I had been up since 4 a. m., running 27 miles in the dark for an upcoming marathon. After completing my run in just over four hours, I jumped into my car, heading to the health club for my regular workout. I made it almost through my kickboxing class before passing out.
A friend carried me downstairs, and I lay down on the long sofa. I stayed like that until I could sit up without the room spinning(旋转). Even then, I tried to head to the weight room, but my friend insisted that I go home, packing me into my car with a serious look.
Back home, I showered, changed into workout clothes, and headed back to the car—only to find my keys missing. My husband was holding them. "You have a problem," he said. As he walked away, I cried. If I had the keys, I'd still have gone back to the health club.
I was just 30 years old, yet I had the bone density(密度) of a 60-year-old. Due to over-exercising and under-eating, I had more stress fractures(骨折) in my legs and feet. My hair was falling out. I was underweight. I couldn't sleep. I was feeling cold all the time. My blood pressure was very low. In short, my body was no longer able to properly keep the most basic functions.
Then, I started treatment. The first rule of my treatment program was zero exercise. I wasn't even allowed to walk around the block. I went from exercising for hours every day to nothing. It was the most difficult time I had ever experienced.
Today I walk a fine line: I still exercise every day, but I limit it to no more than 2 hours. I have regular checkups at the doctor, and keep good physical and mental health. Now my goal is to educate others.
24. Why did the writer try to go back to the club from home
A. Because she had a passion for keeping fit.
B. Because she had an exercise addiction.
C. Because she had a fear of aging.
D. Because she had a desire to lose weight.
25. What is paragraph 4 mainly about
A. Ways to slow down aging. B. Common signs of aging.
C. The importance of workout. D. Heavy price of over-exercising.
26. What was the writer's treatment course like
A. Easy. B. Relaxed. C. Challenging. D. Encouraging.
27. What lesson can we learn from the text
A. Don't overdo your workout. B. Daily exercise is important.
C. Regular checkups are necessary. D. Zero exercise is the best health secret.

Dolphin(海豚) communication has always interested scientists. The intelligent creatures use a range of noises to work together and stay connected. Some sounds even act like names, helping dolphins recognize one another. Now, researchers at Google and Georgia Tech hope to understand dolphin speech—and maybe even talk to them—with the help of Artificial Intelligence(AI).
The scientists began by training an AI language model called DolphinGemma, which used 40 years of data from a group of Atlantic dolphins in the Bahamas. The recordings and videos were collected by researchers at the Wild Dolphin Project(WDP). They got not only the sounds dolphins made but also the situation in which they were used.
Once ready, DolphinGemma can produce sounds analogous to the recordings. About half are just ocean noise. The rest are dolphins' clicks(短而尖的声音), whistles(口哨声), and burst pulses. Burst pulses are spaced clicks that sound like a machine. Dolphins use them to talk, play, and find their way.
The next step is to test if these sounds produced by DolphinGemma work on dolphins. To do this, the team is building a device(装置) named CHAT. Once ready, two divers will wear CHAT and swim alongside the dolphins. CHAT will play a dolphin's whistle produced by AI to "ask" for an object, like a bottle. At the same time, the divers will pass the object back and forth. If a dolphin copies the whistle, the divers will reward it with the bottle.
Thea Taylor is the director of the Sussex Dolphin Project. She warns that the researchers must be sure the dolphins are communicating—not just making the sounds to get the object. "We have to think whether that's actually an understanding of language—or whether it's the same as teaching a dog to sit because they get a reward,"Taylor said.
Regardless of the result, the DolphinGemma team hopes their project will show how smart dolphins are. Learning more about their communication could change how we see and treat them.
28. What did researchers use DolphinGemma to do first
A. To copy the sounds of dolphins' speaking.
B. To identify every dolphin's name.
C. To analyze decades of ocean sounds.
D. To collect more dolphins' recording data.
29. What does the underlined word "analogous" mean
A. Clever. B. Noisy. C. Similar. D. Strange.
30. What is the main purpose of using CHAT in the experiment
A. To train dolphins to perform tricks.
B. To test if dolphins understand sounds made by AI.
C. To feed dolphins in a natural environment.
D. To compare the speeches of dolphins and humans.
31. What's Taylor's attitude towards using CHAT
A. Positive. B. Doubtful. C. Confident. D. Favourable.

