Four Dream Holidays
★See a Penguin
This is a once-in-a-lifetime holiday in the snow and ice of the Antarctic. You can see animals and birds you only see on TV or in zoos. The trip starts in South Africa and finishes in Western Australia. You travel on a Russian ship,Kapitan Khlebnikov, and the holiday lasts for just under a month.
★Go on Safari
This holiday is a trip to see wild animals with a difference. You travel by helicopter (直升飞机)over parts of Kenya, listening to music as you fly,and then you sleep under the African stars in a comfortable bed. There's another trip in a hot-air balloon, which gives you a second chance to see wild animals. The best moment is the Elephant Watch in Samburu, where your experienced guide can tell you all about these amazing animals.

If you dream of life on a quiet island, then this is the holiday for you.The island of Quilalea is off the coast of Mozambique and you can only see turtles( 海 龟 ) and a few tourists there. You may live like Robinson Crusoe:watch the turtles,go fishing,or travel in a boat to another island to have a picnic.
★Fly High
This is probably the most expensive holiday in the world. You can go on a flight into space and travel around the Earth in a spaceship—if you have the money! The only problem with this holiday is the six-day training course before you take the trip. You travel above the Earth for between 30 and 90 minutes and you get a beautiful view of our green and blue planet.

I grew up in the Philippines. When I was fifteen years old,I moved to Chicago with my family. When I was in the Philippines,I attended a small all-girl private school. While in Chicago I went to a public senior high school. It was a big change for me.The school was new, everyone was different, and people there were also diverse.I had never met so many kinds of people in just one place.I was scared during the first day of school.I didn't know anyone.I got lost since the school was huge.I really didn't know what to do.I just wanted to cry.Luckily,a girl of my age came to me.
"Are you in trouble "she asked me smilingly.
At first I was too shy to say anything. But she looked very kind.“I’m lost.I can't find my classroom,"I said.
“Don't worry.Let me help you,”said the girl.
So I told the girl where I was going.Luckily, she just knew that place and she took me there.

When she knew I just came to the city, she said I could turn to her whenever I needed help.I was really thankful hearing that.
Before the girl left, she said with a smile,"I’m sure you'll make some new friends here soon."What she said gave me great courage and confidence.

TikTok has reported it will block young users on the social networking platform from using certain beauty filters(滤镜)on photographs.
The filters allow users to edit photos and do things like making people's skin look clearer, their eyes a little bigger or their lips a little fuller. Some filters also allow users to change their skin colour, and it can be hard to see when a photograph has been edited in this way.
【高一英语 第3页(共8页)】
People under the age of 18 will be blocked from using these filters. Some of them are created by users and others are made by the app.TikTok posted the changes after a report by Internet Matters,a children's online safety organisation. The organisation found that these beauty filters could be harmful to children's mental health because they put young people under pressure to look a certain way. This can harm children's self-esteem(自尊)and cause worry, experts say.
Christine Grahn from TikTok said on LinkedIn,“If our users don't feel safe, they won't bring their true selves to TikTok and the platform just wouldn't be the same.”One TikTok user told The Guardian in 2022 that she had considered getting cosmetic surgery(美容手术) after a period of using beauty filters on the app.
Fun filters that allow children to add dog noses or rabbit ears to images will still be OK to use.One problem with the ban(禁令)is that not all users enter their real ages when signing up to TikTok.The company said it would soon be trying out new machine learning systems that could help find out when users had entered the incorrect age,but it is under pressure to stop under 13s from using the platform by giving untrue dates of birth.
Children's safety organisations want all social media sites to do more to make the platforms safe spaces for young people.
18.What will TikTok do about certain beauty filters for young users
A.Test their safety. B.Post their advantages.
C.Ban the use of them. D.Increase their users.

A.To show the harm of beauty filters.
B.To make readers more interested.
C.To warn children to stay away from Internet.
D.To introduce cosmetic surgery.
21.What problem does TikTok have with the ban
A.Users might not like it.
B.It's hard to check how old users are.
C.Users might misunderstand the rule.
D.It doesn't receive support from parents.

Researchers in Australia, who studied 1,500 people and their lifestyles, have found that having good friends can help you live longer. An American study of 10,000 students, over a period of 35 years, also found that if you make more friends than the average(普通的)person at school, you'll receive a higher salary (工资)in later life.People need good social skills at work to manage people and work in a team successfully. These are the same skills we use to make friends at school.
【高一英语 第4页(共8页)】
On average, teenagers aged between 15 and 17 have 500“friends”on their favourite social networking site.Adults have 130.So if you believe this research, you might live for a long time and be very rich.
However, according to Professor Robin Dunbar from the University of Oxford,it probably won't make any difference.Dunbar studied the number of messages between users of a popular social networking website, each of whom had between 200 and 2,000 friends. He found that they always communicate with a maximum(最大量)of 150 people.
Among these 150,Dunbar believes that around five people are close friends.
You've most likely known them for a long time;they are probably old friends and you share all your good and bad experiences with them. Then there are ten more friends.Although they're close to you,you may not keep in touch with them every week.Next there are 35 people who you might spend time with because of a shared interest. You aren't close. And finally, there's a large group of 100.You see or speak to these people at least once a year, but you don't know them well.Beyond this number,Dunbar says,it's impossible to make any rclationship meaningful.
If you have a lot of online“friends”,try this experiment:First take away anyone you haven't been in touch with for a year. Then remove people you can't remember and, finally, take away friends who you wouldn't mind losing touch with. How many do you have left How many of these people are actually good friends According to the research, these are the only people that really matter.
22.What are the studies in the first paragraph mainly about
A.Some useful advice on how to make friends.
B.Some social skills you may need at work.
C.The advantages of having a lot of friends.
D.The number of friends you should have.
23.What is Robin Dunbar's attitude towards the studies
A.Disagreeable. B.Unclear. C.Hopeful. D.Careless.
24.What does the text mainly want to show

B.Friends are sometimes more important than family.
C.There is a lot of research on the influence of friends.
D.You need to spend more time with your friends.
25.In which part of a newspaper can we read the text
