British man who loves the Great Wall with all his heart.
Lindesay took an interest in the Great Wall when he first saw it on a map in 1967. He loved it so much that he wanted to travel from one end of the Great Wall to the other end. But he was told that it was too difficult to achieve. In 1987, Lindesay came to China, and he spent 78 days running 2,470 kilometres along the Great Wall. He even discovered an unknown section of the Great Wall which is located in the Gobi Desert of Mongolia.
This experience inspired Lindesay to do more for the Great Wall. In 1998, he launched an activity. He led 120 volunteers in picking up rubbish along the Great Wall. To make a bigger difference, he set up an organization to protect the Great Wall in 2001.
For his hard work, Lindesay was given the Great Wall Friendship Award in 2008. He hopes more people can play a part in protecting the ancient treasure. William Lindesay is an excellent Great Wall explorer and protector!
