In this lesson, we will be able to:
Master and use key vocabulary related to self-introduction, such as “unique” “advantage”, and phrases like “be strict with oneself”, and understand sentence structures used in Gloria’s self-introduction and description of her basketball experience.
Improve our reading skills by understanding the main idea and details of the passage about Gloria’s story. We will also enhance our writing ability by completing the given paragraph and writing true or false answers based on the reading content.
Aware of cultural differences through Gloria’s background as a Greek student in a different school environment, and understand how cultural origin can be part of one’s uniqueness.

Hello everyone! I’m Gloria. I’m in Grade 8.
What makes me unique My family comes from Greece. I was born there. Nobody else in my school comes from Greece! I am a basketball player on the school team and the only player in my class.
Playing basketball is my interest. When I was in Grade 6, I played for the school basketball team. I was the youngest player. I knew I was not tall or strong enough. I had no advantages over other players. But I was strict with myself. I practiced shooting more than 100 times every day to improve my abilities. Gradually, I became the best shooter on the team.
Once we played against a team from another city. The game was almost over, and the score was fifty-one to fifty-one. A player on my team passed me the ball. I was too far from the basket. Could I get the ball in the net I tried, and the ball went in! The final score was fifty-four to fifty-one.We won! We felt proud of ourselves.
My dream is to play basketball in the Olympics.I’d like to go to university too. My parents want me to study medicine, but I want to continue with physical education. What sport would I study Basketball, of course!
