【原文】
The dishwasher was invented by a woman called Josephine Cochrane in 1886. She was a rich American who gave a lot of dinner parties. But she was angry that her servants used to break plates and cups when they were washing them after the party. So Josephine decided to try and invent a machine which would wash a lot of plates and cups safely. Josephine Cochrane expected people to welcome the new invention, which she introduced to the public at the 1893 World’s Fair, but only the hotels and large restaurants were buying her ideas. Dishwashers didn’t become popular with the public until the 1950s. Today the dishwasher is used by millions of people all over the world.

Thanks to technology, the way we communicate with others has greatly changed. How do you feel about it Would you prefer to live in a world with or without mobile phones
I ordered some snacks on my phone the other afternoon. Once I got home from work that evening, I saw they were already at my door. So prompt! Have you ever thought about how people in the past communicated and did things without mobile phones Take the post for example. Before phones, if you wanted to keep in touch with someone far away, you needed to send them a letter in the mail. When my mom was in primary school, she used to do this with her “pen pal”. A pen pal is a name for a person you keep in touch with mainly through postal mail. My mom would write to her pen pal every few months, and then, after a little while, her pen pal would write back. Later, once email became a common thing, sending letters by post felt so slow to people. It became known as “snail mail”!
What if you were at an airport in the time before mobile phones My dad said that in the 1970s, there used to be message boards at some airports. If you needed to exit (离开) the airport and wanted to leave a message for a friend who would be arriving later, you could write them a message and stick it on the message board. Then, your friend could go check the board later and see what you wrote to them!

25.What is the story mainly about

Have you ever seen a solar panel (太阳能电池板) in your neighbourhood Solar panels take energy from the sun and turn it into electricity. Over the past ten years, the price of solar panels has gone down greatly. In many parts of the world, solar energy is now the cheapest form of electricity. More and more people have started using solar energy to power their homes.
However, solar panels also have their problems. They stop working at night and on rainy days. Is it possible to make them produce electricity all of the time
Scientists at Suzhou University, China, have invented a new solar panel now. It can produce electricity not only from solar energy but also from falling rain. When a raindrop falls on the solar panel and then rolls down, it creates friction (摩擦力) on the surface of the panel, which can then be turned into electricity.
Sun Baoquan is one of the inventors. “Our new invention can produce electricity in any weather during the day,” he says. “It can even provide electricity at night if there is rain.”
The solar panel, however, does not make much electricity from falling rain. So Sun Baoquan is still working hard to improve it. The scientist also wants to make more flexible solar panels, which are as soft as clothing. They will be much lighter and provide more electricity.
The field of solar energy is developing fast. Scientists around the world have been improving solar panels. Some have been working on ways to join solar panels and wind power together. Some have been trying to use sunlight to produce liquid and gas fuels (液体和气体燃料).
26.Why aren’t common solar panels good enough

28.What does the underlined word “flexible” mean in Paragraph 5
A.Soft. B.Big. C.Hard. D.Light.
29.What can we learn from the last paragraph
A.There is no room for developing solar energy.
B.Solar panels don’t need to be improved any more.
C.There is no end to the research in the field of solar energy.
D.Solar energy has completely replaced other kinds of energy.
30.What is the passage mainly about
A.The history of solar panels. B.The importance of solar energy.
C.The development of solar panels. D.The advantages of using solar panels.

Alfredo Moser is a Brazilian worker who is skilled at repairing machines. His wife says her husband has always been handy (手巧的) at home and made tables and chairs. Alfredo has invented a way of lighting his house during the day without electricity.
He has been using plastic bottles filled up with water and a little bleach (漂白剂) to provide dark rooms with light for many years. And the idea has now spread across the world. It is predicted that his lighting system, which works using refraction (折射) of sunlight, will be fitted in over a million homes by the end of this year.
Alfredo used normal plastic drinks bottles that are often thrown away. The secret of the liquid in the bottles is the bleach added to water, which stops it turning green in the sunlight. Mr. Moser drills a hole in a roof tile (在屋瓦上钻洞) and then pushes the bottle in from below, keeping the bottle in place with polyester resin (聚酯树脂). Depending on the strength of sunlight, the light fills his home, and the bottles are just like electric bulbs of between 40 and 60 watts (瓦特).
Alfredo came up with the idea for his “Moser light” during one of the blackouts in Brazil in 2002. He said only factories had power in his home city, in southern Brazil during the energy shortage.
The local supermarket and his neighbors, houses are utilizing Moser lights. He earned a few dollars, but his invention has not made him a rich man. Now a great number of people admire what he is doing!
