Dear Tom,
Delighted to learn that you’re passionate about Chinese literature, I’d like to recommend “The Dream of the Red Chamber”, one of China’s Four Great Classical Novels.
This masterpiece, written by Cao Xueqin in the 18th century, depicts the rise and fall of the wealthy and powerful Jia family, along with the tragic love story between Jia Baoyu and Lin Daiyu, which not only presents vivid characters and complicated relationships but also reflects the social customs, culture, and philosophy of ancient China. As a must-read classical work, I recommend it because it offers profound insights into Chinese traditions, such as Confucianism, Taoism, and family values. In addition, the poetic language and rich symbolism make it a treasure of Chinese literature. Since you enjoy deep cultural exploration, I believe you’ll find it fascinating!
Hope you’ll like it! Feel free to ask me any questions while reading.
Best regards,
Li Hua

Make Better Use of Digital Reading
Good morning, everyone!
As digital devices reshape our reading habits, I’d like to share some insights concerning how to maximize their potential while minimizing drawbacks.
It is evident that digital platforms grant instant access to vast resources searchable with a few taps and offer interactive features like vocabulary lookup and audio support enhancing comprehension significantly. However, challenges do exist. Prolonged screen exposure causes eye stress, the "skimming" tendency in digital reading may weaken deep analytical skills and distractions on account of using digital devices come as the primary concern. To optimize digital reading, I propose taking a break every 20 minutes to reduce eye strain, adopting specific reading apps like Forest to block distractions, and switching to print material for complex reading tasks.
Digital reading isn’t inherently good or bad --- it’s how we use it that matters. Let’s harness its power wisely for academic success!
Thanks for listening.
Happy Reading, Happy Sharing
Last Friday witnessed a book-sharing event titled “Happy Reading, Happy Sharing”, which proved to be an intellectual feast for all participants.
To commence with, five outstanding presenters from different grades shared insightful reviews of their favorite books, ranging from timeless classics to contemporary works. Afterward, during the discussion sessions, we explored different interpretations of the same stories, which greatly deepened our understanding. Eventually came the climax where we exchanged books --- each copy contained the previous reader's personal notes, making the reading experience more unique as the books traveled from hand to hand.
Through this rewarding event, I discovered how one’s insights into each book transformed simple reading into a heartfelt conversation across time and space and how one story could inspire countless perspectives, making literature a bridge between minds.

Dear Jim,
Hearing that you’re working on a research project about efficient reading in the information age, I’d love to share my perspective on this topic.
The digital era has significantly transformed reading habits. Digital platforms grant instant access to vast resources searchable with a few taps and offer interactive and practical features like vocabulary lookup and audio support while they pose challenges as well, such as prolonged screen exposure, shortened attention spans and constant distractions. As digital reading is an inevitable trend, I have adopted a balanced approach: using digital materials for leisure reading and information acquisition and relying on print media for complex comprehension and information analysis. I’m convinced that it’ll assist me to navigate the sea of information effectively while maintaining depth in learning.
I’d be happy to discuss more details if you’re interested. Looking forward to hearing about your project findings!
Best regards,
Li Hua
