Conducting fluent roleplays with correct pronunciation and intonation.
三、Teaching Procedures
Step 1: Warmingup & Leadin (5 mins)
1. Show pictures of jobs (athlete, painter, photographer, businessman) from the courseware. Ask: "What do you think their jobs are " to teach new vocabulary with pronunciations ([ θli t], [f t ɡr f (r)]).
2. Review the previous target sentences: "What do you want to be when you grow up " "I’m going to..." and invite 2 students to share briefly.
Step 2: Listening Practice (10 mins)
2a: Listen and Fill in the Blanks
Ask students to read the conversation outline in 2a first. Play the recording twice and let them fill in the blanks (Key: Chinese writer, plan, stories and essays, be a doctor).
Check answers together and explain new phrases like "a book of essays" and "classics".
2b: Read and Judge True/False
Provide the complete conversation. Let students read it silently and judge the 5 statements (Key: 1.F, 2.T, 3.F, 4.T, 5.T).
Explain the reasons for false statements (e.g., "It’s a book of essays, not a novel") to deepen understanding.
Step 3: Language Points & Roleplay (15 mins)
Language Points Explanation
Highlight key structures:
"by" (used for authors: a book by...).
"be good at doing sth", "plan to do sth", "keep on doing sth".
Object clauses (e.g., "Not everyone knows what they want to be") and attributive clauses (e.g., "anything you want").
Give simple examples to help students understand (e.g., "She is good at playing the piano" "I plan to visit my grandma this weekend").
2c: Roleplay the Conversation
Divide students into pairs. Ask them to practice the 2a conversation, paying attention to pronunciation and intonation.
Walk around to guide and correct. Invite 23 pairs to perform in class and give feedback.
Step 4: Speaking Practice (10 mins)
Group Work (2d)
Provide 4 jobs (athlete, painter, photographer, businessman) with sample responses.
Ask students to work in groups of 34, using the model: "A: What do you want to be when you grow up B: I want to be... A: How are you going to do that B: I’m going to...".
Let students interview classmates about their own dream jobs, fill in the table (Name → What → How), and share 12 interesting plans with the class.
Step 5: Summary (3 mins)
Review new vocabulary, key phrases, and sentence structures.
Emphasize: "Clear dreams + practical plans = success" to strengthen the emotional objective.
Step 6: Homework (2 mins)
1. Required: Copy and recite the 2a conversation; finish afterclass exercises.
2. Optional: Roleplay the conversation with a partner, imitate the pronunciation and intonation, and record an audio or video.
