Different people celebrate the New Year in different ways. Here are some special and fun New Year traditions from around the world.

China
On Chinese New Year’s Day, the whole family gets together for a reunion dinner. The elders give the children lucky money, wishing them safety and health.
Thailand
Thai people call their new year Songkran. It is on the 13th of April. This is one of the hottest months in Thailand! People celebrate the New Year with street parties and even giant water fights.
Spain
When the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve, the Spanish eat 12 grapes, one for each month of the year. Eating all 12 grapes is believed to bring good luck.
Ecuador
Some people walk around the block with an empty suitcase on New Year's Eve. This shows that the next year will be full of adventures.
