Nowadays many people care about natural resources, such as oil. Though there’re many kinds of resources, with the increase of population and the appearance of many factories, the more we use, the fewer will be left. Oil is getting less and less. Though it may be incredible, it’s said that oil on Earth can last for only 50 years. Natural gas perhaps will last about 38 years.
It’s difficult to imagine what the modem world will be like without oil. But oil isn’t easy to find and get out of the Earth. Human beings must study the rocks. When they think the rocks in a certain place may contain oil, a tower is built. A machine in the tower cuts a hole down into the ground. And a steel pipe (钢管) is pushed down to keep out water. At last if human beings are right, usually the oil rushes up by the pressure of the gas in the top of the rock, and it rushes high into the air. If the oil catches a light, there will be a terrible fire. So a kind of cover (盖子) is fixed on the top of the pipe, and the oil can run out through taps (阀门).
If we make a well near the middle of the oil field, we can also get coal gas. Such gas is sent through pipes to towns far away and used in houses and factories.
Today the price of oil keeps rising all the time. In many countries, the governments (政府)encourage people to save oil as much as possible.

A. Coal gas can’t be used in houses and factories.
B. Oil is very important in the modem world.
C. Many governments encourage people to stop using oil.
D. Today oil is as expensive as before.
( )39. What’s the tendency (趋势)of the amount of oil on Earth according to the passage?
amount 和 time走势图
( )40. What does the writer mainly want to tell us?
A. We should use less oil in the future.

Today, we at Amazon are excited to show Kindle, a wireless, convenient reading machine with instant access (即时访问) more than 90,000 books, magazines and newspapers.
We’ve been working on Kindle for more than three years. We want the Kindle to appear in your hands, so you can enjoy your reading. We also want to go beyond those heavy books. Kindle is wireless, so whether you’re lying in bed or on a train, you can think of a book, and have it in less than 60 seconds. No computer is needed for you to do your reading from the machine.
We choose the same wireless technology used in mobile phones. But unlike phones there are no monthly wireless bills, no service or data plans, and no yearly contracts (合同),and there is no software to install (安装). We want you to get lost in your reading but not in the technology.
Kindle uses a new kind of screen called electronic paper. Natural with no strong light, reading on Kindle is nothing like reading from a computer screen. Kindle weighs only about 290 grams — less than paperwork — but can carry two hundred books. Enjoy learning about Kindle and thank you!