Did you know that dry deserts in some countries have become green and rich farmland In places like the United Arab Emirates and China, fruits and vegetables now grow well, offering fresh food to local people.
Back in the 1980s, the Nile Delta in Egypt—a place famous for good farming—suddenly became empty and lifeless. For many years, flood waters from the Nile River had brought tiny clay(黏土) pieces to the soil(土壤). These helped the land stay strong and rich. But when the Aswan Dam(大坝) was built, it stopped the clay from flowing with the water. Without this clay, the soil became weaker and less able to grow crops.
Clay had been used in farming before, but it took a lot of work, often harmed nature, and could produce greenhouse gases. Now, by studying how soil works, a company from Norway has made a product that can bring life back to dry lands: liquid nanoclay(LNC). LNC is a careful mix of clay and water. It forms a thin liquid that goes deep into the ground, below where most plant roots grow. The tiny clay pieces stick to sand and form a network that holds water much better. This helps the soil stay wet and rich for longer.
While LNC can cut water use by up to 47%, it's not a perfect solution. Right now, treating one square meter of land costs about $2—a price too high for many poor areas. Also, it only works well on sandy soils, so other places with different soil types will need different solutions. LNC could also help grow forests in dry areas, giving animals more homes and helping bring more rain. But this might hurt desert animals and people who are used to living in dry places. Deserts may seem empty, but they play an important role in nature—they help control the Earth's temperature.
32. What is the influence of the Aswan Dam
A. Make the land poor. B. Lead to flooding.
C. Raise crop production. D. Bring a lot of clay.
33. What is the third paragraph mainly about concerning LNC
A. Its production cost. B. Its business value.
C. Its harmful influence. D. Its working rule.
34. Which is the limitation of LNC
A. Its colour. B. Its production.
C. Its selling price. D. Its instructions for use.
35. What is the best title for the text
A. LNC: A Perfect Solution to Desert Farming
B. The Aswan Dam and Its Harm to the Nile Delta
C. Turning Deserts into Farmland: Hopes and Challenges
D. How Clay Helps Soil Stay Rich and Productive

Earthquakes happen all over the world. Here are some steps you can take to prepare yourself in advance.
Drop, cover and hold. If you feel the ground start to shake: Drop, take cover under a strong piece of furniture, and hold on. You're the safest under something like a desk or table, with one arm holding onto a leg of the table and your other arm protecting your neck and head. 36 In modern homes, doorways(门口) are no stronger than any other part of the house and will not protect you from injuries.
Make a family plan. Next, make sure your family has a plan of action. Whatever plan you decide on, don't rely on your phone as your main form of communication. 37 A major earthquake may damage cell towers(手机信号塔) and knock out communication services for days.
Secure your furniture. 38 People often get injured from flying or falling objects like furniture or glass during earthquakes. Remove or secure heavy objects such as shelves, mirrors and picture frames above areas where you spend a lot of time, such as your bed or desk. You should also fasten(固定) larger furniture like shelving units and TVs to the wall.
39 Prepare enough supplies to last at least 72 hours for every family member. Store at least one gallon of water per person per day. Pair this with a 72-hour supply of food items. Choose foods that are lightweight, nutritious, and have long shelf lives.
Start preparing your go bag. Everyone at home should have one, and it should contain enough food, clothing and supplies to last about three days. 40 A flashlight is good to have in case the power goes out, and heavy-duty(结实的) gloves can help if you need to clear broken pieces like glass.
A. Be aware of aftershocks.
B. Store up water and food.
C. But try to pack relatively lightly.
