My
mother
was
a
therapist(治疗专家).
Well,
technically
she
was
a
hairdresser,
but
in
reality
she
was
a
therapist.
I
grew
up
in
the
salon(美发店)
--
sitting
on
the
chairs
after
school,
listening
to
the
ladies
talk
about
their
problems,
watching
my
mother
comb
and
listen.
She
gave
every
one
of
her
clients
her
attention.
When
they
were
in
that
chair,
she
was
theirs.
She
listened
to
stories
of
cancer,
marriages,
divorces
and
everything
in
between.
As
a
child,
I
found
it
strange
that
these
women
would
talk
so
openly
to
my
mother
about
such
deeply
personal
matters.
I
remember
once
listening
to
one
of
my
mother's
clients
talking
to
her
about
some
financial
problems
she
and
her
husband
were
having.
In
the
break
room
later
that
afternoon,
I
made
some
comment
about
it
to
my
mother.
I
do
not
remember
what
I
said
but
I
clearly
remember
her
response:
"When
people
share
their
lives
with
you,
it
means
they
trust
you.
Trust
is
more
important
than
money."
My
mother
died
on
February
14th,
1999.
It
was
a
simple
burial.
But
there
is
one
image
that
stands
in
my
mind:
the
sea
of
faces
at
the
service.
There
must
have
been
over
a
hundred
people
at
the
service.
Among
them
was
a
man,
whose
wife
used
to
one
of
my
mother’s
customers.
He
came
because
of
the
special
care
my
mother
gave
to
his
wife
when
she
was
dying
of
cancer.
I
did
not
find
out
until
years
later
that
my
mother
went
to
the
hospital
every
morning
for
months
to
wash
her,
do
her
make-up
and
get
her
ready
to
face
another
day.
My
mother
was
a
hairdresser.
She
had
a
4th
grade
education.
In
her
lifetime,
she
didn't
earn
millions
of
dollars
and
was
not
successful
by
today's
standards.
But
in
my
mind,
she
is
one
of
most
successful
women
I
know.

When
Brooklyn
Andrews
was
3
years
old,
her
father,
Tony
Andrews,
a
former
member
of
the
United
States
National
Guard,
was
called
to
serve
in
Iraq
for
a
year.
He
gave
all
three
of
his
kids
very
special
teddy
bears
before
he
left—by
pressing
a
button
on
the
bears,
they’d
hear
dad’s
voice
saying
“Courtney,
Brooklyn
and
Jessie,
I
love
you
all.”
Dad
returned
home
after
a
year,
but
he
lost
his
life
in
the
line
of
duty
stateside(在美国),
while
he
was
working
in
law
enforcement
in
2006.
Brooklyn’s
mom
told
this
tragic
story
in
a
post
on
her
Face
book
page
when
she
told
the
world
that
Toby
the
teddy
bear
had
gone
missing.
Mom
said
the
toy
had
been
a
source
of
comfort
to
the
6-year-old
Brooklyn
when
she
lost
her
dad.
Toby
didn’t
get
lost
just
anywhere
though.
This
special
bear
had
an
adventure
at
Disney.
According
to
the
Disney
Parks
Blog,
a
now
14-year-old
Brooklyn
had
just
competed
in
the
Disney
Family
Fun
5K
and
Mickey
Mile,
in
January.
When
she
got
home,
she
realized
she
had
left
him
behind
and
was
very
worried.
Marsha
then
posted
her
plea(请求)
for
help
to
find
the
bear,
which
went
to
a
few
more
people
than
her
closest
friends
and
family.
The
message
reached
Disney’s
Saratoga
Springs
Resort
&
Spa
General
Manager
Sonya
Dees-Byrnes,
who
(as
any
good
Disney
magic-maker
does)
helped
find
Toby.
So,
Brooklyn
got
her
bear
back—along
with
cute
photos
of
him
“playing”
in
the
parks
while
they
were
apart.
Mom
said
that
Brooklyn
was
excited.
She
was
jumping
up
and
down.

his
teddy
bear
when
her
father
died
A.Two
years.
B.
Three

years.
D.
Eight
years.
29.
We
can
know
from
the
passage
Brooklyn’s
father
died______
A.
when
he
was
in
Iraq.
B.
when
he
was
on
duty
in
the
US.
C.
in
the
year
2009.
D.
in
a
local
conflict.
30.

treasured
Toby
the
teddy
bear
very
much
because_____
A.

her
father’s
love.
B.
Toby

father
was

her.

31.

help.

Do
you
have
imagination
Do
you
like
to
solve
problems
If
so,
you
could
be
the
next
great
inventor(发明家).
“But
I’m
just
a
kid,”
you
might
say!
Don’t
worry
about
a
little
thing
like
age.
For
example,
one
famous
inventor

Benjamin
Franklin

got
his
start
when
he
was
only
12.
At
that
young
age,
he
created
paddles
for
his
hands
to
help
him
swim
faster.
Eventually,
his
creation
led
to
what
we
now
call
flippers!
So
you
don’t
have
to
be
an
adult
to
be
an
inventor.
One
thing
you
do
need,
though,
is
something
that
kids
have
plenty
of:
curiosity
and
imagination.
Kids
are
known
for
looking
at
things
in
new
and
unique
ways.
Jeanie
Low
invented
the
Kiddie
Stool
when
she
was
just
11.
It’s
a
folding
stool
that
fits
under
the
kitchen
sink.
Kids
can
unfold
it
and
use
it
to
reach
the
sink
all
by
themselves.
At
the
age
of
15,
Louis
Braille
invented
the
system
named
after
him
that
allows
the
blind
to
read.
Chelsea
Lannon
received
a
patent(专利)when
she
was
just
8
for
the
“pocket
diaper,”
a
new
type
of
diaper
that
includes
a
pocket
for
holding
baby
wipes
and
powder.
32.
By
saying
“But
I’m
just
a
kid”,
you
probably
mean
you____.
A.
are
too
young
to
achieve
anything.
B
can
do
anything
though
you
are
young.
C.
are
old
enough
to
become
an
inventor.
D.
have
to
learn
knowledge
from
other
people.
33.
Kids
are
most
likely
to
be
inventors
probably
because
they_____.
A.
would
like
to
make
friends
with
others.
B.
think
about
things
in
quite
different
ways.
C.
like
playing
all
kinds
of
toys
at
home.
D.
usually
work
hard
at
their
lessons
at
school.
34.
Who
invented
something
that
helps
the
blind
to
read
A.
Jeanie
Low
B.
Benjamin
Franklin
C.
Chelsea
Lannon
D.
Louis
Braille
35.
Which
of
the
following
can
be
the
main
idea
for
this
passage
A.
Kids
have
curiosity
and
imagination.
B.
There
are
some
world
famous
inventors.
C.
It
is
possible
for
kids
to
be
inventors.

Kids
are
exactly
like

way.
