When the midday nap(午睡) bell rings, Geng Xian and his classmates from Nanshan Foreign Language (Group) Kehua School in Shenzhen pull out footrests(搁脚板),recline(靠) on their chairs and lie back for a nap. Since May 6,the school has introduced reclining chairs for students to nap during the lunch break. Students in four grades are provided such chairs.
“Before this, I could only rest at my desk for a nap, often leading to numb(麻的) hands and a stiff(僵硬的) neck. Sometimes I even found myself pressing my eyes against my arms, causing discomfort,” the 15-year-old Geng said. “Now,I feel great when lying down for sleep, just like being at home.”
For Wang Tingnuo, lying down to nap has made her more eager to rest. “I used to nap for about 20 minutes at most before we got up. Now I choose to sleep 10 to 20 minutes earlier with the reclining chair,” said the 15-year-old girl. She added that the longer sleep time also helps her do better in her afternoon studies.
However, there are worries about the reclining chairs. “Some students might recline on the chair even during class,so it needs effective management,” Chu Peilu, an English teacher said. “But I think it brings more good than bad.”
All in all, lying down for a nap offers physical and mental benefits(益处). It can relax the muscles(肌肉) and improve blood flow to the brain. If such chairs can be provided for more students, it must be a piece of good news for them.
( D )1.Where does Geng Xian study?
A.In Beijing. B.In Shanghai.
C.In Xiamen. D.In Shenzhen.
( C )2.What can we know from Paragraph 2?
A.Geng isn’t used to the new chair.
B.Geng used to nap for a long time at his desk.
C.Geng thinks using such a chair is quite comfortable.
D.Geng is worried that using the new chair may affect his study.
( C )3.What does the underlined word “eager” in Paragraph 3 mean?

( A )4.Which of the following is TRUE according to the text?
A.The writer thinks such chairs are good for students.
B.Wang Tingnuo now naps for about twenty minutes now.
C.The teacher doesn’t hope such chairs are used at school.
D.All the students in Geng’s school are provided such chairs.

A.We may dream about cities with only walkers.
B.Underground roads can free up space for public places.
C.This is quite good news for a world without enough energy.
D.That’s not the only problem that may come with underground roads.
E.Underground roads can be safer when natural disasters happen.
F.So how might underground roads change our cities and ways of transport?
Can you imagine living in a city without roads on the surface? We’ve already put trains underground successfully. Now the idea of building roads underground is inspiring city planners and engineers. Bradley Garrett, writer of Subterranean London, says that there’s something magical about things happening around. 1. F
“If you want to make the city center more active, you leave only people on the roads,” says Tom Ireland, the director of underground roads. 2. B It’s good for the city environment and the health of people. Not only that,it could also reduce traffic jams above ground. Who doesn’t want to be freed from noise pollution and heavy traffic?
Underground roads could also make self-driving cars more popular, which helps to save energy and reduce traffic accidents. 3. C But if driverless cars end up becoming more popular than public transport, it could actually make traffic worse, because cars take up more space than trains and buses.
4. D Building and keeping them are dangerous and cost a lot of money. On top of that, most people don’t like the feeling of staying in a closed space. Travelling underground might be uncomfortable for them.
Dreams of roadless,car-free cities bring both excitement and doubt. 5. A But perhaps getting more people to use public transport rather than private cars would be a better choice.第5讲 七下 U 5 T 1
