The Fire Festival is celebrated in northern Ghana. It's a holiday we had never heard of before we came to live in a village here as Peace Corps community volunteers. It's unbelievably great.
On the Fire Festival, drums beat a quick and regular rhythm that locals dance to in a circle of bodies, men and women, the old and young, holding torches of burning grass above their heads, which stands for the light and getting off negative energies.
At this moment, this festival is being held at the beginning of the lunar year. The locals are all so involved in the celebration that they don't pay as much attention to us as they normally will. When they find us getting involved as they are, they dance more vigorously and scream with joy.
Danielle, a friend of mine in the Peace Corps, says, “That we join in the celebration is significant because foreigners here are typically seen as the representatives of other organizations, not as people who are willing to join in the Fire Festival rituals (仪式). But in fact, we are dancing and celebrating as one.”
Our two year Peace Corps service will finish up in mid-November. We can think of no better way to say goodbye than by celebrating the Fire Festival with the villagers we've come to know. The festival lets us see a different side of them—and lets them see a different side of us. The neighbors who sell rice are now the women who urge us to run faster and dance harder at the Fire Festival. And rather than viewing us as low-key volunteers, they see us as the ones who have crazy dance steps with wild screams.
24.Why did the author go to northern Ghana?
A.To find a job.
B.To go traveling.
C.To study further.
D.To do voluntary work.
25.How do the locals feel when seeing the author and Danielle join in the celebration?
A.Annoyed. B.Indifferent.
C.Confused. D.Excited.
26.What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A.The benefits of celebrating the Fire Festival.
B.The secrets of dancing well in the Fire Festival.
C.The reasons of the author's joining in the festival.
D.The experience of helping the neighbors sell rice.
27.What can we learn from the text?
A.Practice makes perfect.
B.Where there is a will, there is a way.
C.When in Rome, do as the Romans do.
D.The grass is always greener on the other side.

The annual Redhead Days Festival in Tilburg, Netherlands, drew thousands of red haired people from around the world. The three day event is a celebration of red hair, a feature only shared by 1%-2% of the global population. And although redheads can be found all over the world, the numbers are higher for people from the north of Europe, where the rate (比率) is between 2% and 6%.
For many attendees, like 30 year old Scottish Liam Hunter, the festival is an opportunity to feel a sense of belonging and self acceptance. Hunter, who has experienced bullying (霸凌) due to his hair color, expressed a sense of satisfaction and unity at the event. “I don't feel alone anymore. I feel together, a part of something,” he said.
The event, which attracted about 5,000 redheads from various countries, offered a range of activities including painting workshops, make up and skincare knowledge, photo shoots, musical performances, and speed meet events.
Interestingly, the festival's start was somewhat accidental. Bart Rouwenhorst, an artist and the event's organizer, placed an advertisement in the local newspaper in 2005 seeking 15 red haired models for a painting project. Surprisingly, he received responses from 150 individuals. Although Rouwenhorst is not a redhead himself, he decided to organize a group photo with all the respondents. The gathering got much attention and was considered a success, leading the organizers to establish it as an annual event.
Now the festival serves as a special stage for redheads to celebrate their differences, develop a sense of community, and raise awareness about the challenges they face, such as bullying and increased sensitivity (过敏) to the sun. It also provides an opportunity for non redheads to learn about and appreciate the uniqueness of red hair.
28.What can we learn from the first paragraph?
A.Redheads celebrate their festival with various activities.
B.Red hair is a common disease among the global population.
C.The Redhead Days Festival is celebrated around the world.
D.Population in northern Europe has a higher rate of redheads.
29.What does Hunter's experience tell us?
A.The redheads enjoy a high social position.
B.The redheads take pride in their difference.
C.The redheads face discrimination sometimes.
D.The redheads have trouble keeping up with others.
30.What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?
A.The origin of the festival.
B.The popularity of the festival.
C.Customs during the festival.
D.Activities during the festival.
31.Which of the following can best describe the event?
A.Challenging. B.Informal.
C.Remarkable. D.Meaningless.

