What would you like for lunch Maybe, a battery(电池) Although it sounds unusual, this has already been realized by scientists as they develop electronic things your can eat.
Robotfood, led by a Swiss scientist,Dario Floreano, has created a new drone(无人机) .Half of the parts inside can be eaten! The drone’s wings are made from rice cakes glued together with oil and chocolate. It can find missing people or animals in emergencies(紧急情况) and send food or medicine. Parts of the drone can be eaten because they meet food safety standards for emergencies set by the United Nations.
However, the main challenge is finding stronger edible(可食用的) materials for the drone’s wings to prepare for bad weather and high temperatures ----- of course, the chocolate may melt (融化) easily.
The project, Robotfood also developed an edible sensor(传感器) to help monitor stomach sickness. It’s eaten by the patient to check the conditions inside . It’s different from other sensors because it’s easy for your body to digest(消化) , so it won’t leave any remains inside the body.
Another invention of Robotfood also helps with environmental protection. For example, there are batteries that you can fully eat. Imagine taking a flying taxi to the airport, or jumping over crowded city streets at rush hour, getting where you want to go far faster than you could in a car. Believe it or not, you might be able to do these things in an air taxi sooner than you think.
An air taxi is a small aircraft -----something like a mix between helicopters(直升飞机) and drones(无人机)-----that can carry people from one place to another . Air taxis don’t need a long runway like planes do. They can go straight up and down, like helicopters.
Last June, the government of American agreed to allow a company called Joby Aviation to start testing their new air taxi. This is the first time they’ve tested a taxi that’s been built in a factory. Before that, all their taxis were made by hand.
In 2025, Joby hopes to start carrying passengers for money. They’ve teamed up with Delta Air Lines to create a program to fly people from their homes to the airport . Joby also expects their air taxis to provide a ride----sharing service. Just like you might order a car to pick you up, you could use an app to order an air taxi. Joby’s air taxis will be flown by a pilot, and can carry four other passengers. They can go around 100 miles before the electric batteries need to be recharged(充电).
Compared with helicopters ,Joby says their air taxis are both quieter and cheaper. The company expects to charge about $3 a mile at first. But over time, they hope to bring the price down to less than $1 per mile.
And exciting as the idea of flying taxis is, some people have concerns about them. The taxis may be quieter than helicopters , but they’ll still add noise and traffic to our skies and endanger public safety when passengers are flying through the air.

Yang Jun’ao a 16--year--old student from No. 1 Middle School in Nanxian County, Hunan Province, invented a “Iotus root harvesting robot(采藕机器人)”.
“I got the idea when I saw my 70-year-old grandmother working hard to harvest lotus roots under the hot sun,” Yang said.Sometimes, his grandmother would badly hurt her fingers when using her harvesting tools. To make things easier for his grandmother, Yang thought of creating a machine that could harvest lotus roots.
The robot moves on its own through the field. It can find grown-up roots by looking at the color of the lotus leaves. The robot’s arm then cuts the grown -up lotus roots without breaking them..
During the invention process, Yang faced many problems like collecting parts for the model, putting them together and using a hot glue gun for connection.”The first time I used a hot glue gun, my hands were shaking. But practice makes perfect. I ca do it well later,” Yang laughed. At first, he planned to use rotating blades(旋转叶片) for harvesting lotus roots, but it was hard to find them, so he used more common blades instead.
When Yang showed the machine to his grandmother, she was happy and gave helpful suggestions for improvement. She suggested using the audio(音频) player to show the machine’s location in thick lotus leaves.”“My grandmother’s suggestion reminded me that any technological invention must be practical(实用的) to have true value,”said Yang.
Although Yang still needs to make improvements , like finding cheaper ways to make machines, his teacher Hong spoke highly of Yang’s creative thinking and working on helping his hometown.
