It was a September day, and as usual, the halls of Pine High School were filled with excitement. Students of all grades were rushing around. But for one student, today was unlike any other day. Today was the first day of high school for a freshman, Jamie. Jamie had always been a bit of a shy kid, but she had always loved her studies. She made up her mind to make the most of her high school years, but she knew that it wouldn’t be easy.
As she walked down the hallways, Jamie couldn’t help but feel worried. The older students seemed so confident, while she felt small and unimportant. But Jamie was determined to succeed, no matter what challenges came her way.
It wasn’t long before Jamie was faced with a challenge. In her first week of school, she was assigned (分派) a project that required a lot of research and planning. Jamie tried her best, but she soon realized that she was in over her head (力不从心). As she struggled to complete the project, Jamie began to doubt (怀疑) herself. She wondered if she was cut out for high school. But then, something great happened.
Jamie’s classmates began to notice how hard she was working, and they started to offer her help and support. They gave her advice on how to manage her time better, and they shared their tips for getting through assignments. With their help, Jamie was able to complete the project on time and with great success.
From that day on, Jamie realized that high school was not a challenge to be faced alone. With the help and support of her classmates, she was able to deal with any difficulty that came her way. And as she grew more confident in herself and her abilities, she knew that she was destined (注定) for great things.

I don’t remember a time in my life when I didn’t have Laura.
Our houses were down the road from each other. From my earliest memory, I would walk the path to hers, and she would walk it to mine. If we timed it right, we’d meet somewhere in the middle. We didn’t have cell phones back then, and I don’t remember calling each other much on the house phones either. We’d just show up.
Most of my childhood memories are with Laura. We wrote secret notes and left them in trees to rediscover later and we’d name fishes at the pond. Occasionally we would disagree, and one of us would walk home, but we’d always show up again a few hours later. The beauty of childhood friendships, of course, is that we are completely ourselves in them. I didn’t need to dress a certain way for Laura; she didn’t need to agree on everything. If one of us was tired, we would say so. If one of us didn’t feel like talking for a while, we didn’t. It was all quite simple.
As adults, friendships can be more complicated than they were in childhood. We have to consider how our words and behaviors affect others. If you are an over-thinker like me, an evening of socializing might end with a series of thoughts: Should I have said that Did I take that the wrong way Why didn’t I say that differently Those thoughts, although necessary at times, can also be tiring.
If I take a step back and learn from my friendship with Laura, I can remind myself that friendships are not about being perfect but about being real. There’s something magical about those childhood friendships. There is something special about them that is beyond just nostalgia (怀旧). Perhaps that something is the truthfulness of it.
28. What is the key to her friendship with Laura according to the author
A. Being themselves. B. Agreeing on everything.
C. Sharing similar interests. D. Communicating regularly.
29. What does the author think of adult friendships
A. They are long-lasting. B. They can lead to overthinking.
C. They are more realistic. D. They can bring new thoughts.
30. What does the author imply in the last paragraph
A. Childhood friendships are worth remembering.
B. Being real plays an important role in friendships.
C. Nostalgia adds to the magic of childhood friendships.
D. Friendships are only meaningful when they are perfect.
31. What is the text mainly about
A. What we can learn from childhood friendships.
B. Friendship matters for both children and adults.
C. How childhood friendships develop into adult ones.
D. The differences between childhood and adult friendships.
D
Language lets us share our feelings, make connections, and even hand down family traditions like recipes and songs from generation to generation. But what about family members who don’t speak the same language
A “mother language” is defined as the first language that a child learns at home. So you’d think that means your mother language is by default your strongest, most comfortable language, right Wrong. While you might think learning a language is like riding a bicycle, something you never forget how to do, it’s easy to lose language fluency without practice.
Studies show that people who learn a heritage language (that is, one connected to their family history, whether they grew up speaking it or not) experience improved self-esteem (自尊) and safety in their identities (身份). Researchers also mention that reconnecting with and understanding the family history and community is the driving force behind heritage language learning.
Relearning a mother language or trying out a heritage language as a beginner might feel overwhelming at first, but the results can be incredibly rewarding. Jenny Liao’s article, Forgetting My First Language, details how her Cantonese slowly became rusty (荒疏的) after years of living away from home. Eventually, weekly phone calls with her parents only became possible through translation apps. The inability to communicate fluently had made their relationship shallow. Resolving to close these gaps, Liao threw herself into practicing Cantonese. She forced herself into uncomfortable Cantonese conversations whenever possible in stores and restaurants. Before long, she found she could have deeper conversations with her parents. Their relationship grew closer, even though her Cantonese only improved moderately. It’s a demonstration of the impressive power of language to bring families together.
Learning or relearning a heritage language can sound pretty intimidating at first. But the hard work invested proves to be rewarding and worthwhile. What could be a stronger personal connection than the connection with family heritage
32. What is the author’s attitude to the thought “mother language is the strongest”
A. Uncaring. B. Supportive. C. Concerned. D. Opposite.
33. What is the advantage of learning a heritage language according to studies
A. Improved job skills. B. Heightened sense of belonging.
C. Sharpened communication skills. D. Broadened understanding of different opinions.
34. How is paragraph 4 developed
A. By analyzing the cause. B. By offering an example.
C. By making a comparison. D. By explaining the data.
35. Which can replace the underlined word “intimidating” in the last paragraph
A. Confusing. B. Surprising. C. Frightening. D. Relaxing.

