Mr. Wu is showing his classmates how to make pressed flowers (押花).
Start here
Step 1: Carefully pick a few flowers in a place where you are allowed. Do not take too many! Pick them later in the day and when the weather is fine so they’re not wet from the rain.
Step 2: Open a heavy book and lay a piece of blotting paper (吸水纸) inside. Place your flowers “face” down to keep the petals (花瓣) nice and flat. You could press some “sideways” for a different result. Then place another piece of blotting paper on top.
Step 3: Carefully close the book and place more heavy books on top. Put them in a warm place. Check on your flowers every few days and change the blotting paper if it’s wet. It should take about 2-4 weeks for your flowers to fully dry.
Pressed Flower Works
Once they’re dry, you can make some amazing art from your flowers. PVA glue is the best thing to stick them with.

The Chinese pingfeng (folding screen) is an ancient invention and traditional Chinese furniture. Its earliest common use dates from the Han Dynasty. The term pingfeng means protection from wind, showing its purpose at the very beginning.

When an admirer paid a visit however, she might take a secret look at him from a screen behind which she would be completely hidden. Her father would discuss poems with the young man and ask him to create one. If the daughter and her father were satisfied with the young man’s poem and his looks, she might agree to take him as a husband.
