A
Is there any truth behind the saying “You are what you eat”? We put this to the test by asking three people to open their fridge doors and talk about their lifestyles.
Jenny, 31, Teacher
My husband and I avoid all products that come from animals. This means we don’t eat meat. We like cooking at home and make our meals from fresh, seasonal fruit and vegetables. Cooking together gives us a chance to relax and catch up on each other’s days. If we have children, I want to bring them up just like us. But my husband says that everyone should be able to make their own lifestyle choices.

Ted, 35, Construction worker
Each day at the construction site is more or less the same—tiring! When I get back home, there’s nothing more satisfying than a big meat dinner. I guess I’ve always been a big meat eater and in this house, no family meal is complete without some form of meat. I still don’t think that anything can beat my mum’s homemade sausages, though.
Mike, 49, Chef
With five children, we’re one big family! My wife and I both work full-time, so life can get pretty busy! Like a lot of chefs I know, I don’t really do much cooking at home. Sometimes I bring home food from the restaurant where I work. Once a week, we do a big shop and buy a lot of frozen food. I know we should eat more fresh fruit and vegetables, but ready meals are so convenient.

When eating, the rice is separated into your own personal bowl, but the dishes are placed in communal bowls in the centre of the table and everybody helps themselves with chopsticks. It’s considered polite, and sign of respect and friendship, to encourage other people to eat plenty of the good bits, even to pick up food with your chopsticks and drop it into their rice bowls for them.

Food is an important component of weddings, funerals and almost all Chinese festivals. New Year is the time for dumplings; the Dragon Boat Festival is the time for sticky rice zongzi wrapped in leaves, and the Mid-Autumn Festival is the time for mooncakes. The dinner table is the best forum(讨论会) to close business deals, and it’s the number one thing to do with friends.
Chinese women express their admiration for the opposite sex by cooking delicious meals of many courses, and these days it’s the other way round, too.

A. The pizza box has changed over time.
B. Pizza wasn’t always put in square cardboard boxes.

D. Pizza boxes are designed to be square for the benefit of deliverymen.
E. If the boxes are piled vertically(垂直地), pizzas run the risk of rolling out of place.

G. Although all the designs were claimed to keep pizzas warmer and crispier, none have become widespread.

If you’re like most people, you’re too busy eating pizza to stop and consider how it arrived on your kitchen counter. 1 So why don’t pizzas arrive in round cardboard boxes?
It’s mostly because the pizza industry doesn’t really care to bother the cardboard industry. 2 That’s because they can be made in one piece as well as neatly piled.
The advantage of making a round pizza box would mainly be aesthetic. But it’s not going to save space over an edged box. 3 It’s just bad pizza management.

4 In the 1800s, street sellers carried pies in portable metal containers that kept them warm. When pizza started rising in popularity in post-war America, pizzerias used a single piece of cardboard as support and then slipped the pie into a paper bag. Eventually, corrugated cardboard(瓦楞纸板) kept a fine balance between retaining heat without trapping too much moisture.
Will we ever see a radical rethink of the pizza box? Some people have tried. In 2010, Apple filed for a patent for a round pizza container with holes so moisture can escape. It’s used in the company’s food courts. Another company, World Centric, designed a compostable round box in 2018 that can be used to reheat pizza. A similar product was test-marketed by Pizza Hut in 2019. 5 .

中的前半句“Think it long enough, though”体现了与上文 的转折关系,后半句“you may wonder why pies usually come in square boxes”引出下 文的“为什么比萨饼盒不是圆形的”这一话题。
I
II
解析:根据空后一句“In the 1800s, street sellers carried pies in portable metal containers that kept them warm.”可知,19世纪的街头小贩曾将比萨饼装在便携的金属 容器中,再根据空后第二句“When pizza started rising in popularity... slipped the pie into a paper bag.”
