Good Book, Bad Movie
They say that1 “a picture is worth a thousand words”, but the briefest look at books and the movies based on them2 would have anyone questioning this common saying3. All too often, great words end up being turned into cinematic “turkeys”. Good movies need good stories. If so4, why has one of the earliest and greatest works in Western storytelling, Homer's The Odyssey, never had an equally great movie based on it Movies need strong characters. So why have the movies based on The Great Gatsby never been praised as “great”? Movies of course need impressive images, so why has Alice in Wonderland only resulted in movies best described as “interesting”5? One of the key reasons behind this is that6 while7 a book usually takes a few days to read, a movie typically lasts under two hours. This means that8 great books can lose plot details and characters when9 they move to the big screen. This is something that10 even the highly successful Harry Potter movies can't escape from, with fans of the books disappointed not to see some of their favourite characters in the movie versions. Movies also disappoint us when11 things don't look the way we imagined them in the books12. Take, for example, the epic movie Troy, which13 is in part based on Homer's The Iliad and was met with mixed reviews from the audience. The most questionable issue was the actress chosen to play the part of Helen. Many people thought she didn't live up to Helen's title of “the most beautiful woman in the world”, influencing opinions of the movie to some extent14. There are a thousand Hamlets in a thousand people's eyes. Furthermore, books and movies are two different forms of media and therefore have different rules. With this in mind, perhaps we should judge a movie in its own right, and not against its original source. Interestingly, audiences have in recent years turned to television series such as Sherlock or Mad Men, which15 can have many characters and gradual plot development. Perhaps, one day, readers of F.Scott Fitzgerald's most admired work will find themselves glued to their screens by episodes of The Great Gatsby.

I've never been one for Disney movies and other animated movies aimed at kids that are often in theaters now. So deciding to watch Spirited Away, I was feeling pretty unenthusiastic but its glowing reviews and Studio Ghibli's reputation pushed me to still watch it.
Spirited Away is about a 10-year-old girl named Chihiro. While on the way to her new home her parents and she go down an old road. After passing through a tunnel they end up in what seems to be an abandoned town. In the town, her parents find an open food stall and eat the food, saying they can pay the shop owner once they get there. But they turn into pigs! Guided by Haku, who she meets while looking around, she sets off to try and save her parents and return to her own world.
Although it is a children's film, I found the story to be surprisingly mature (成熟的) and enjoyable. Near the beginning of the story, Chihiro was a bit of a spoiled kid, but she progresses a lot as a character as she meets and interacts with the residents of the spirit world. The movie does a lot to create a sense of mystery and often uses soft world building. The animation is wonderful. It all flows very well and allows for breathtaking scenes that really bring the world to life alongside your imagination. The film has its fair share of twists and turns and was very enjoyable, while I feel that we could benefit greatly from multiple rewatches, which I'd gladly do, in order to get the full experience.
This is a movie I would definitely recommend to all ages. A small note, it does show blood in a few scenes, so if you're a parent whether or not that's okay for your child would be up to you. All in all, I feel that despite not being a part of the intended audience, this is an excellent movie that deserves a watch no matter what type of person you are.

How to Write a Movie Review
Whether it's for pleasure or a job requirement, writing a good movie review can be a useful exercise. __1__ If you've recently watched a film and want to share your opinions about it, here are some tips to help you compose a wonderful movie review.
Follow your main text with a short plot summary. It's good to give readers an idea of the movie you're reviewing. Give a brief summary of the main characters, the setting and the central conflict of the movie. Never break the number one rule of movie reviews: don't give too much away. __2__
Move into your analysis of the movie. Write several paragraphs discussing the interesting elements in the movie that support your points. Discuss the acting, the direction, the cinematography and the setting, keeping your writing clear and easy to understand. __3__
Use plenty of examples to back up your points. If you make a statement about the movie, back it up with a descriptive example. Describe the way scenes look, the way a certain person acted, camera angles, and so on. __4__ In this way you are giving your readers a feel of the movie and continuing to express your comments on the film at the same time.
__5__ You could treat your review like a formal college essay. But it's more interesting if you make it your own. If your writing style is usually humorous or interesting, your review should be no exception. If you're serious or dramatic, that works, too. Let your language and writing style reflect your unique view and personality—it's much more entertaining for the readers.
A.Give it some personality.
B.Don't ruin the movie for your readers.
C.It is necessary to keep a humorous writing style.
D.You should first watch enough movies on your own.
E.You can use dialogues to help you express your views.
F.So don't use too many technical terms about film making.
G.It allows you to explore your personal connection with a film.

