Learning objectives
In this lesson, we will be able to:
Able to master the use of conjunctions “and, but, or, so” to form compound-sentences, and understand related vocabulary and expressions about Beijing opera and self- confidence, such as “Beijing opera” “believe in oneself”.
Through listening to the passage, we can improve our listening comprehension ability, especially the ability to catch key information and fill in the blanks. By reading the passage, we can enhance reading skills like sequencing sentences and understanding the text’s main idea. In group work, our speaking skills will be developed as we create sentences using conjunctions.
Better understanding of Beijing opera, a traditional Chinese art form, and its cultural significance, which helps to cultivate our cultural confidence and cross-cultural communication awareness in line with the new curriculum standards.

My name is Lin Lin, and I really enjoy singing Beijing opera. When I was a little girl, I heard my grandpa sing it and I liked it a lot. He was happy to teach me, and we often sang together. From then on, I started dreaming of becoming an opera singer.
Last year, our school organised a talent show. I wanted to sing, but I didn’t feel confident. I was nervous about singing in front of all my classmates.
