第二部分
阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
(共15小题,每小题2分,满分30分。)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C、和D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
The
spread
of
Western
eating
habits
around
the
world
is
bad
for
human
health
and
the
environment.These
findings
come
from
a
new
report
in
the
journal
Nature.
David
Tilman,a
professor
of
ecology
at
the
University
of
Minnesota,America,examined
information
from
100
countries
to
identify
what
people
ate
and
how
a
diet
affected
health.He
noted
a
movement
beginning
in
the
1960s.He
found
that
as
nations
industrialized(工业化),population
increased
and
earnings
rose,more
people
began
to
adopt
what
has
been
called
the
Western
diet.
The
Western
diet
is
high
in
sugar,
fat,
oil
and
meat.
By
eating
these
foods,
people
began
to
get
fatter
and
sicker.
David
Tilman
says
overweight
people
are
at
greater
risk
for
non-infectious
diseases
like
diabetes(糖尿病)and
heart
disease.
Unfortunately
when
people
become
industrialized,
if
they
adopt
this
Western
diet,
they
are
going
to
have
these
health
problems,
especially
in
developing
countries
in
Asia.
China
is
an
example
where
the
number
of
diabetes
cases
has
been
jumping
from
less
than
one
percent
to
10
percent
of
the
population
as
they
began
to
industrialize
over
a
20-year
period.
And
that
is
happening
all
across
the
world,
in
Mexico,
in
Nigeria
and
so
on.
And,
a
diet
bad
for
human
beings,
is
also
bad
for
the
environment.
As
the
world’s
population
grows,
more
forests
and
tropical(热带的)areas
will
become
farmlands
for
crops
or
grasslands
for
cattle.
We
are
likely
to
have
more
greenhouse
gas
in
the
future
from
agriculture
than
that
coming
out
of
all
forms
of
transportation
right
now.
Mr.
Tilman
calls
the
link
between
the
diet,
the
environment
and
human
health,
“a
trilemma
”—a
problem
offering
a
difficult
choice.
He
says
one
possible
solution
is
leaving
the
Western
diet
behind.
B
Have
you
ever
seen
a
talking
parrot
on
TV
or
in
someone’s
home
Parrots
have
learned
to
copy
the
sounds
that
people
make.
But
birds
are
not
the
only
animals
that
can
copy
the
sounds
they
hear.
Dolphins,
bats,
and
some
apes
can
also
copy
sounds.
Now
researches
have
found
that
elephants
can
also
copy
the
sounds
around
them.
Dr.
Thane
is
a
zoologist.
She
has
many
researches
in
the
sounds
of
elephants.
When
she
was
in
Ohio,
she
often
heard
some
strange
noises
made
by
Malika
after
sunset.
Malika
was
a
10-year-old
African
elephant.
Malika
lived
near
a
highway.
Dr.
Thane
says,
“I
could
not
tell
the
difference
between
Malika’s
call
and
the
distant
trucks’
noise.”
She
and
other
scientists
studied
Malika’s
sounds.
It
turned
out
that
Malika
was
copying
the
sounds
of
the
trucks
going
by.
Why
would
Malika
copy
trucks
which
she
heard
going
by
on
the
highway
After
copying
the
new
sounds,
animals
may
enjoy
practicing
them.
When
they
are
kept
outside
of
their
natural
environment,
they
may
copy
unusual
sounds.
That
may
be
why
an
elephant
can
copy
the
sound
of
trucks.
“Malika
was
not
the
only
elephant
that
can
copy
other
sounds,”
Dr.
Thane
says.
Camero
is
a
24-year-old
male
African
elephant.
He
spent
15
years
with
two
female
Asian
elephants.
Asian
elephants
can
make
chirping
sounds
(sounds
made
by
birds)
to
talk
with
one
another.
African
elephants
usually
do
not
make
chirping
sounds.
But
Camero
now
does.
He
is
copying
his
Asian
elephant
friends.
Dr.
Thane
says
that
elephants
need
to
form
bonds
with
their
family
and
friends.
She
says,
“They
make
sounds
to
communicate
with
each
other.
When
they
are
separated,
they
use
sounds
to
keep
in
contact.”