“I was just curious about that. I don’t want any,” she said before walking away. Justin noticed she sat alone on a chair across from his stand. She kept looking in his direction, and he realized the old woman wanted a hot dog but couldn’t afford one. So he quickly made one and brought it to her. “I forgot to tell you that you’re our 50th customer of the day, so you can get a free hot dog!” he said smilingly.
“Oh, is that so ” the old lady asked. “Thank you. I’m Emily.” She tasted it and was shocked at how delicious it was. “It’s different from traditional hot dogs,” she said with joy. Justin replied, “I love cooking, so I keep trying different things with my food. I’m glad you like it! Have a wonderful day.” Then he hurried away.
The next day, when Emily returned to the park, Justin treated her to a hot dog again. Emily refused because she didn’t have money, but he insisted (坚持). “I am so happy that someone is trying my food, Emily. Your opinion matters to me,” Justin said. Though Emily was thankful for his offer, she told Justin it wasn’t necessary. But he kept doing that every day. Later when they chatted, Emily learned that Justin dreamed of expanding (扩大) his business and opening a cafe.
One day, Emily said to Justin, “I kept a count of the hot dogs you brought me, and you’ve already spent $ 100 on me. Now it’s my turn to help you, boy. After her husband died, Emily was in poor health and there was nobody to look after the cafe, so it closed down.

【原文】Hello. This is FM 98.6. It’s been another warm and fine day for most of us. Temperatures in southeast England reached 26℃ by mid-afternoon, and Brighton had fifteen hours of lovely sunshine. But the weather is already beginning to change, I’m afraid, and during the night showers will slowly move in from the Atlantic and reach southwest England by early morning. The rest of the country will have a very mild, dry night with temperatures no lower than fifteen degrees in the south, a little cooler — eleven degrees or so — in the north. And now, let’s move on to the weather forecast for Friday and the weekend. Well, southern Europe will once again get the best of the weekend weather. Scotland and Northern Ireland will have heavy rain for much of the weekend and temperatures will drop to seventeen degrees. Across most of England the weather will be cloudy but mainly dry with sunny periods. And when the sun does come out, temperatures could rise up to twenty-three degrees.

【答案】28. A 29. B 30. B 31. A

D. Relaxing.
【答案】32. D 33. B 34. B 35. C

It was a busy day for 20 year old Justin. His hot dog stand (货摊) in the park was crowded with customers. Suddenly, an old woman asked how much a hot dog was. “It depends on what you want, ma’ am. They cost from $3 to $7,” he replied.
Come with me.” Emily led Justin to an old building that looked like a deserted cafe. She explained that her husband owned it. After her husband died, Emily was in poor health and there was nobody to look after the cafe, so it closed down.
注意:续写词数应为150左右。
“It’s now yours, Justin. This is your cafe,” Emily said.

【答案】“It’s now yours, Justin. This is your cafe,” Emily said. Justin looked at her with doubt. “My cafe What do you mean ” he asked. “This house carries many beautiful memories, so I don’t want to sell it. I feel lucky to have met you. You are a kind kid and you deserve it,” Emily replied smilingly. She believed Justin would make good use of the house. Justin had tears in his eyes when he understood Emily’s words. He thanked Emily repeatedly for making his dream come true.
Over the next few weeks, Justin worked tirelessly to fix up the old cafe. Then he added his hot dogs to the menu and also used his creativity to experiment with other dishes. Business was slow in the beginning, but finally, word spread about the cafe. A lot of customers who used to love the cafe started showing up every day. They were moved by the story of Emily and Justin. Emily was also proud of what Justin had achieved. Gradually, the cafe became a symbol of hope and kindness in the community.

D. Relaxing.
