Step5 Reflection
This lesson is a reading lesson, the theme is "Describe people of achievement", the text is a special news report about Tu Youyou winning the Nobel Prize. The guide part of this course focuses on the introduction of scenarios in the context of the theme, the sorting of text structure and discourse structure in the process, and guiding students to sort and sort information through the progressive question setting. The course presents the process of Tu Youyou and her team discovering and extracting artemisinin to treat malaria and the reasons for her and her team's success in the form of diagrams. It has carried out the classroom teaching idea of integrating reading and thinking, organically integrated language learning, cultural penetration and thinking improvement, and fully embodied the compiling concept of new textbooks and the direction of English teaching reform. In this process, students can also feel the hardships and greatness of Tu Youyou and her team, understand the outstanding contribution and value of traditional Chinese medicine to human health and the development of the world, and then self-reflect, and make future career and life plans for becoming a "valuable person".
Shortcomings of this class: Due to the lack of vocabulary reserve, some students' oral expression is not smooth enough, and the discussion takes up too much time. In addition, students' knowledge is narrow and they know little about artemisinin extraction process, which makes reading articles time-consuming and difficult.
Improvement measures: Usually pay attention to the expansion of knowledge, the accumulation of topic vocabulary, encourage students to actively express, and set aside enough class time for them to show.
IX. Blackboard Layout
What kind of person makes great discoveries
Find supporting evidence based on the descriptive words.
Ⅹ. Overall Rationale
My teaching belief is that the teaching concept of reading and thinking in the new textbooks of high school English should reflect the characteristics of student-centered, thinking training and all-round development. Learning takes place in a class where a teacher knows his/her students and enables them to negotiate meaning, construct and integrate different kinds of knowledge. Dynamic information processing helps students to activate their cognitive schema for a news report, facilitating their learning. I design some activities to meet these requirements:
About Student-centered:
I give students the initiative in class and encourage them to actively participate in reading and thinking activities. By designing questions and tasks, students are guided to actively explore knowledge and cultivate their independent learning ability.
About Focus on thinking training:
In my opinion, reading and thinking course should focus on cultivating students' thinking ability. So, in the teaching process, I guide students to think deeply and cultivate their critical thinking and innovation ability by designing question chains, discussions and speeches, such as the question “What kind of person makes great discoveries ”,“What kind of person is Tu Youyou according to her quote ”and so on, in order to cultivate their creative thinking and sublimating the cognition of the subject context, improving their reading ability.
About using diversified teaching methods:
In class, I adopt a variety of teaching methods, such as group cooperation, discussion, personal showing etc., to stimulate students' interest in learning and improve the teaching effect. At the same time, I make use of multimedia and information resources to broaden students' learning channels and enrich teaching content.
About focusing on emotional value development:
Reading and thinking courses not only pay attention to students' knowledge mastery, but also pay attention to their emotional development. In the teaching process, I encourage my students to learn and conclude the great qualities about Tu Youyou and call on them to regard the scientist as good example to arouse students’ awareness of devotion and cooperation. What’s more, I try my best to establish a positive learning attitude and values.
Lastly, summary is a good way to consolidate and improve their inductive abilities, promoting their rote learning ability. Homework is indispensable when they transfer what they have learned to make a news report with the appropriate structure and language.