The
finding
that
the
parrot,
dolphins,
humans,
and
elephants
can
learn
to
copy
other
sounds
shows
that
copying
is
one
way
that
animals
and
people
make
new
friends
and
keep
old
ones.
C
At
first
glance,
Ronny
looked
like
every
other
kid
in
the
first-grade
classroom
where
I
volunteered
as
the
Reading
Mom.
However,
he
arrived
at
school
dirty
every
morning,
and
along
with
his
outward
appearance,
Ronny
stood
apart
from
his
classmates
in
other
ways,
too.
His
home
was
a
mess
and
his
parents
never
settled
in
one
place.
He
had
yet
to
live
a
full
year
in
any
one
place.
Every
time
when
it
was
Ronny’s
turn
to
read,
he
would
sit
close
to
me.
I
watched
his
fingers
move
slowly
under
each
letter
as
he
struggled
to
sound
out
“Bud
the
Sub.”It
sounded
more
like
“Baw
Daw
Saw”
when
he
said
it
because
of
his
speech
impediment
and
his
difficulty
with
the
alphabet.
The
year
passed
quickly
and
Ronny
had
made
some
progress
but
hardly
enough
to
bring
him
up
to
grade
level.
A
few
weeks
before
the
school
year
ended,
I
held
an
award
ceremony.
It
took
me
a
while
to
figure
out
where
Ronny
fit;
I
needed
something
positive,
but
there
wasn’t
really
much.
I
finally
decided
on
“Most
Improved
Reader.”I
presented
Ronny
with
his
certificate
and
a
book.
A
few
days
later,
I
returned
to
the
school
to
visit.
I
saw
Ronny
read
the
book.
His
teacher
appeared
beside
me.“He
hasn’t
put
that
book
down
since
you
gave
it
to
him.
It’s
the
first
book
he’s
ever
actually
owned.”
Fighting
back
tears,
I
approached
Ronny
and
asked,
“Will
you
read
me
your
book,
Ronny ”He
glanced
up
and
nodded.
And
then,
for
the
next
few
minutes,
he
read
to
me
with
more
expression,
clarity,
and
ease
than
I’d
ever
thought
possible
for
him.
When
he
finished
reading,
Ronny
closed
his
book
and
said
with
great
satisfaction,
“Good
book.”
At
that
moment,
I
knew
I
would
get
serious
about
my
own
writing
career
and
do
what
that
author
had
done,
and
probably
still
does—care
enough
to
write
a
story
that
changes
a
child’s
life,
care
enough
to
make
a
difference.
I
want
to
be
that
author.
D
Hillsborough
Middle
School
in
New
Jersey
banned
energy
drinks
from
the
campus
at
the
start
of
the
summer.
Joe
Trybulski,
headmaster
of
the
school,
said
that
the
decision
wasn’t
a
difficult
one.
“Using
drinks
containing
caffeine
can
do
harm
to
your
learning,”
he
said.
Energy
drinks
like
Red
Bull
and
Spike
Shooter
are
popular
with
kids,
even
kids
as
young
as
10
or
12
because
they’re
super-sweet
and
they
give
you
a
lift.
They’re
advertised
by
sports
stars—from
famous
football
and
basketball
players
to
well-known
names
in
extreme
sports
like
snowboarding
or
skateboarding.
The
energy
drink
industry
denies
that
they
sell
directly
to
children.
They
claim
that
$2-$4
cost
per
can
makes
energy
drinks
too
expensive
for
kids,
and
they’re
aimed
at
adults.
Not
only
that,
they
say,
most
energy
drinks
have
less
caffeine
than
coffee.“Are
you
going
to
start
carding
kids
at
coffee
houses
and
candy
shops ”
asked
one
manager.“We
can’t
imagine
why
a
school
would
ban
Red
Bull
from
campus,”
says
another,
a
spokeswoman
for
Red
Bull.
To
make
a
comparison,
a
cup
of
coffee
contains
about
95
milligrams(毫克)
of
caffeine.
An
8.3
ounce
can
of
Red
Bull
contains
75
milligrams,
more
than
twice
the
amount
of
caffeine
in
a
12
ounce
can
of
Coca
Cola.
