The Chinese abacus (算盘) is known as suanpan. This ancient calculating device, with its origins dating back thousands of years, is a cultural artifact (文化遗产). It is usually 20 cm wide and comes in different lengths. It usually has more than seven rods (杆子). There are two beads (算珠) on each rod in the upper deck and five beads each in the bottom. The beads are usually round and made of wood. The beads are counted by moving them up or down towards the beam (横梁). ① If you move them toward the beam, you count their value. If you move away, you don't count their value. Skilled operators can quickly perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and even division. Suanpan can be reset to the starting position quickly, so then you can start to count again easily with it. ②
In conclusion, the abacus has played a significant role in the development of human civilization. In Japan, the abacus is called soroban. ③ It was brought from China to Japan in the 14th century. The use of soroban is still taught in Japanese primary schools as part of Maths.
Today, many children in China also learn to use suanpan in after-school classes. Although we now have calculators and computers, suanpan is still a fun and useful tool for learning math. It shows the wisdom (智慧) of ancient people and reminds us that learning can be hands-on and interesting. ④

C. To ask schools to stop teaching students calculators.
D. To describe the differences between wood and plastic beads.
27.What can we learn about the size of a common suanpan
A. It is always 20 cm long. B. It becomes shorter when more rods are added.
C. Both length and width are exactly 20 cm. D.Its width is the same but its length is different.
28. If a suanpan has 9 rods, how many beads are there in the upper deck altogether

How AI changes the way we study
AI has become one of the most important learning tools in our daily lives. It brings many benefits to students. For example, it acts as a free tutor, answering our questions anytime. It also helps us find information quickly and learn in a more interactive way.
However, if we rely too much on AI, we may face some problems. We might become lazy in thinking and lose the ability to solve problems on our own. Also, too much screen time could harm our eyesight.
In my opinion, AI is a useful tool, but we should use it wisely. We should not let it replace our own thinking. Instead, we should use it to help us understand difficult ideas and improve our skills. Let’s embrace AI as a helper, not a replacement for our brains.