Key elements of a great film
Nowadays films play an important role in our life. And every great film must involve many key elements. Opinions about them vary among people. Below are my ideas about key elements of a great film.
First, I think a great film must have a good script. The dialogue, as well as the plot and the characters, needs to be believable. The story does not have to be the most original, but it needs to be told in an interesting way, which requires a good scriptwriter.
Second, the director plays a very important role in making a great film. The film needs to look good, and the images need to be well thought out. The best films have directors that are fully in control of everything the audience sees on the screen.

Forrest Gump is one of the most inspirational films that leave a deep impression on me.
Forrest Gump is an American film, which is adapted from the novel written by Winston Groom. Tom Hanks stars in the film.
Forrest Gump, the main character, was unfortunately born with a lower IQ, but he is an open minded person with strong determination. It is unbelievable that he has achieved great success at last. Not only is he a football star, but he is also a war hero and later a millionaire.
The film is filled with a tender feeling and kindness. What's more, it conveys a message that we should take a positive attitude towards life. No matter what difficulty we meet in life, we should not give up. Besides, the use of the language is striking, which also makes the film a success.
In a few short weeks I will be going to watch my 40th performance of Les Miserables (《悲惨世界》). I fell in love with the songs back in 1985 when they were first released—Bring Him Home, I Dreamed A Dream and On My Own. Even as a head teacher, I hadn't read the Victor Hugo novel and knew very little about the musical, but the songs captured my attention instantly and I happily sang along whenever I heard them on the radio.
Five years later I set out on a trip around the world with my wife and daughter. On one of our stops in Vancouver, Canada, I saw a large advertising banner promoting Les Miserables and immediately suggested booking tickets. On the drive to the theatre, we discussed what we knew of the storyline—nothing but the French Revolution. But we did love the rollercoaster ride of emotions and the tragic story of Jean Valjean when enjoying it.
On the late night drive home, on a high after this amazing performance, I announced that I wanted to perform in the musical when we returned to Australia. This was an incredible statement, given we lived 50 kilometers from the nearest large town, Toowoomba. There was little likelihood of ever having a chance to perform. But the Toowoomba Choral Society bought the performance rights in 1992 with the view to perform it in 1994. I had seen a few of their performances but was not a member of the choir. They called for auditions and, emboldened by the chance to be part of the “Les Mis” experience, I went along. I had had no experience singing and had never performed in any musicals but I believed in miracles and hoped for a place for me somewhere in the chorus.
I tried out for the part of Javert with others as well as the students from the University of Southern Queensland. Rehearsals (排练) started immediately and I got a crash course in singing, acting and dancing. There was so much to learn and as I drove to rehearsals three times a week, a little voice would say, “You are in over your head, get out now.”

Opening night was amazing.

14现在分词短语作________
Movies also disappoint us when11 things don't look the way we imagined them in the books12. Take, for example, the epic movie Troy, which13 is in part based on Homer's The Iliad and was met with mixed reviews from the audience. The most questionable issue was the actress chosen to play the part of Helen. Many people thought she didn't live up to Helen's title of “the most beautiful woman in the world”, influencing opinions of the movie to some extent14.

15引导__________ ________从句

1.答案:G
解析:根据设空前文“Whether it's for ... a useful exercise.”
2.答案:B
解析:根据设空前文“Give a brief ... too much away.”
4.答案:E
解析:根据设空后文“In this way ... at the same time.”
5.答案:A
解析:根据本段最后两句“Let your language ... for the readers.” 故选A。

注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