It’s
interesting
to
note
that
not
that
long
ago,
coffee
was
considered
strictly
an
adult
drink.
Times
have
changed,
and
now
researchers
say
that
there’s
‘no
clear
proof’
that
energy
drinks
and
caffeine
harm
children,
but
it’s
certain
that
caffeine
tends
to
affect
children
more
than
adults.
Too
much
caffeine
is
a
far
smaller
amount
for
a
110
pound
12
year
old
boy
than
it
is
for
a
175
pound
adult
man.
And
children,
say
health
experts,
get
into
a
harmful
cycle
with
energy
drinks
when
they
drink
them
in
the
morning
to
‘wake
up’
after
having
trouble
falling
asleep
the
night
before.

Tips
for
writing
the
college
essay
While
some
high
school
seniors
begin
to
enjoy
writing
their
college
essay,
others
fail
to
see
the
importance
of
it.36.
Creating
the
college
essay
is
supposed
to
be
a
fun,
and
exciting
task.
It
is
a
process
of
self-discovery.
Some
helpful
tips:
1.Have
fun!37.
Relax,
breathe
and
realize
that
this
is
the
time
to
expose
a
side
of
you
that
a
transcript(学生成绩单)
cannot.
2.38.
The
worst
thing
you
can
do
is
pick
and
ordinary
topic.
Stay
away
from
volunteer
work,
your
dead
dog
and
vacations.
Admission
counselors(入学辅导员)
see
thousands
of
essays
a
month;
make
sure
your
essay
is
distinct
to
your
experience
and
personality.
Do
not
focus
on
what
you
think
they
want
you
to
write,
but
what
is
actually
significant
to
you.
3.Don’t
try
to
make
yourself
a
victim.
Although
it
is
effective
to
appeal
to
the
emotions
of
an
admission
counselor,
I
do
not
recommend
writing
an
essay
about
sad
stories.
Self-pity
can
be
annoying,
and
most
admission
counselors
do
not
want
that
to
be
their
first
impression
of
you.
The
only
exception
to
this
is
if
you
have
an
inspiring
struggle
that
you
overcame.39.
4.Your
essay
is
not
a
longer
version
of
your
resume(简历).If
you
sent
in
a
resume,
there
is
absolutely
no
need
to
restate
what
is
on
it.
Many
students
like
bragging(吹嘘)
about
how
much
they
do.
It
is
amazing
that
you
are
involved,
but
admission
counselors
do
not
only
want
to
hear
about
how
much
you
do,
especially
if
they
already
see
this
on
your
resume.40.
Good
luck
on
your
college
essay!
A.
It
was
received
well
by
many.
B.
Don’t
settle
for
basic—be
creative!
C.
When
you
get
upset,
it
is
reflected
in
your
work.
D.
You
can
talk
about
how
a
work
changed
your
life.
E.
They
want
to
see
aspects
of
you
that
cannot
be
shown
on
a
resume.
F.
In
some
cases,
these
600
words
determine
an
acceptance
or
a
rejection.
G.
Make
sure
that
the
story
is
focused
on
your
growth,
not
on
the
struggle.

参考范文:
Dear
Editor,
I’m
a
senior
high
school
student.It’s
reported
that
in
China
many
children
in
mountainous
areas
still
can’t
go
to
school
because
of
poverty.
Last
week,
our
class
held
a
discussion
about
how
to
help
them
to
go
to
school
and
live
a
happy
childhood.
Here
are
our
suggestions.
First,
some
old
textbooks
and
clothes
can
be
collected
and
sent
to
those
children
so
that
they
can
be
reused
by
them.
Second,
it’s
also
very
important
to
appeal
to
more
people
and
social
organizations
to
help
and
care
for
those
poor
children.
As
far
as
I’m
concerned,
we
should
save
some
of
our
pocket
money
and
give
it
to
those
children
in
need.
Above
all,
we
should
give
them
respect,
never
looking
down
upon
them
because
they
are
poor.
We’ll
really
appreciate
it
if
you
can,through
the
English
Weekly,increase
public
awareness
of
the
poor
children’s
living
conditions
and
call
on
more
people
to
help
them.
Yours
sincerely,
Li