Editor's note: An increasing number of Chinese people, especially the young, are more willing to celebrate Western festivals. Should we celebrate foreign festivals Forum (论坛)readers share their opinions. You're welcome to add yours.
Dinah (China)
I enjoy the happy atmosphere of both Chinese and Western festivals. As long as it is meaningful for me, I will celebrate them with my boyfriend and my parents! I like Western festivals and often celebrate them without even knowing the origins of them. Why Because what I really appreciate is just the happy atmosphere.
SharkMinnow (Canada)
Western festivals are more like parties or games for some Chinese. Also, spending money is good for economy. Most Chinese don't take Western festivals as seriously as their own. It's like a game or party in my eyes. A way to blow off steam and have fun (and spend money).
Travis (UK)
As an Englishman teaching here in China for two years, my friends have got used to and enjoy it when I celebrate my festivals. My school also likes it as well, although this year they asked me not to scare the teachers so much on Halloween. My Chinese friends enjoy taking part in my festivals, as they also learn more about my culture, and the history that goes with it ...
Leesinchina (US)
Cherish your own festivals. It would be a pity if the Chinese accepted these Western days—first, because they have absolutely nothing to do with traditional Chinese culture. Second, they are a big trick by the big stores to get more money out of you. Stick to your own festivals—they actually mean something to you—rather than following Western customs for no good reason.
32.What matters most according to Dinah?
A.The atmosphere when celebrating festivals.
B.The people with whom to celebrate festivals.
C.Celebrating Chinese festivals with her family.
D.Celebrating Western festivals in a good atmosphere.
33.What's the attitude of readers 2 and 4 towards celebrating Western festivals?
A.Optimistic. B.Indifferent.
C.Neutral. D.Negative.
34.Which can be the best title for this text?
A.How should we celebrate festivals?
B.Should we celebrate foreign festivals?
C.Why are more young people celebrating foreign festivals?
D.Are more Chinese people willing to celebrate foreign festivals?
35.In which of the following can this text be originally found?
A.A newspaper. B.A debate.
C.A website. D.A textbook.

My brother Joe and I no longer live in the same state, but I make sure to give Joe a call every Christmas. In fact, I will never forget a Christmas when I was seven and Joe was five. I've kept a secret about that Christmas for 20 years. Now hearing Joe's voice makes me feel guilty (内疚的) about it all over again. I think he probably doesn't even remember it.
When we were kids, Joe almost drove me “crazy”! If Mom brought home my favorite yogurt, Joe would make sure to eat it before I got a chance. When our parents gave us each our own basketball, Joe insisted on playing with mine instead of his own.
That Christmas when I was seven, I was determined to teach him a lesson. At that time I was old enough that I no longer believed in Santa, but I knew Joe did. I couldn't stand him thinking Santa had put him on the “nice” list when I knew he'd been naughty (淘气的) all year.
One day before Christmas, I put on my winter jacket and headed over to our neighbor's backyard. It was filled with rocks. To me they really looked like coal (煤炭). I was sure that they'd look like coal to Joe too. I filled a lot of the rocks into the pockets of my winter jacket, brought them to my room and hid them under my bed. Then I waited.
That morning, I got up early, went downstairs secretly and put the rocks into the red stocking with Joe's name on it. I watched Joe take down his heavy stocking, lay it on the living room floor.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
Looking at the gift inside, Joe's smile disappeared suddenly. I said on the phone, “Hey, Joe, do you remember that Christmas morning when you were five ... your stocking ...”

Dear Smith,
I am thrilled to hear about your interest in Chinese traditional culture, especially the Dragon Boat Festival. I'm more than happy to share some insights into this important event with you.
The Dragon Boat Festival falls on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month. This festival has been celebrated for over 2,000 years and is deeply rooted in Chinese history. The most popular belief regarding its origin is to commemorate the death of Qu Yuan, an ancient poet who was known for his loyalty to his country.
One of the customs of the Dragon Boat Festival is the making and eating of sticky rice dumplings, or zongzi. Besides enjoying zongzi, people also participate in dragon boat races, hang wormwood leaves on their doors to repel evil spirits, and drink realgar wine as a way to ward off diseases.
It would be a great opportunity for you to experience this unique aspect of Chinese culture. So you can come to my home to celebrate the festival together. Looking forward to your reply!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
Looking at the gift inside, Joe's smile disappeared suddenly. I said on the phone, “Hey, Joe, do you remember that Christmas morning when you were five ... your stocking ...”

[精彩范文]
Looking at the gift inside, Joe's smile disappeared suddenly. His face turned red. He didn't cry or complain. He stayed completely silent. He wouldn't even look at anyone else in the room. As I watched, my own expectation turned to something like regret. Joe put his whole stocking aside, hiding it so our parents wouldn't see how Santa had treated him. I'd never told anyone what I'd done. But it still troubled me, even all these years later. I must tell him the truth when I called him this Christmas.
I said on the phone, “Hey, Joe, do you remember that Christmas morning when you were five ... your stocking ...” Joe said, “Coal! Of course I remember! Wow, you really frightened me that time.” To my relief, my brother burst out laughing. “I was embarrassed!” he added. “I waited until everyone had left the room. Then I took the rocks outside. I didn't want Mom and Dad to know I was naughty!” “I guess if either of us should get coal in a Christmas stocking that year it must be me,” I said. It felt so good to say it, even if Joe never mentioned it. It turned out Joe's forgiveness—even all these years later—was the best stocking present I could have wished for.

Dear Smith,
I am thrilled to hear about your interest in Chinese traditional culture, especially the Dragon Boat Festival.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
Looking at the gift inside, Joe's smile disappeared suddenly.﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍
I said on the phone, “Hey, Joe, do you remember that Christmas morning when you were five ... your stocking ...”﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍
