This year marks the 130th anniversary (周年) of Xu Beihong’s birth. Born in 1895 in Jiangsu province, Xu was one of the “fathers of modern Chinese art”.
Xu started learning Chinese painting when he was 9 years old. In 1919, he went to Paris to study sketching (素描) and learned about Western art. He worked hard to mix Chinese and Western art styles.
