Analysis of the Teaching Material
The text is divided into two parts. The first part falls under the theme context of "Humans and Nature", and it introduces the geographical features, historical culture and official language of Peru; the second part also belongs to the theme context of "Humans and Nature", and it presents four different scenic spots in Peru, including travel time, transportation methods, accommodation and activities.
Analysis of Students
Strengths:
1. Can do simple communicative activities in English .
2. Be more interested in the topic of traveling.
3. Learned some new words about traveling.
Weaknesses:
1. Have little travel experience and do not know Peru.
2. Difficulty in distinguishing between the encyclopedia and the travel brochure.
3. Lack of expressive skills.

Step 1 Lead-in Ask students a question: Do you like travelling Think about and answer the question. Activate students’ interest about travel.
Step 2 Pre-reading Which four tourist attractions are mainly introduced in the video Watch the video and think about the question. Create a real situation for students to know some basic information about four tourist attractions.
Step 3 While-reading Activity 1: Read for the text type Show the features of encyclopedia and travel brochure. Ask students to figure out the text of type according to their features. Ask students to listen to the tape and choose the answer. 1. Understand the features of encyclopedia and travel brochure. 2. Listen to the tape and think about the answer. 2. Check whether to master the basic information by finish the exercise. Make a preliminary distinction of encyclopedia and brochure. Develop a further understanding towards the two texts.
Activity 2: Read for the main idea Ask students to read text 1 quickly and choose the answer. Read the text 1 quickly and choose representative to speak out and explain the answer. Train students’ reading strategy of skimming;
Activity 3: Read for information Ask students to fill in the table. Discuss in pairs and choose other representatives to speak out and explain the answers. Sort out text information by category. Consolidate content understanding.
Step 4 Post-reading Introduce Peru to the following travelers. Divide students into four groups. Ask students to recommend a tourist attraction. Work in groups, and recommend a tourist attractions to travelers. Encourage students to cooperate; Broaden their critical thinking and stimulate inspiration.
Step 5 Sublimation Ask students a question. What are the benefits of travel Think about and answer the question. Develop students’ creative thinking.
Step 6 Summary Teacher leads students to summarize this lesson. Try to summarize what they have learned. Consolidate what students have learned today.
Step 7 Homework Finish Exercise 3 on Page 27. (Workbook) Introduce some of tourist destinations in your hometown. Design a one-page English travel brochure. (Based on homework B) To tailor homework to students’ different academic abilities.
