Around the Earth
The Moon is much smaller than the Earth. It travels around the Earth. It may look as if it gives off light, but it doesn’t. It looks bright because k reflects that light from the Sun.

Are there aliens in space? Seth Shostak and Alexandra Barnett are astronomers (天文学家). They believe there must be aliens somewhere in the universe (宇宙). They also think we will soon contact the aliens.
Why do Shostak and Barnett think aliens exist? The first reason is time. Scientists believe the universe is about 12 billion years old. “This is long enough for other planets to have aliens,” say Shostak and Barnett. The second reason is size — the universe is huge. “Tools like the Hubble Telescope (哈勃望远镜) have shown that there are at least 100 billion galxies (星系),” says Shostak. “And our galaxy, the Milky Way, has at least 100 billion stars. Some planets going around these stars might be similar to the Earth.” In the past, it was hard to look for signs (符号) of aliens in the universe. But now, great tools allow scientists to discover smaller planets — the size of Mars or the Earth — in other solar systems. There may be aliens on these planets.
Have aliens already visited the Earth? ''Probably not,” says Shostak. “It’s a long way away. However, aliens may contact us in other ways, such as radio signals (信号).In fact, they may be trying to communicate with us now, but we don’t have the right tools to receive their messages. However, this is changing. By 2050, we can make contact with other life forms in the universe and we might help each other.”
( )41. What are Seth Shostak and Alexandra Barnett?
A. They are astronauts.
B. They are astronomers.
C. They are science fiction writers.
D. They are aliens.
( )42. What is the main idea of Paragraph Two?
A. The age and size of the Earth.
B. Our galaxy: the Milky Way.
C. Why aliens might exist.
D. Earth: the only planet with aliens.
( )43. Why haven’t aliens visited us yet according to Shostak?
A. Because they’re afraid of us.
B. Because they are far away from us.
C. Because they don’t know how to get to the Earth.
D. Because they don’t know how to use radio signals.
( )44. What does the underlined phrase “life forms” refer to?
A. Messages. B. Human beings.
C. Radio signals. D. Aliens.
( )45. What can we learn from the passage?
A. People can use Hubble Telescope to see nearly 100 billion galaxies.
B. It is not hard to look for aliens on other planets now.
C. Three reasons are mentioned why there are aliens in space.
D. We can get in touch with aliens in the future.
